Hello and welcome.
My name is Saad DeSimone,
And this is No Self,
No Problem Meditation.
So go ahead and settle into your meditation posture,
Either lying down or sitting up,
And I'm going to take a few moments to explain to you what we're going to do in the concept of No Self,
No Problem.
In Buddhism,
The highest teaching reveals a profound truth.
We do not exist in the ways we often believe we do.
The concept of an individual permanent self,
A fixed I that we cling to,
Is seen as the root of all suffering.
This attachment to a solid,
Unchanging identity causes us to feel disconnected,
Vulnerable,
And anxious in the face of life's inevitable changes.
No Self,
No Problem is a profound and liberating truth in Buddhism that gently invites us to release the illusion of a fixed,
Unchanging self.
Imagine yourself not as a rigid,
Separate entity,
But as a flowing river,
Constantly evolving,
Ever connected to the world around you.
When we let go of the need to protect and defend a solid I,
We find that much of our suffering begins to dissolve.
Just as a river cannot be grasped or held,
So too is the nature of the self.
When we cling to the idea of a permanent self,
We create tension,
Stress,
And dissatisfaction as we struggle to protect something that is,
In essence,
Fluid and impermanent.
In embracing this fluidity,
We open ourselves up to a life of greater freedom,
Peace,
And connection,
Allowing the beauty of existence to unfold without the weight of a self to carry.
But what if we understood that there is nothing truly permanent to hold on to?
What if we recognized that we are not static beings,
But rather a continuous flow of experiences?
This realization opens the door to a deeper freedom,
Where we see that the self is not a solid entity,
But a series of passing moments interconnected with everything else.
The idea of no self,
No problem challenges us to let go of the rigid belief in a separate self.
When we release this belief,
We find that many of our problems,
Rooted in fear and attachment,
Begin to dissolve.
Without a self to defend or protect,
We can navigate life with greater ease,
Adaptability,
And compassion.
In this meditation,
We will focus on the simple yet powerful mantra,
No self,
No problem.
By repeating this phrase,
We allow it to sink deeply into our consciousness,
Gently guiding us towards a state of acceptance and peace.
With each repetition,
We create a safe space within ourselves to explore this idea,
To become comfortable with it,
And to let it transform our experience.
As you meditate,
Let this mantra become a soothing rhythm,
Like the gentle lapping of waves on the shore.
Allow it to quiet the mind,
To calm the turbulence of daily life,
And to remind you that in the absence of a fixed self,
There is nothing to fear.
Over time,
This mantra will naturally arise in your mind during moments of stress or difficulty,
Serving as a reminder that many of the things we struggle with are not as solid as they seem.
No self,
No problem becomes more than just a phrase,
But a lived experience,
A way of moving through the world with greater ease and clarity.
No self,
No problem offers a refreshing perspective that invites us to see life as a dance of impermanence.
When we let go of the tight grip on the idea of me and mine,
We find that our struggles and fears naturally lose their hold.
This realization doesn't diminish who we are.
Rather,
It expands our sense of self to include the whole of existence.
In this expanse of awareness,
We discover a profound sense of ease and harmony,
Where life flows more effortlessly and joyfully.
This shift in perspective doesn't diminish our uniqueness.
Instead,
It reveals that our true nature is boundless,
Interwoven with everything around us.
We're not alone in our struggles or our joys.
We're part of a dynamic,
Ever-changing universe.
When we stop clinging to a fixed identity,
We allow ourselves to move with the rhythms of life,
Embracing its highs and lows with grace.
In this expanse of awareness,
We discover that the problems we once held so tightly lose their weight.
They are no longer personal burdens,
But passing moments in the larger flow of existence.
No self,
No problem becomes an invitation to live with greater freedom,
Creativity,
And compassion,
Recognizing that our true essence is as fluid and interconnected as the world around us.
We become part of the cosmic dance,
Moving in harmony with all of life,
Unburdened by the need to be anything other than what we truly are,
An ever-changing,
Ever-connected expression of the universe.
So let's take a moment now to refresh your meditation posture,
Take a few long,
Deep breaths.
One more.
And one more.
And now gathering all the energy of your mind,
And rest on the silent repetition of the mantra,
No self,
No problem.
And remember,
Distractions will arise,
Feelings,
Emotions,
Sensations,
Thoughts about the future,
The past,
Fantasies.
Notice that you have become carried away,
And come back and start repeating the mantra again and again,
Effortlessly,
Gently.
No self,
No problem.
No self,
No problem.
No self,
No problem.
If you've left the present moment,
And you've gotten distracted away from the mantra and just come back,
Begin again.
No self,
No problem.
Name a rhythm that feels most authentic to you.
Mine has wondered.
It's natural.
No self,
No problem.
And as we begin to bring this practice into a close,
I just want to say,
Good job.
Really well done.
And come back again tomorrow.
This mantra will slowly start to take root in your consciousness.
So even in moments of challenge,
It arises naturally,
Reminding you of the path.
No self,
No problem Becomes not just a practice,
But a way of being.
A return to your true nature.
Carry with you the essence of this mantra.
Let it echo in your heart and mind.
A constant reminder that the path is not one of clinging to the self,
But of releasing,
Of trusting,
Of embracing the truth that without a self,
There is no problem.
