January is not a false beginning. In nature, winter is a time of rest, root-building, and unseen preparation. Beneath the soil, seeds are gathering strength before they rise in spring. This New Moon invites you into that same rhythm. This intention-setting meditation honors the first New Moon of the year as a gentle beginning rather than a forced reset. You do not need clarity or urgency, only presence. Here, intentions are planted softly, with trust in their natural unfolding. In this practice, you are guided to release pressure, listen inward, and place supportive intentions into winter soil, allowing them to grow in their own time. What is planted now will emerge when the season is right.

Around January 1st,

You might start to notice a lot of talk about how the real new year doesn't start until spring.

But January isn't a false start.

It's a quiet beginning.

It's the perfect time to plant seeds,

Set your intentions,

And align with the energy of fresh starts.

So today we'll use this new moon to honor both your new year intentions and the gentle power of beginning anew.

Because January is still winter,

It's wet,

Cold,

And dark.

We will be directing our energy planting seeds of intention in the cold wet soil,

Allowing nature to do the work,

Using visualization.

Many seeds need the cold to germinate,

So taking the season to prepare internally is ideal for honoring trust over control.

The seed is not inactive.

Germination awaits for the right signal and not the calendar.

The seeds rest where it's safe,

Allowing the winter moisture and cold to soften the seed's coat.

Growth begins before it's visible.

Spring doesn't start the process.

It reveals it.

Before planting our seeds,

We have to be conscious of what it is that we want to grow.

So as you know,

We can't plant the seed of a wildflower and hope to grow a great oak.

So take this quiet moment and remember what you intend to plant,

Gathering all of your seeds together with intention.

Begin by sitting comfortably.

Gently close down your eyes.

Settle into your seat,

Getting comfortable in your body.

Take a few conscious breaths,

Breathing in through your nose and feeling that cold air move down into your belly.

And as you exhale,

Feel the warmth of your breath moving up and out.

Taking another deep breath in and gently holding at the top and release with a long,

Slow exhale.

And take one last conscious breath here and then return to your normal breathing.

Now imagine the damp,

Wet soil beneath your knees as you kneel down to plant your seeds.

You begin to dig little holes for your seeds,

Making sure they're not lying on the surface because your intentions need protection.

But not too deep because they still need to breathe.

Just deep enough so that they are hidden but reachable,

Covered and not concealed.

Deep enough to feel safe.

Each seed has its own space,

No crowding,

No comparisons.

Making sure there's enough room for roots to stretch,

Nutrients to reach,

And to grow without competition.

Remembering that spacious planting creates resilient growth.

Imagine picking up each seed one at a time and placing them in the palm of your hand.

And as you do this,

Surround each seed with each intention using a golden light.

Each seed is now overflowing with love and abundance.

You may now gently place your seeds in their holes.

Before covering your seeds,

Send out a prayer of intention.

A prayer for yourself,

For the season,

For the season of rest,

Breath,

Honesty,

And consistency.

Rest for your roots,

Prioritizing sleep,

Slower mornings,

And honoring low-energy days.

Vowing to protect your soil by reducing unnecessary input,

Noise,

Scrolling,

Or over-explaining,

And by creating boundaries that conserve warmth and safety.

Awareness to moisten and not flood,

Giving gentle nourishment,

Consistency over intensity,

Tending with care and then stepping back.

Expanding internal strength through self-reflection without judgment.

Nervous system regulation in quiet routines.

Releasing what does not serve you any longer,

Comparisons,

Outgrown stories,

Limiting beliefs,

And expectations formed in other seasons.

Trusting the unseen,

Knowing that roots are growing before you will see the sprout.

Trusting there is growth before there is evidence.

And prepare yourself for the blessings that are coming.

Clearing space for your intention to manifest.

Readying your body,

Your mind,

Your home,

And your calendar for spring.

In order to hold the abundance that is coming,

You must create space for it to land.

Winter isn't about becoming,

It's about becoming ready.

Remembering in this season that we don't grow outward,

We grow capable.

Capable to carry that which we seek.

Now gently push the soil over your seeds,

One by one.

Notice what the soil feels like in your hands.

The topsoil,

Moist and warm from the sun.

As you cover your final seed,

Acknowledge that now you allow time to pass.

Waiting for the spring equinox,

Where the day and the night are nearly equal.

This will be the moment you choose.

The moment you choose how to consciously move forward.

The moment the seed breaks dormancy.

Breathe in deep gratitude for taking this first new moon of the year and giving it intention.

And release your breath with honor to your commitment to live the life that is truly meant for you.

Coming to a close by placing your hands over your beating heart.

Feeling those small faithful repetitions.

Trusting growth is happening even when we cannot see it.

And releasing the need to control the outcome.

Taking in one final deep breath,

Filled with love,

Faith and abundance.

And release this breath with the knowing that you are worthy.

You are becoming.

You are ready to receive.

Gently open your eyes,

Bringing movement back into your body.

Putting a big smile on your face.

And knowing how powerful you are.

Becoming the intentional creator of your life.

Thank you so much for joining me on this beautiful first new moon of the year.

Happy new year,

Happy new moon.

Namaste.
