Hello and welcome to the Gratitude Breakfast Club,
A quick morning meetup to
help you jumpstart or maintain your gratitude practice.
We'll make it quick
because we know you have things to do on this beautiful day.
Good morning everyone
and welcome to the Gratitude Breakfast Club.
Some of you may have made it here
and to a gratitude practice in general because of your spiritual or religious
practice or because of the self-help or self-development work you've been doing
through the years.
Perhaps you encountered an article,
A book,
Or a
podcast.
Maybe it was Oprah.
And some of you may be here today because of therapy,
Because you've learned about and want to counter our brain's natural habit of
hedonic adaptation.
Whatever the reason,
I'm so happy you're here.
A gratitude and
appreciation practice positively impacts physical,
Mental,
And emotional health.
So
let's begin.
Today I'd like you to think about three
things.
The first is a goal you've achieved,
Large or small.
It could be
starting an exercise routine,
Cooking a meal,
Earning a degree.
Something you said
you were going to do and did.
Then I'd like you to think about what motivated
you to set that goal.
It could be that your health was poor,
You were tired or
sluggish,
You are hungry,
Or maybe you knew that you wanted that degree to
learn about and get into a career you're passionate about or to make more money.
Then think about the steps you took to achieve that goal.
Sometimes our paths
are straight and easy,
And I always appreciate when that happens.
But life is
often full of circuitous routes to our destinations,
And we often get
frustrated when the path isn't straight.
When there's a traffic jam,
Literal or
figurative,
Slowing our way.
So today as you think about the goal you've achieved,
Your inspiration for setting that goal,
And the path you took to achieving that
goal,
I'd like you to take a moment to acknowledge and be thankful for one
thing in each of those categories.
It might be a tiny thing,
But trust me,
If
you look,
You'll find it.
With love,
Appreciation,
And gratitude,
This is Karen.
