Hello,
My name is Shannon Algeo.
Welcome back to Insight Timer.
This practice is called the long exhale and we are going to take 10 long exhales together to calm after those cortisol spikes that can come from the hyper-stimulation of digital anxiety.
We are all experiencing floods of noise,
Streams of images,
Clips of sound bites,
That can really overwhelm our nervous systems with way too much stimulation.
So let us take this moment together to practice slowing down through slowing down the exhale and calming those cortisol spikes.
Begin by,
If it's comfortable for you,
Closing your eyes.
And tuning your awareness inward to the inner.
Landscape,
The inner world.
The inner sensations.
And let's begin by taking a deep inhale together,
Inhaling through the nose.
And exhaling a slow,
Long exhale out through the mouth.
And then at the bottom of the exhale,
Notice if you can feel an emptiness,
A pause.
And then when you feel ready,
Let the next inhale come in naturally and fully and completely.
And then allowing that long,
Slow exhale.
And you don't need to move with my rhythm.
You can move at your own rhythm here.
Whenever you reach the bottom of that exhale.
Feeling that emptiness,
That spaciousness,
That completion,
That void.
And then considering when the next inhale wants to come into the body.
And we'll do this about seven more times.
I'll allow for some spaciousness and silence now so you can experience and witness and observe your own long exhale.
Noticing if the mind wanders.
And inviting the mind back to follow that smooth,
Long exhale.
Exploring the ability to make the exhales even smoother and even longer.
And noticing this last exhale as you're Last one for now,
This long,
Slow exhale to slow down the nervous system to come back to that state.
Neutral,
Optimal state of arousal,
That middle space.
Where you're not too hyper aroused,
But you're not too hypo or under aroused.
There's just kind of this steadiness that the breath invites us to find,
A slowing down,
A neutrality,
A spaciousness,
An ease.
And may we carry this ease with us throughout our day.
And remember that.
Following a long,
Slow exhale is available to us in any moment.
Thank you so much for sharing in this practice with me.
I'm Shannon Algeo again,
And I'll be seeing you soon here on Insight Timer.
