Hi and welcome.
It's Melissa here.
Recently,
I've been feeling irritated quite often.
I notice it's because life has been pulling me in different directions or that I've been having contradictory feelings.
At this time of winter solstice,
I'd like to call on its wisdom where light and dark is shifting and the world is able to hold multiple truths.
I hope this meditation help you find spaciousness when facing contradictions in life.
Let's begin by finding a comfortable position.
Settling into your body,
Your back straight,
Shoulders low and heavy,
Allowing your eyes to close.
Noticing your breathing.
Taking one deep breath in and out.
Feeling relaxed,
Soft and heavy.
In your imagination,
Visualize the winter sun and the darkness it lives in.
One way you can do this is to picture the great universe,
The sun,
Our sun right there,
And our earth in its orbit,
In its winter position.
Visualizing the earth at its angle and therefore showing only one smaller area that gets daylight throughout the day.
On this orb,
There's only that section that receives sunlight.
From this imagery,
You get a sense of the ratio of darkness to light.
You can also visualize simply a landscape or the view from outside your house.
Seeing the winter sun there.
And picture how that sun seems to be so much softer and unassuming compared to the other seasons.
And picture the imagery of darkness surrounding the sun.
Because it seems like not long after the sun rises,
It will soon set again.
Whatever your visualization is,
Ask for the sun's witness to your multiple,
Perhaps difficult truths.
Now,
Call into your mind a recent or recurring situation where you're being pulled in different directions or having mixed feelings,
Either by external pressure or just from your self-talk.
Can you name the specific feelings of having to go in one direction?
And the feelings of having to go in the other direction?
And notice why this situation is making you react.
And remembering the sun's presence,
The sun's witness.
It is helping you to be more aware of your surroundings.
It is helping you to allow space for what is true.
Now is not the moment to decide what to do,
What to say later.
Or what you should have said.
Now is not a time for solutions.
Not a time to change or fix yourself.
The sun is shining light into what's visible and what you think things should be.
It's also allowing space for darkness,
Where you cannot see but exists in its own right.
Complimenting the light.
Allowing for the undercurrent of unknown.
The winter sun is soft and short-lived,
But it is persistent in the reality of darkness.
In this environment,
You can hold polarities and complexities.
In the situation that you recalled,
Are you able to allow more space for darkness or for potential?
Now noticing the quality of your breathing.
Noticing any feelings that is prominent in your body.
You can scan through sensations around your face or neck,
Your chest or belly.
In this physical world,
You share a reality with the winter solstice.
And as we close,
Remember that you can carry this energy and spaciousness into your everyday situations.
Creating space before you need to react to feelings of frustrations.
Carrying with you the imagery of the soft winter sun living in its darkness.
Now getting ready to close,
Taking a deep breath in and slow breath out.
When you're ready,
You can open your eyes.
Thanks for watching!
