Settling the body and mind into this moment.
Lying down comfortably if you can,
Or sitting with support.
Your spine is straight,
Chin tucked in slightly,
Hands curled open.
Taking a few deep and slow breaths to centre.
Gently inhaling through the nostrils,
Sending air all the way to the bottom of the belly,
Which expands,
Rises,
Then contracts as you gently exhale through the lips.
Repeat two more times.
Allow your breathing to return to its natural rhythm.
Feeling more and more relaxed with each natural breath.
In your mind's eye,
Imagine a staircase,
Of which you stand at the top.
In a moment when I count down from 10 to 1,
You are going to see,
Hear and feel your foot hit first the 10th step,
Making your way now down to the 9th step.
See,
Hear and feel your foot touch the 8th step now,
Becoming more and more relaxed as you go down to the 7th step.
Then the 6th step.
Halfway down now to the 5th step,
Feeling more and more deeply relaxed.
See,
Hear and feel your foot hit the 4th step,
Then the 3rd,
Then the 2nd,
And finally the bottom step.
Note how deeply relaxed you feel in this moment.
Continue to walk slowly and steadily up a path that appears in front of you.
Noticing now there in front of you is your first family home,
The first house you grew up in.
Notice how you feel as you get closer and closer to this house.
See,
Hear and feel your foot hit the path heading up toward the house.
Allowing those first early memories to return now.
You might become aware of familiar scents from the garden and the surroundings of the house.
Be open to any sounds which may return to you from this moment in time.
Keep making your way closer and closer to the house,
Noting any feelings which may arise as you do so.
Now up close to the house,
Imagine that you can see inside the house.
Looking through the window or the door,
See your mother.
What is she doing?
See your father if he's there.
Your brothers and sisters if you had any.
And just imagine you can also see a little child,
The little child you once were.
Really take a good look at them now.
What are they wearing?
Observe their hair,
Their face,
The expression on their face,
Their eyes.
As you enter into the house,
You go over to this little child and you tell them,
I'm the one who wrote you the letter.
I want you to come home with me.
I know you better than anyone else in this whole world,
And I want to be your champion.
I want to show you how life can be.
I want you to come home with me now.
I know more than anybody what you've been going through,
And I love you just the way you are.
I want you to come with me now if you're willing,
And you can pack a little bag and bring your special pet or toy if you have one.
Go and get your little bag now.
And when they return,
You're going to offer them your hand,
And they might lead you to actually pick them up and carry them out the door in this moment.
The child is then going to look at their mum and dad and tell them that they have to leave now.
The child might need your help to express that they have to go now,
That they have to get out of this situation and never return.
Help them to say,
I have to leave now.
I have to have a life of my own.
I know you did the best you could,
Or you were sick or unable to cope,
But I need to leave now.
See the child,
An adult version,
Waving goodbye as they walk away from the house now.
Keep walking.
You can look back and you can wave one last time now.
As your family members appear smaller and smaller,
And now you look ahead,
And as the road turns,
You hold that little child's hand tight,
And you tell them that we are going to start over now.
And as you're walking around that bend in the road,
You can see someone ahead,
Someone calling for you,
Someone you love.
Or maybe it's the higher power that caused you now.
I'm here for you.
Keep coming.
You're going to make it.
You're almost there.
You show your loved one,
You show this divine power,
This beautiful little child,
And they wrap you both in their arms and cover you in light and love that cascades over you now.
It's okay to cry right now.
It's okay to be scared or angry or even a little numb.
Just allow your child to feel what they feel without judgment and with the most beautiful unconditional love.
Welcome to the world,
My little loved one.
You are free to be exactly who you are now.
I see you.
I hear you.
We are going to have so much fun together.
I love you just the way you are.
Now just imagine you take that child,
You scoop them up with your big wide embrace,
You put them in your heart now,
You hug yourself tight as this little child emerges and aligns with your inner heart space.
They are as close to you as the air you breathe.
You feel their feelings,
You sense their needs,
Their worries and their desires.
You recognize how safe you feel now through this connection.
This is a homecoming.
You have arrived.
You know this child is never going to be alone again from this moment forward.
They're never going to feel forgotten or ashamed,
Never going to feel alone or abandoned,
Fearful or misunderstood.
With each and every natural breath you draw that recognition closer to you,
That little child within you so safe and secure now to be just who they are in the world,
To recognize their own beauty and light,
To live with security and confidence in who they are every step of the way for the rest of your days.
Notice the feeling,
Sensation or emotion that you're left with in this moment.
In a moment you're going to see that staircase in front of you.
This time you're at the bottom of the stairs and as I count from 10 to 1,
You're going to climb up those stairs,
See,
Hear and feel your foot hit that bottom step now and up to the ninth step and the eighth,
Carrying that beautiful little child in your heart to the seventh step and the sixth.
Halfway up now,
Feeling more and more alert.
See,
Hear and feel your foot hit the fourth step and the third and the second and the first,
Reaching the top stairs reaching the top stairs.
Recognize that feeling in your heart continues to radiate,
Continue to be open to it,
It's coming with you.
Become aware of the light coming in through your eyelids as you might like to wiggle your toes and fingers.
If you're on your back,
You might like to turn on your side for a moment and when you're ready,
Gently opening those beautiful eyes to a brand new day.
