The Six of Cups speaks to the simplicity and joy of connections,
Often hearkening back to the innocence of childhood relationships,
Or the early stages of romance.
While it encourages an appreciation for kindness and sharing,
It also cautions against immaturity or superficiality.
In this Active Imagination exercise,
We'll explore these themes to understand our current connections and foster sincere,
Meaningful interactions.
So just begin by finding a quiet and comfortable place to sit or lie down.
I'm just going to start by clearing out the mind a little with some meditation.
So just close your eyes now and take a couple of deep breaths.
Just allow the mind and the body to relax naturally.
And just keep your attention on the breath for now,
Wherever you happen to feel it the most.
And if at any point you do get distracted,
Simply bring the attention back to the exercise.
And now imagine yourself standing in a tranquil garden.
Each flower here represents a unique memory or emotional bond.
In this lush space,
You find flowers of all kinds,
Carrying a story or feeling.
Notice the flowers that attract your attention.
Do they radiate vitality or are they fading?
Let any emotions or memories that they represent come to the surface.
And now in this garden,
You come across six cups,
Each brimming with liquid in different colors,
Perhaps representing various emotions or experiences in your relationships.
Take a moment to look into each cup,
Observing the color and consistency of the contents,
And what feelings they might represent.
Choose one or more cups you feel drawn to and drink from them.
Pay attention to each taste.
Is it sweet?
Bitter?
Or something else?
Again,
Observe any feelings that arise or any insights with each sip.
And now you notice a figure approaching who symbolizes your interpersonal dynamics.
Examine this figure more closely,
Noticing their attire,
Their demeanor,
Perhaps their facial expression.
You decide to share a cup with them.
Choose a cup now and hand it to them.
And observe their reaction as they drink.
What do they say?
What insights or comments do they offer about the taste or feeling it evokes?
Note whatever message this figure has for you.
After hearing their message,
Now it's your turn to give a message to the figure and say whatever you would like to say.
Notice how the figure responds.
Do they offer you any insights by return?
How does their facial expression or their posture change?
After your conversation with the figure,
You notice a flower that encapsulates a memory or feeling you wish to carry forward.
Examine it closely,
Its colors,
Its fragrance.
Then carefully replant it somewhere else in the garden,
Where you feel it will thrive.
Notice how the flower changes as you replant it.
And notice any changes to the garden.
So just saying farewell now to the garden and the figure,
Expressing gratitude for their insights as you allow the scene to fade.
And you may wish to journal this experience after the exercise.
So just bring your attention back now to the space around you.
Noticing any sounds or sensations.
Take a deep breath.
And opening your eyes again in your own time.
