Grounding Exercise To Restore Calm

In this exercise, I guide you through a meditation to ground you to the earth and focus your energy back inwards. This will help restore balance, calm, focus, and strength. This guide is part of a series that I have designed to support you through challenging times. Listen as part of your morning ritual or anytime during the day if you need to stop and recenter.

Hi there,

This is Jo Hatcher.

When the world is crazy with so many unknowns,

We can just get caught up in the craziness and the uncertainty that's all around us.

We can become out of balance,

And this affects our nervous system on a deep level.

So I want to give you a tool to ground yourself so that you can feel more centered and able to go through your day without feeling like you're coming apart or that you feel like you can't quite get yourself organized.

I invite you to take this time for yourself as you listen to this recording.

This may be the only moment in your day when it's just for you.

Choose a place now that is quiet and peaceful.

Let your body feel really comfortable.

Uncross your legs and have both feet on the floor,

Or if you wish,

You can lie down while you listen to my voice.

Close your eyes and begin by noticing your breathing.

As you sense your chest rising and falling,

Just see if you can take a little bit slower,

Deeper breath.

Now I want you to imagine a grounding cord around your waist that goes all the way down to the center of the earth.

Your grounding cord can be made out of anything.

It can be a rope,

Or it can be a beautiful cloth.

It can be a tree stump that goes all the way down deep into the center of the earth,

Spreading its roots deep into the earth.

Or perhaps you'd like to imagine your grounding cord as a waterfall that flows from your waist deep down to the earth.

Whichever grounding cord you choose,

Just notice the color of your grounding cord.

And trust that your grounding cord goes deep,

Deep into the earth,

Helping you feel the power of the earth.

As we know,

The earth is solid and secure,

Stable.

Allow yourself to feel the power of just being connected to Mother Earth.

Now I want you to imagine what I call a golden sun above your head,

About six inches.

It would be about the size of a beach ball.

And this represents your energy.

Right now,

I imagine that you have your energy out in a number of places.

Maybe you're thinking about the state of the world and worried what will happen.

Or maybe you're thinking about all the things you have to do.

Or maybe you're concerned about someone else,

Or even what you're going to have for dinner.

Right now,

I want you to be able to collect up all that energy and let it go into the golden sun.

The golden sun will take it all in and then it will go down through your body,

Right down through the grounding cord into the center of the earth.

This won't hurt anyone or anything,

And you can have these thoughts back at any time.

And for right now,

I want you to have this time to be just you without all these other energies in your head.

As I'm talking,

Your golden sun is collecting the energy that you have out everywhere.

You don't have to force it to do this job.

Just know that the golden sun is working for you so that you can just be you without all the other worries,

Concerns,

And thoughts that aren't really you.

Now,

Be in the very center of your head.

Notice what it's like now without everyone else's energy there.

And if there are thoughts that pop up as I'm talking,

Just direct them to the golden sun,

Which will send the thoughts right down through your grounding cord.

Again,

Notice what this is like to be in the center of your head now without anyone else,

Just yourself.

It might be dark and silent.

It might have windows with bright,

Shining light.

And you can decorate it any way you'd like.

Imagine being in the center of your head as if it's your room.

I like to imagine mine as having windows 360 degrees around so that I can have a full view of a beautiful blue ocean with a white sandy beach.

Perhaps you want to just stand or sit in the center of your head.

Whatever you choose,

Make it peaceful with just you as the only person in your head.

Take a moment now to feel the stillness and peace.

There's nothing to do but just be here with yourself.

Here is the place which is just you with only your energy.

This is the place where you're more able to make decisions or think more clearly or even problem solve.

When we're stressed out with a million other things in our head,

We're not able to be present in the present moment.

This is different.

This being in the center of your head without distractions is the real you,

Your best self,

The self that can think clearly.

It's the wise,

Pure part of ourselves.

So enjoy this time and savor it.

And when you're ready,

I want you to open your eyes,

Coming back into your space with just yourself.

Look around.

Notice what you see and know that this is one of the best ways when you're feeling scattered and uncertain or paralyzed and being able to move forward.

This is the best way to change all of that.

The world needs us all to be balanced now and not swept up in the madness.

When you're calm,

Others around you will be calm as well.

It's a good idea to do this grounding every day or anytime you feel like you're out of kilter or anxious or not balanced.

Come back to yourself now.

I wish you good luck with this grounding exercise and enjoy your day living in a different way with just your beautiful self.
