So this is an open-eyed meditation.
Begin by just sinking into wherever you are,
Feeling what is holding you up in this moment,
Feeling the support of furniture or floor,
Chair or bed and beneath that the support of the earth and really letting it into the body.
And in this moment you're completely held up.
There's nothing to do or figure out.
You get to just be.
And letting your eyes roam over the scene in front of you,
Wherever you are,
And letting them settle on something that draws you.
You don't need to know why.
Something that brings pleasure,
Maybe through color or texture,
And letting the eyes settle there,
Really soaking it up.
Simone Weil said that prayer is absolute unmixed attention and we want to bring that quality of attention to what we're seeing.
As we soak it in,
Noticing where in the body resonates.
Where in the body do we feel ease or perhaps a sense of energy or pleasure.
Letting the attention move between the object you're looking at and the body.
You can do this as long as you'd like,
Just settling in to what feels good.
This is wise practice and this is excellent neuroscience too.
When you're ready,
Letting the eyes linger somewhere else.
Wonder and find something that they like and settle there.
No need to know why,
Just taking in what is good.
Staying there as long as you'd like and then moving on to whatever draws the eye next.
Moving between the visual sense and the place of ease or pleasure in the body.
Really letting the attention dwell in pleasure.
