Details

Deep dive into your creative soul. For this three day retreat we quest after-through intuitive solo and group artistic exercises-the chalice of each of our unique creative souls. The intention is to source the abundance within each creative hand as it is held by the creator, so that this rich expressiveness can come forth. Using the splendor of the EncaustiCastle Compound gardens for visual inspiration, and the place-specific atmosphere of this urban oasis as the backdrop, each participant can expect to depart with a wealth of work as well as insight to the unique creative hand. About me as your host and creative guide: Patricia Baldwin Seggebruch is an internationally exhibited artist recognized for her commanding, minimalist encaustic paintings. Known for a “luscious” aesthetic that balances the raw, tactile nature of wax with refined, sensorial compositions, Seggebruch explores the quiet power of color and sensation. Her work is a study in depth—both physical and thematic—evoking a sense of stillness and permanence through the ancient medium of beeswax and resin. Seggebruch’s work is held in prominent private and corporate collections across the United States and Australia, including Symmetra Financial, St. Joseph’s Hospital, and the City of Albany, Western Australia. Her career is distinguished by a series of prestigious accolades, including the Great Southern Art Award and being named a multi-year finalist for the La Vendéene Award. From juried museum shows to international galleries, her paintings serve as a benchmark for contemporary encaustic practice. Complementing her studio practice is a legacy of global influence. As a foundational author in the medium, Seggebruch penned the bestseller Encaustic Workshop: Artistic Techniques for Working in Wax, alongside three other definitive volumes and a series of instructional videos. Her technical innovation led to a long-standing partnership with Enkaustikos, where she developed a signature line of professional materials, as well as her own curated brand of art supplies found in retail stores worldwide. As an educator, Seggebruch is the visionary behind Encausticamp, an immersive, international retreat-style program now in its 17th year. Her dynamic teaching style has bridged six continents, fostering a global community of wax artists from her home base in the United States to Europe and Australia. Patricia currently maintains her studio in Lexington, Kentucky. She divides her creative energy between her professional art practice and the meticulous restoration of her 1880 Victorian castle, a historic space that serves as both a sanctuary and an international hub for visiting artists and students.
