Marry me to lovely people,

It is Nina.

Let's talk about mermaids in Asia and especially in China.

So China of course it is the country of magic and mystery and interestingly enough mermaids in China are not mermaids,

They are dragons so the Chinese mermaids they are half woman half dragons and these Chinese mermaids Chinese female woman dragons they are very powerful forces of nature these dragon ladies they rule the weather and they inhabit in Chinese lakes,

Rivers,

Streams and seas.

When in Europe and in Western countries we tend to see dragons as massive giant lizards with bad wings.

In China and other Asian countries dragons are mostly serpents and some kind of hybrids of different animals.

So mermaids in China they are hybrids between woman and dragons and these dragons no matter where you go in China dragons are always the supreme forces of good,

Supreme forces of stability,

Good luck,

Fertility,

Happiness,

Joyful life,

Peacefulness of humankind and the world and all kinds of good things.

So in that sense mermaids in Chinese culture are representations of everything that is good in this world.

Panlong also known as the coining dragon lives in China's lakes and ponds and is the dragon of the freshwater.

Wanlong is also known as the yellow dragon and is told to be taught Emperor Fuxi how to write.

Li is the dragon of the salty seas and salt water and can be also found from the Chinese marches.

Li is also sometimes known as the homeless dragon.

If you want to pray good fortune and protection from the dragons you can find separate patacas from China that are temples where people can go burn incense and pray good luck from the dragons.

Most famous of all Chinese dragon ladies was the serpent goddess Nuwa and Nuwa was a very dashingly beautiful serpent goddess,

Half woman half dragon.

Around the world there's different myths where snakes and different kinds of lizards or dragons have been the beginning forces of creating the world and Chinese mythology is not exception.

In Chinese mythology a great god Bangu,

He created the world and the heavens and all the other worlds.

And then there was the evil spirit called Gongon who wanted to create chaos and destructions and he destroyed the four pillars that hold the heaven in its place,

Including the one pillar that hold the world,

Our world,

In its place.

And Nuwa,

The serpent goddess,

She wanted to do something so she found a giant turtle,

Probably killed the poor turtle,

And took the turtle's legs and placed them to hold the four pillars together and started to fix the pillars with colorful stones.

So this is how the great serpent goddess Nuwa rescued our world and all the other realms.

Story of Nuwa goes on that she married her brother called Fuxi and then Nuwa she wanted to populate this world that she had saved.

So she created animals and different plants,

The birds and fishes and then she took some yellow clay and started to shape these humanoid forms which became humans.

And after Nuwa had finished her creations,

Her husband Fuxi,

He taught humans how to fish and hunt and how to domesticate livestock and how to farm and how to read and how to write.

So I don't know how familiar you guys are with Buddhism,

Which is probably a religion I feel most connected most of the time.

I'm not very into religions otherwise.

Anyway,

What is very interesting is that Buddhism,

It actually is a branch of Hinduism.

Buddhism was a religion that was born out of Hinduism to its separate religion.

Siddhartha Gautama,

Who is also better known as Buddha,

Was originally a Hindu.

Well,

We don't know for sure did he really existed or not.

I believe that he existed,

But you know,

You never know.

But the stories and legends tell that he was a Hindu originally.

Anyway,

This story has a point.

In Hindu mythology there is huge amount of stories about Nagini's and different kinds of serpent spirits.

And it is believed that these serpent spirits that exist in China still today and around Asian countries,

They traveled together with Buddhism to Asia,

To northern eastern Asia.

This is how the stories widespread about these snake serpent people.

So thank you for watching guys.

These were stories about Chinese mermaids and dragon woman.

I always found Chinese mythology very very interesting and super shamanistic.

I will see you soon.
