Morning Prayers for Friday, November 6 - Election week in the United States. Simple morning prayers in the Christian tradition using modern and inclusive language. The prayers are liturgical and repetitive, but each day the scripture reading and prayer focus changes. I invite you to join in this simple daily practice with others around the world. Good morning.

Today is Friday,

November 6th,

2020.

Oh Lord,

Let my soul rise up to meet you as the day rises to meet the sun.

Glory to God,

The three in one,

Creator,

Redeemer,

And sustainer,

As it was in the beginning,

Is now,

And will be forever.

Amen.

Come let us worship and bow down.

Let us kneel before the Lord,

Our maker.

Remind yourself that you are in God's presence.

Notice how God may be speaking to you today.

Let yourself dwell on a word or a phrase that jumps out at you and let your heart respond to God in prayer.

Please repeat these words.

You order your kingdom with justice and establish the world in peace.

Psalm 13.

How long,

Oh Lord,

Will you forget me forever?

How long will you hide your face from me?

How long must I wrestle with my anguish and wallow in despair all day long?

How long will my enemy win over me?

Look at me.

Answer me,

Oh Lord,

My God.

Give light to my eyes lest I sleep the sleep of death.

Lest my enemies say I have prevailed.

Lest my foes rejoice when I fall.

I trust in your love.

My heart rejoices in the deliverance you bring.

I will sing to you,

Oh Lord,

For being so good to me.

Please repeat these words.

You order your kingdom with justice and establish the world in peace.

It is still election week here in the United States and we are praying for our country.

So I invite you now to hold your nation,

Your country before God.

Don't worry about diagnosing the complicated needs in your country or telling God what to do.

Just simply hold your country before God and hear these words of prayer.

Lord God Almighty who has made all the peoples of the earth for your glory to serve you in freedom and in peace.

Give to the people of our country a zeal for justice and the strength of forbearance that we may use our liberty in accordance with your gracious will through Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and reigns with thee and the Holy Spirit one God forever and ever.

Grant,

Oh God,

That your holy and life-giving spirit may so move every heart and especially the hearts of the people of this land.

That barriers which divide us may crumble,

Suspicions disappear and hatred cease.

That our divisions being healed we may live in justice and peace.

In the name of Jesus who taught us to pray,

Our Father which art in heaven.

Eternal God,

Earth Maker,

Pain Bearer,

Life Giver,

Source of all that is and all that shall be.

Not only Father but Mother of us all.

May the hallowing of your name echo through the universe.

May the way of your justice be followed by the peoples of the world.

May your heavenly will be done by all created beings.

May your commonwealth of peace and freedom sustain our hope and come on earth.

With the bread we need for today feed us.

In the hurts we absorb from one another forgive us.

In times of temptation and test strengthen us.

From trials too great to endure spare us.

From the grip of all that is evil free us.

For you reign in the glory of the power that is love now and forever.

Amen.

And now my friends may the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ go with you wherever he may send you today.

May he guide you through the wilderness,

Protect you through the storm.

May he bring you home rejoicing at the wonders he has shown you.

May he bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors.

Go in peace.
