This meditation really hit deep in my heart and soul. I rarely stop to reflect what my deep personal needs are at the cost of people pleasing. Thank you for reminding me to stop and decide to make myself a priority especially on my birthday. I've been wanting to go away by myself to a yoga weekend retreat. You've inspired me and I may take the plunge and do that next year 🧘‍♀️. Blessings.

My birthday was last week (turning 55), and I’ve felt the same way for as long as I can remember—the quiet, unspoken weight of the day. I’ve disliked the pressure to perform, to feel like I should be grateful in a certain way, or to please others. I often long to quiet the noise inside. It’s a time when I deeply reflect on the heavy emotions that surface each year on that day. Usually, I find myself overwhelmed by a tangled web of complicated feelings before I shift my focus back to the 364 days when the spotlight isn’t on me. Thank you for putting into words what I’ve felt deep down for so long. An added caveat, Mom has dementia, so she didn’t even realize it was my birthday. It’s another strange revelation I find myself sitting with and observing—through no fault of her own. We had a strained relationship even before her diagnosis, but it feels odd to sit wondering all day, staring at my phone at times, hoping that a message will come through from the woman who gave me life. And the way you connect this inner sense of contentment to the art of writing is genius. Anything extra is a bonus, but the truth is, we write to express ourselves—and that’s enough. The real magic happens in simply showing up on the page, regardless of the audience or how they receive us. Thank you for leaving me with a lovely question to carry. ✨
