(Wk 3) Duality + Contrast Part 3 - Unleash Your Peace
by Ellie Shoja
Can reframing your problems solve your problems? On the third day of this week's topic, Duality + Contrast, I will share details of contrast-filled, unconventional childhood (growing up with an abusive, con artist father, living in refugee camps, and moving incessantly) in order to demonstrate how reframing my experiences helped me release my suffering and find lasting internal peace.
Transcript
Hello and welcome back to Unleash Your Peace.
My name is Ellie Shoja.
I am your host.
I am a positive mindset coach,
A personal transformation expert,
And a deliberate creator.
Now Unleash Your Peace is the podcast for you if you want to release your unwanted pain,
You want to tap into that lasting internal peace that lives within you and you want to live your best life yet.
I created this podcast because I know that when you live from a place of peace and joy and connectedness,
You don't just incrementally improve the quality of your life,
You actually exponentially innovate every aspect of your experiences on this physical plane.
And there's nothing I want more for you than for you to live this authentic life from your power,
For you to become your whole beautiful,
Powerful self and level up in such a way that it pulls everyone around you up with you.
This week's topic is all about the human experience.
We're focusing on contrast and duality here and we've talked about how duality is necessary for us to exist in the first place.
Without duality,
There's no existence at all.
And then we talked about how contrast is necessary for us to create and to expand because contrast allows us to see what we want and what we don't want.
It allows us to define our preferences so that we know what we want to create.
It allows us to ask questions and define problems so that we can answer those questions and we can find solutions.
And those things are at the core of expansion.
Now if you are new to this podcast and you are not familiar with my past,
With my experiences,
You might think that I don't understand what you are going through with the contrast that you're experiencing.
You might think that your contrast is just so huge that you simply cannot see it as a blessing in disguise.
I want to take just a couple of moments and let you know that I know where you are because I had a really contrast filled childhood and life.
If you've read my bio,
You know that my dad was actually a con artist.
He was extremely abusive.
We moved around incessantly.
We changed our names.
We changed our identities and lived in multiple countries under the guise of different identities.
So I spent most of my life not knowing what was going to happen literally next week.
When we were in Germany,
We lived in refugee camps and we moved eight or nine times in one year.
That happened two and a half years in a row.
Eventually when I was 12 years old,
My mom worked up the courage to rescue us,
Rescue me and my sister and we ran away.
We literally ran away.
We left our apartment in the middle of the day.
We never went back to that location.
A week later we were in Iran and I have not had any contact with my dad since.
I spent all of my childhood and much of my adulthood feeling angry and depressed.
I felt like there was nothing that was in my control,
That whether I existed or not didn't matter.
I felt completely invisible.
I was in a perpetual state of internal turmoil for much of my life until I started turning the lens inward and exploring this internal world that was such a mystery to me that I didn't even know existed.
Everything that I share with you on this podcast comes from my own journey of finding peace within.
In the first episode of this podcast,
I told you that peace is not outside of you.
It is within you.
It is like the sun that is always shining.
Words might obscure your vision of the sun,
But the sun doesn't go away just because there's a storm or there's rain or there's snow.
The same way that the sun doesn't go away,
Your peace does not go away.
It's within you.
It simply gets obscured.
It gets hidden behind these storms of anger and frustration and resentment and fear and turmoil.
By turning the lens within,
As we have been doing in this podcast,
We actually start seeing the clouds part and we actually start seeing where that peace lives within us so that we can bring it out into the world.
So my purpose here is not to diminish your experience because sometimes it might feel like if you let go of the suffering that you have built around the contrast of your life,
You are somehow invalidating the experience itself.
And I'm not here to invalidate your experience.
You lived this life.
You are living this contrast.
This contrast is an important part of your journey.
All I'm here to do is to say that there is a different way to look at this contrast that does not create suffering and that it is okay to let go of the suffering.
It's okay to look at your story through a lens of empowerment rather than a lens of helplessness.
It is okay to find hope inside a seemingly hopeless experience.
And what we're actually doing here is we are reframing your problems.
So all of the conflict in your life,
All of the blocks in your life,
All of the problems in your life,
We are calling them contrast.
And we're calling them contrast because if you call what is present in your life contrast instead of a problem,
Instead of a conflict,
Instead of a wall,
Instead of a block,
Do you see how my language just by calling it contrast,
I am reframing what is present into something that doesn't have to create suffering.
If I know that the purpose of this contrast is to help me evolve and help me expand,
Then I am not going to look at it as something that creates suffering for me because something that is meant to help me expand is something beneficial for me.
So if somebody steals my cell phone and instead of looking at it as,
Oh my God,
Why does this kind of horrible thing always happen to me and I reframe it as,
Oh,
This is a really interesting contrast and I wonder what expansion it's supposed to lead to.
I am taking the power away from a helpless situation.
Yes,
I'm saying somebody stealing from me is for my benefit.
There is tremendous power in the ability to do that.
So as you go through your day to day,
See if you can reframe everything that happens to you that you would rather not have happened as contrast.
And every time something happens,
You arrive late to a meeting,
You get a parking ticket,
Someone says something hurtful to you,
Whatever it is,
Whatever happens in your life,
See if you can look at it as the contrast of that moment and see if you can change your perception about it and actually say to yourself,
Oh wow,
Look at this interesting contrast that just popped up.
I wonder what expansion this is going to lead to.
I wonder what this is going to help me create.
Remember contrast is here for your expansion.
The only reason it exists.
The only reason we have contrast is for your expansion.
So tomorrow we will dive even a little bit more deeper into this topic and until then visit Instagram and find peace unleashed and read some of those love notes that I share with you and share them with whoever you think could use a message of love today.
