Hello and welcome to this meditation.
Let's start by finding a comfortable seated position.
One that we can gently maintain for the next 15 minutes or so.
Your hands may be resting on your thighs or in your lap.
The head and neck are straight but not rigid or tense.
And if you'd like you can gently close your eyes.
And once you're settled,
Let's make a commitment to remaining still without forcing or straining in a relaxed way for the remainder of this session.
We may at times feel restless.
We may at times feel uncomfortable.
But we are committed to not giving way to the impulse to move or adjust.
Any such impulse will eventually pass.
This is a promise we make to ourselves and it is a promise we intend to keep.
Now that we've comfortably established our position,
Just notice the rising and the falling of the breath in the abdomen.
Simply noticing the natural and effortless act of breathing.
The belly expands as the breath comes in.
And the belly falls as the breath goes out.
Sometimes our noticing of the breath can create a bit of constriction around it.
And that is perfectly okay.
The breath may be deep.
It may be shallow.
All of it is welcome here.
We're not here to adjust,
Change or improve anything.
Simply placing a gentle awareness on the sensation of breathing in the belly.
This sensation of breathing is our anchor point.
We are gently yet firmly rooted here in the center of awareness of the breath.
The raw sensation of breathing.
Thoughts,
Sounds,
Sensations and images will arise and may temporarily distract us from the breath.
When that happens,
We notice with compassion for ourselves that we have been distracted and gently return to the breath.
We are cultivating an attitude of acceptance for all that may arise in our experience.
A thought may arise that is unpleasant or irritating.
All is welcome here.
An impulse to adjust our seat or scratch an itch may arise.
All is welcome here.
A loud sound or noise may enter our field of awareness,
Which may initially annoy or distract us.
But all is welcome here.
A thought about the past or the future may arise.
All is welcome here.
Feelings of impatience and thoughts of,
When will this period of meditation be over,
May be present.
You guessed it.
All is welcome here.
Strong emotions such as fear,
Anger or worry may be present.
They too are welcome here.
Cultivating this attitude towards all that we may encounter in our lives.
This does not mean that we agree with everything and everyone.
This does not mean we become submissive.
This does not mean we become lazy and complacent.
It means that we accept what comes our way and choose an appropriate response if and when necessary from a place of stillness.
We accept reality rather than attempt to resist it.
Rather than try to smooth out the waves,
We become the ocean.
All sensations,
Thoughts,
Feelings and emotions are welcome here.
All of you is welcome here.
Reconnecting with the sensation of breathing in and out of the belly.
And if they've been closed,
You can start to gently open the eyes.
Move the fingers and the toes and the limbs.
And come back to the space around you in your visual field.
Thank you so much for taking this time.
May all beings be happy.
May all beings be healthy.
May all beings be free.
Take care.
