Languid, haunting, definitely an air of mysticism. Having spent a portion of my professional career immersed in studies of the Arabic speaking countries, learning/speaking/reading the language with native speakers, cultural and geographical studies, religious history and current events, I feel the underlying Egyptian (more than other countries except perhaps Saudi Arabia or maybe Syria) influences. As a long-time meditator, I note Tibetan influences. And most importantly for my spirit, though not mentioned in the description, I sensed an undercurrent of Peruvian and Central American (Aztec and Mayan) cultures as well. There was a slightly off (in my mind) mix of Aztec and Mayan temple culture with Macchu Picchu, but I also found it intriguing how all the above cultures mentioned share core similarities in certain respects, which are what was tapped into with this lovely recording.
The drone, the wordless vocals, the breathless waiting for the sun to rise and kiss the sacred land and stones as we bear witness to this daily miracle, with that fearful question of ages gone still lurking unbidden in the depths of the mind - what if the sun does not rise today? The sweet relief and slow exhale as the first rays begin to appear over the horizon, the release of tension not even recognized as present until gone, the joy in the warmth of the light upon our faces and skin.
Normally I listen to multiple musical tracks in the morning to help me get going as I work through the exercises necessary to enable me to get out of bed safely and move well through my day. I found with this piece, there were long pauses where I simply stopped, eyes closed, and listened. It washed through and over me in a most profound way. I do not think I want or need to listen to any more music right now - I want to let this linger and stay with me.
Thank you so much for sharing this deeply moving work with us here. I see you and the light within you. Be well. 🤲🏻❤️🤲🏻
