Guru Mantra
by Kelsey Beine
This Sanskrit chant honors the many forms of guru – or dispeller of darkness – in this reality. As Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the sustainer), and Shiva (the Lord of dissolution) guide us, we respect their unique powers and guiding forces in life. The mantra is repeated once, followed by a short pause, and then repeated another three times. There is no introduction or closing, so you are welcome to play this recording during a guided practice – of your own or that you are facilitating for others. Lyrics: Om gurur brahma Gurur vishnuh Gurur devo maheshvarah Gurur sakchat param brahma Tasmai sri gurave namah Om shantih shantih shantih (Brahma is the guru. Vishnu is the guru. Shiva is the guru. Truly, the Transcendent One is the guru. To that most venerable guru, homage. Om peace, peace, peace.) Lyric and translation credit: Himalayan Institute
