This is a guided imagery meditation from Yogananda's Kriya Yoga tradition. We watch the mind while imagining the full moon shines at the back of the head. This deeply calming, quieting and stilling practice has been one of Karina's personal favorites for 25 years. Royalty Free Music by Dream-Protocol from Pixabay

For this meditation,

You'll want to sit with your spine tall in a space that is free of distractions.

So take a moment to make any final adjustments so that you are as comfortable as you can possibly be.

Maybe rest the palms on the thighs and float the roof of the mouth right over the base of the spine.

Become aware of your body and the space occupied by your body.

Move your awareness to the region of the head,

The forehead,

Back of the head.

And now the space of the mind.

Imagine that the mind is a lake.

When thoughts enter the mind,

It creates ripples on the lake.

Little thought waves or vrittis.

But when the mind is quiet,

The lake is still.

Take a moment to just observe the lake of the mind.

Watching how thoughts create ripples on the surface of the lake.

Maybe resting in moments where the lake is perfectly calm and the surface is like a mirrored reflection of the sky.

Now imagine that the full moon is shining right at the back of the head.

Radiant,

Luminous full moon located at the point called Bindu Visarga.

The heavenly drop point right at the back of the head.

And the full moon is shining down onto the lake of the mind.

Again,

When thoughts are present and creating those waves or ripples on the surface of the lake,

What we see is the reflection of the moon in a thousand little pieces.

Fragments of the one true reality,

But not the one true reality.

But when the lake is still and the mind is quiet,

Perfect mirrored image of that full moon can shine onto the lake of the mind.

The perfect reflection of the one true reality,

The one true moon.

The mind is quiet long enough and the lake is still.

Full moon at the back of the head can shine a moonbeam onto that mirrored reflection of the lake of the mind.

And then reflect the moonbeam off the surface of the lake,

Out through the point between the eyebrows.

When the surface of the lake is still,

Full moon can shine a moonbeam from the back of the head onto the surface of the lake,

Which bounces off and reflects out through the point between the eyebrows.

When this feels complete for you,

You can take some slower,

Deeper breaths.

Maybe bring the palms together at the heart and lower the chin.

And slowly bring your awareness back to the room.

Appreciate your simple, non-flowery voice. Loved the image of the reflection of a still lake in my mind. Gratitude!
