#14 Receive Self-Knowledge From Higher Dimension | Yoga Sutras Of Patanjali
Knowledge happens in intuition. It happens in a state of consciousness that is unidentified, steady, and still. Patanjali emphasizes bringing the steadiness to the mind by practicing various meditations. In this session he gives two meditations: 1. Meditate upon those who are unidentified 2. Meditate upon the knowledge that comes in sleep

Namaste and a very warm welcome to all of you in this daily morning live meditation session with me the answer my salutations to the knowledge of yoga to Patanjali for opening this knowledge to us and for us to sit in meditation together meditating upon this sacred knowledge together.
I call this knowledge sacred in fact all knowledge that is accessible to us is sacred we as humans think that we create knowledge we think that we produce knowledge but if you carefully see and if you honestly take a look into all the knowledge that is available to humans it has come out of a spark of intuition or some other dimension opened up not in the ordinary states of the mind where somebody just put a plus b plus c together and discovered something new even if you see in this example of a plus b plus c and we call that as something new the a the b the c they all were intuitions first they all came in states of being that was not occupied that was that cannot be called as mind that cannot be accessed just with logic the fundamental blocks of knowledge that we call as knowledge today and we are so proud as human beings of and we claim that knowledge to be ours is actually all coming from somewhere else the only thing we could do was and is is to be accessible to it to remain a receiver so that we become the portals of that knowledge so that we receive that knowledge in pieces which we then put together and claim as science and claim as knowledge for us or the entire set of knowledge that is brought to us by people like Patanjali who opened up their consciousness to beyond human beyond what we call as ordinary states of mind why am I telling you all this is to understand that in order to have self knowledge in order to really know oneself you have to receive you have to be even a receiver of the knowledge of who you are you cannot claim that you cannot say that I will aggressively move towards that you have to be a silent receiver of that that's the only thing that we could do about knowledge of the inner world and even also of the knowledge of the external world we have to be in a state of receiving of openness so that the knowledge happens and that knowledge does not happen in thought that knowledge does not happen first in logic it first happens in intuition it first happens in the illogical then the logic claims it it snatches from the illogical it takes the rational takes from the irrational and claims that I discovered it and the ego appears and we claim that that knowledge is what we have discovered is what belongs to us now it belongs to me or it belongs to I or it belongs to us as human beings yoga sutras of Patanjali we give the credit to Patanjali for opening up the knowledge to us but this knowledge also did not happen just by humans experimenting with themselves or with others or in the ordinary realms of our consciousness let us appreciate the source of this knowledge and the purpose of this knowledge to uplift us from our ignorance to bring us from ignorance to light to take us from misery to bliss that is there always in us but we are ignorant and we need that knowledge to enlighten us to show us the way to put once again things back in order currently we are discussing yoga sutras of Patanjali where Patanjali is expanding on how to bring steadiness in the mind and this steadiness of the mind is very important Patanjali has been emphasizing this in almost every sutras in the beginning of this series that the steadiness is necessary for moving any further in any sort of super consciousness or any sort of self knowledge because unless the waters are still you can never see what is in the depth if the waters of the lake or river or any other medium is moving if there is movement in the medium you can never see through so in order to see through ourselves in order to understand ourselves in order to have that self knowledge the mind which is a medium has to be completely steady has to be completely calm and Patanjali is putting all his effort he is giving all what he can covering all aspects all dimensions so that we while we are going through our daily life coming across different situations know what to do how to put our mind in a steady state how to put our mind in a calm state so that the awareness can always penetrate through and always remain centered by being very clear by being seated in our own being and with that we see through ourselves and we see through rest of the world and knowledge happens to us.
Let us look at what Patanjali has to say in sutras for today.
The first sutra Patanjali says,
Vith raga vishin vachittam,
What that means is meditate upon those who are free from attachment.
Now this is an indication in a society where you have those people which are free from all attachment which have renounced everything which are an example to learn from what non attachment is in a societal structure that we live in we have no room for those kind of people specially in the times of today where those who are unattached those who have no desires they either have no place in society or they are almost non existent they never show up.
In India several years ago society was structured in a way as an example where there were those yogis there were those renunciates who had no desires who were just wandering around from one place to the other when they felt hungry they begged for food and the idea was not to live in poverty and demonstrate that poverty but the idea was to get inspired from the non attachment that they were having they were completely unattached from unidentified from the clothing from the food from any desires that one could possibly have they were completely unidentified and in those societies if you are living if you come across those type of people that is not to say that you become one of those but to inspire yourself to really see what this what freedom that non attachment brings that non identification brings and then take that learning into our own life and bring this and translate this to our own life-sides and try to live non identification non attachment with petty little things in our life and focus on what is more important focus on one's own clarity one's own self development one's own self knowledge the next sutra which is far more interesting and more relevant for the times of today Patanjali says swapna nidra jnanalam vam what that means is by meditating on the knowledge that comes in sleep so this is where there is very surprising very interesting knowledge that Patanjali dropped on us he says even meditate in your sleep even meditate on the knowledge that arises in sleep you see we live in these three different states of consciousness the waking state the dreaming state and the deep sleep state and the way we are constantly engaged in things in the waking state even more so today than ever before has resulted in that garbage of the waking state also completely spilling over the dreaming state spilling over the deep sleep state and you know how much of how many of us are unable to sleep properly how many of us are unable to concentrate in the waking state and are constantly distracted here and there all by external distractions external non external factors and no knowledge can happen no knowledge can happen in the waking state and we can completely forget about having knowledge in sleep or in the dreaming state earlier all these three states of consciousness the waking state the dreaming state and the sleep they all were used as portals for knowledge because you are in somewhat different frequency in a different state of consciousness in all these three states and the knowledge that you access in the waking state the knowledge that you could potentially access in the dream state and the knowledge that you could access in the deep sleep state we are completely unaware of that and we have been made dependent only on the knowledge that is coming from an external source that we have claimed to put together and we are made to be dependent on that in the waking state and in the dreaming state we are just recycling that all the all the garbage that we have collected in the waking state is somehow being processed in the dreaming state making it completely an unfair state of consciousness having no chance to access anything from another dimension and the sleep state we are happy if you could get few hours of sleep forgetting about even the knowledge that we could have in that sleep here Patanjali is expecting that we would raise ourselves we would put ourselves in that discipline in that order that we could even have access to knowledge in our sleep how to do that is to see that there is a common denominator in all the three which is awareness if your awareness is pure if your awareness is established you have knowledge in the waking state you have knowledge in the dreaming state you have knowledge even in the deep sleep state yogis can train themselves to even be aware in the deep sleep state for us what is relevant what is the most important where the emphasis lies is to purify one's awareness to remain aware in every possible state and whatever arises in our consciousness not just get carried away with it but remain aware that emphasis I would like us to have in our meditation today as well where you just simply sit in silence and whatever arises in your consciousness whether you are in the waking state whether you are still dreaming or you are still asleep while you are listening to me no matter in which state of consciousness you are in remain aware and whatever arises in your consciousness let that go let that pass as something that is not knowledge something that is just a disturbance and wait until the mind is steady wait have patience until the mind completely settles and the awareness starts to bring knowledge to the surface let us close our eyes and take the next few moments to be silent to be aware make sure your posture is comfortable your breath is calm and natural your awareness is turned inwards and observe the state of your mind the state of your being the state of your consciousness without trying to change anything simply observe whatever arises in your inner space observe let go unidentified observing breath flowing in naturally allowing your body to rest your mind to calm and your awareness to observe your mind to observe your inner space to observe your being anything that arises in your consciousness you Words,
Images,
Ideas,
Anything that arise,
Let it be.
Where it pass,
Remain the observer,
Remain in observation,
Silently aware of your inner space.
.
You may sense your energies reorganizing,
Allow that to happen while you remain aware of your inner space.
You may sense your energies reorganizing,
Allow that to happen while you remain aware of your inner space.
Do not move in any particular direction,
In a particular corner,
Be aware of the whole inner space.
Let the whole settle,
Let the whole become silent.
Let the whole become silent.
Don't try to grab anything.
Don't try to hold onto anything.
Don't try to be somewhere,
Simply be.
You may sense your energies reorganizing,
Allow that to happen while you remain aware of your inner space.
Move deeper.
Move deeper in this awareness,
In this silence.
Move deeper in this silence.
Far away from the surface of thoughts,
Of images,
Of all the contents,
Remaining in the depths of your silence and awareness.
You may sense your energies reorganizing,
Allow that to happen while you remain aware of your inner space.
As you allow yourself to sink in these inferences,
As you allow yourself to sink in these infinite depths of silent awareness,
As you allow yourself to sink in these infinite depths of silent awareness,
As you allow yourself to sink in these infinite depths of silent awareness,
So don't hold yourself and let yourself completely go in these silent depths as you practice more and more.
If you wish to do that now,
Let go of everything and simply stay silent and aware as long as you can.
Or very gently and slowly come back to the surface,
Come back to your mind,
Come back to your body,
And gently and slowly you may open your eyes while maintaining the steadiness of the mind as you proceed in your daily routines.
I will see you tomorrow at 7 am Central European Time.
Namaste.

I think I had a moment where the penny dropped! Clearing the mind, allowing it to be still, not just in meditation but throughout the day is where self knowledge happens, enabling us to respond rather than react. Meditation is the means by which we develop this skill - which is really hard to do outside of formal meditation. Thank you.
