Dwelling on the pain that we feel when we are angry, sad, or disappointed disturbs our peace and causes us to be further distressed. Let us use that pain to remind ourselves to be aware and stop creating more distress.

Using pain to stay alert.

When we touch a hot stove,

We feel pain.

This moment of physical pain alerts us to remove our hand from the stove to stop any further damage.

In the same way,

When we feel psychological pain like anger,

Guilt,

Shame or disappointment,

We can use this pain to alert our mind to become present and to deal with the situation without causing any further distress.

And it's easy to become present by just taking a few deep breaths into your nostrils and out to your nostrils.

In just two or three breaths,

We come back and we are present.

And though this may seem challenging to do,

Given some time and practice,

It soon becomes a habit.

Namaste.
