Hello,
Welcome to this sleepcast.
My name is Linz and I'm your guide for now.
This is a quiet little corner for tired bodies and busy minds to slow down for a while.
Many of us move through the day with our nervous system switched on high.
Responsibilities,
Noise,
Decisions,
Life.
Even when the day ends the body doesn't always get the message that it's safe to settle.
And that's what I'm here to help you with.
These practices are designed to gently guide the body out of a state of alert back to something slower and steadier.
Just listen and allow your body to follow along.
Take some time to make yourself comfortable.
There's no rush.
You might adjust a pillow,
Soften your shoulders or simply allow your body to sink into whatever is supporting you.
There's nowhere else you need to be.
Nothing you need to do.
And while you're listening to my voice,
If you drift off into sleep at any point,
That's completely fine.
Your body will simply take what it needs.
So,
When you're ready,
If you've not done so,
Close your eyes,
Take a breath and let yourself rest.
Let the day gently fall away.
Take a slow breath in through your nose.
And release it slowly out through your mouth.
There's nowhere you need to go tonight.
Nothing you need to finish.
Nothing you need to solve.
The day has done.
And now the night is here.
Take another slow breath in.
And as you breathe out,
Allow your body to sink a little deeper into the surface beneath you.
It's supporting you,
Holding you,
Allowing you to sink down and down so your body can rest.
The quiet of the room wrapping gently around you.
Each breath out softens the body a little more.
Each breath out tells the nervous system that it's safe to rest.
All the body needs to do is breathe.
Relax and feel supported.
Let your attention drift gently to the top of your head.
The scalp softening.
The tiny muscles around the forehead smoothing out.
Imagine a quiet warmth spreading there like a soft blanket of calm settling across the skin.
Your eyebrows soften.
Eyelids grow heavy.
The small muscles around the eyes can finally rest after a long day of looking,
Focusing and scanning the world.
Let them soften now.
Loosen your cheeks.
Allow the jaw to release any tension.
The tongue can rest comfortably in the mouth.
No words to say.
All conversations are over.
The body can be still.
Allow that softness to drift down the neck.
The muscles around the throat loosening.
The back of the neck relaxing as the head sinks into the surface beneath you an inch or two more.
As if your shoulders begin to melt down away from the ears,
All the small tensions you carry there can just be released.
Everything slowly dissolves.
Your shoulders become heavy and the arms follow.
Upper arms relaxing.
Elbows softening.
Forearms resting heavily beside you so the hands can soften and the fingers gently uncurl.
As if the hands are finally letting go of everything they've held today.
There's nothing to carry now,
Nothing to hold on to.
Take a slow breath in.
And as you breathe out,
Feel the chest soften.
The ribcage widening gently with each breath.
The heart beating steadily and calmly.
Your body already knows how to rest.
It's practiced this rhythm for thousands of nights before.
Tonight is no different.
By giving the body space,
With every breath out,
It can begin to remember how to let go.
Let your attention move slowly to the back of the body.
Shoulder blades spreading across the surface beneath you.
Spine settling.
Each part of the spine releasing any effort.
It doesn't need to hold you up any longer today.
Your whole back widening into the surface beneath you.
Held and safe enough to rest.
Now the attention drifts gently into the belly.
Let the stomach soften completely.
Just the natural rise of the inhale and the slow falling of the exhale.
Breathing like gentle waves.
In and out.
In and out.
In and out.
In and out.
Each exhale quietly telling the body you can now rest.
Guide your awareness to the hips.
Allow the pelvis to become heavy.
The weight of the body sinking deeper into the surface beneath you.
Imagine gravity slowly increasing just enough for the body to feel soothingly supported.
Thighs soften.
Every muscle begins to loosen.
Knees can relax.
Calfs are heavy.
And all of the bones in the ankles let go.
And finally the feet.
The feet sinking into the surface beneath you.
Let the arches of the feet soften.
Toes relaxed and warm.
Be aware of the whole body.
Now resting.
From the top of the head to the tips of the fingers.
To the tips of the toes.
The mind sometimes takes a little longer to slow down.
But you don't need to stay with those thoughts.
Just imagine each thought floating gently away.
Like clouds drifting across a night sky.
The sky remains calm.
Even as the clouds pass through.
Now imagine the body becoming heavier.
Deeply relaxed.
Like sinking into warm sand on a quiet beach at night.
The surface beneath you supporting every part of your body.
So your body knows there's nothing left to hold.
And the surface beneath you is doing that for you.
Allow your breath to become slower.
More spacious.
Quiet.
And as the body continues to rest.
The mind can drift.
Thoughts becoming softer.
More distant.
Like voices heard from far away.
You may notice the edges of sleep beginning to appear.
That gentle feeling where the body is deeply relaxed.
And the mind begins to wander into a dreamlike state.
If that's happening.
Allow it.
You don't need to stay focused on my voice.
You can let it fade out.
If you're not ready for sleep.
Rest is good enough.
Body warm and heavy.
Your room is quiet and still.
The night is holding you gently.
Your only job now is to rest.
To drift.
To allow sleep to come whenever it's ready.
Continue resting here.
Breathing softly.
Allowing the night to carry you.
The surface to hold you.
I'm going to leave you now.
Rest well.
