Welcome to Resilient Energy,
Where we'll be exploring natural ways to restore vitality,
Reduce burnout and support your body's inner balance.
I'm Rochelle,
A naturopathic nutritional therapist,
A nurse and health coach and today we're kicking off our first episode,
What is adrenal exhaustion really?
So let's start with the basics.
Your adrenal glands are small but powerful organs that sit on the top of your kidneys.
They produce hormones like cortisol,
Adrenaline and aldosterone,
Which regulate stress,
Metabolism,
Blood pressure and energy levels.
You may have heard the term adrenal exhaustion.
This refers to a state where the adrenal glands are overworked and underperforming due to chronic stress.
It's not the same as Addison's disease,
Which is diagnosable.
Mainstream medicine often depicts the term adrenal fatigue,
Arguing that the signs are still emerging.
But in holistic circles,
It's recognised as a real lived experience.
Symptoms can include constant fatigue,
Even after a good amount of rest,
Brain fog,
Difficulty concentrating,
Low mood and irritability,
Low blood pressure,
Dizziness when standing,
Salt and sugar cravings and sleep disturbances,
Especially waking up at 3am.
Adrenal exhaustion is tied to something called the HPA axis,
The hypothalamus pituitary and adrenal gland axis.
When stress is unrelenting,
This system gets over activated.
Over time,
Your cortisol levels may become dysregulated,
Leading to that wired but tired feeling.
The good news is your adrenals are resilient.
With the right care,
Nutrition,
Rest and stress management,
You can absolutely support their recovery.
In this series,
I'll guide you through practical steps to heal.
So join me next time as we explore the signs,
Stages and triggers of adrenal exhaustion.
And until then,
Be kind to yourself.
