The meeting of our protagonists takes place under very special conditions,
In a forest on a full moon night.
I think I would have been scared to run into somebody in such circumstances.
Anyhow,
As a result of an initially trivial conversation,
A fundamental message for our evolution is transmitted to us.
The essence of meditation is exposed.
It is true that I have not had access to the original version of this story,
Probably written in English,
Where I suspect the original words were chosen meticulously for a purpose.
But in any case,
The message is crystal clear.
We can appreciate that there is a similarity in the labor of our main and only characters.
Both must be vigilant,
Alert.
And we know that Rabbi Naftali is aware that he has been quite absent-minded lately.
Rabbi Naftali is tapping in this story the great failure in our functioning as human beings,
The difficulty in being attentive,
Conscious.
And this being aware is what we know as meditation.
Meditation is the training we do to activate our inner technology.
And this training consists precisely of returning again and again to this state of openness and attention.
But why do we need to return so often,
Instead of relishing this state for as long as we wish?
The answer is as simple as difficult is to know the mechanism behind this fact.
Our narrow mind continually snatches the reins from us and begins its own journey,
Leaving a good part of us behind,
Connecting thoughts by association automatically without any control.
This is known as monkey mind.
Rabbi Naftali knows very well this weakness.
He is aware that he has been a bit careless lately and has not been carrying out his duties properly.
He has not been available to God.
He has not been connected with the Supreme Consciousness.
And why not to have a professional to remind you to go back to a state of mindfulness?
Since this is such an important task in our lives,
It makes perfect sense to me.
And you?
What are you willing to do in order to spend more time aware?
