What would it be like to be more like water,
To trust in the flow of life?
What would it be like to relax the shoulders,
Release the knot in the stomach?
What would it be like to stop pushing,
Trying,
Striving so hard?
What would it be like to surrender just a little,
And a little bit more?
What would it be like to see what happens?
What would it be like to be open to how things might turn out,
Or might not turn out?
Sometimes we set a goal either explicitly out loud or in our minds,
And then we come up with a plan,
A strategy,
A set of actions that are going to support us to achieve that goal.
And sometimes it comes,
Sometimes it does flow.
Sometimes the first step leads to the second step,
To the third,
And so on.
And sometimes we do achieve the goals we set for ourselves.
And other times we knock on a door,
It remains closed.
We knock on another door,
It's opened slightly and then slammed in our face.
We receive a rejection,
A disappointment,
And we keep going because we have a goal,
There's something we want to achieve,
Something we want to attain,
And we grow frustrated and despondent and drained.
Perhaps that's just not the way the water was supposed to flow.
Perhaps there's a way of,
Yes,
Having aspirations,
Dreams and goals,
And yes,
Being explicit and open with ourselves about what they are,
And yes,
Using our wisdom and experience and resources to come up with a plan.
But actually being flexible and malleable and like water,
Perhaps if we come up to one dam,
One blockage,
We go left,
Right,
Above,
Below,
Instead of continuing to try and get through the dam,
Try and get through the blockage.
Perhaps we accept that maybe the water needs to flow in a different direction.
Finding a comfortable position.
Perhaps taking two or three deep breaths to arrive fully.
Allow yourself to be here in this moment.
You're safe.
Perhaps bringing to mind a situation,
Something fairly recent,
Maybe something that's happened in the last couple of weeks or months,
Where things flowed.
Things happened in a way that felt natural,
That felt somehow easy.
That's not to say that no work was required on your part,
But it worked,
It flowed.
You were in tune with what was happening and what was happening was in tune with you.
Pausing for a moment to see how you feel.
How does it make you feel to recall a time,
A scenario,
Where things flowed for you?
Not passive,
But there was a flow,
A dance,
A partnership between you,
Between us and life.
Can you trust more in the flow of life?
Can you soften,
Relax,
Bend your rules,
Expectations,
Plans just a little?
Trusting that things will happen as they should,
As they will.
Perhaps pushing,
Forcing,
Manipulating,
Stressing,
Striving,
Overdoing.
Perhaps it's exhausting,
Perhaps it bears little fruit,
And perhaps you can relax a little.
Perhaps it will all work out,
Perhaps you're not in control,
Perhaps you're not separate,
Perhaps you're supported,
Loved,
Guided.
And perhaps if you let go,
Flow,
Open,
You'll have an easier experience and perhaps things will work out.
In the way they should.
Can you be more like water?
Can you let go and trust in the flow of life?
Whatever that flow is.
May you put the bags down.
May you drop your shoulders.
May you rest your legs.
May you breathe deeply and fully into your belly.
May you experience ease.
May you touch peace.
May you trust in the flow of life.
And may you know that you are loved.
And thank you so,
So much for practicing with me today.
Thank you.
