Explore MeditationMusician, writer, and educator J.S. “Jo" Purvis has been meditating and practicing yoga for over 20 years. First drawn to mindful practices to help cope with performance anxiety in the high-pressure classical music world, Jo quickly realized that this work was improving all aspects of her life. As a performer, composer, and educator, Jo strives to access and share the transformative power of music to open hearts and bring more compassion to the world, starting right inside ourselves. Also a writer, Jo’s debut, critically acclaimed YA fantasy “The Watchers” features a pacifist heroine facing a violent world—the heroine she always wanted to see when growing up. In addition to her degrees in music; decades of mindfulness, yoga, and Quaker practice; and over 15 years as a teacher, Jo has received training in teaching mindfulness from Mindful Schools, Life Coach Doug Silsbee, and many more, and is a RYT-200 yoga teacher through Breathe for Change (currently training for RYT-500 certification). Her best teachers of all are her three children and wonderful husband, all of whom are creators of the best beauty and chaos.
