Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in Nature with me Liz Scott and you join me on the 29th day of my pilgrimage and I am at Avebury.
I've been wandering around Avebury and looking at the prehistoric sites,
The barrows,
The stone avenues and the very famous stone circle at Avebury which is where I am at the moment standing beside one of these enormous stones.
This one is quite a small one actually I would say it's probably 12-15 foot tall but many of them are as tall as a bus maybe a small house.
They are an extraordinary size and as you know on my pilgrimage I've been following the Michael and Mary energy currents and Avebury is a very significant place for these currents.
Today earlier I came with my husband and we looked around the stone circle and it's a little bit discombobulating to to make sense of.
There's a road that splits it in half well into quarters actually this enormous stone circle.
There are houses built in the middle of it,
Trees growing.
It's very hard to make it out that it's it's you visit it in quarters and each quarter you cross over a road to then visit the next quarter of the stone circle and I arrived here with my husband today and we looked around it and I just felt a little bit disorientated with it it just didn't make sense to me and he disappeared off he wanted to go and do some other things and I went on a walk that took in some of the landscape.
It was about a five mile walk I walked up to what's called Silbury Hill which is a hill that looks a bit like a pyramid it's got grass all over it now a pyramid without the top on and then made my way to West Kennett Long Barrow and that's a Long Barrow that you can just actually walk into.
It's like a womb-like space quite extraordinary and that that was where I came 14 months ago where I had a very strong experience of a spiritual energy there and that was the beginning of me starting to find out about the Michael and Mary energy currents in fact the Mary current I subsequently realized goes through there.
I then made my way to the sanctuary which is no longer there as a stone circle but it it used to be a stone circle and then a few hundred years ago the stones were removed by farmers they were repurposed made into houses just used for different purposes so there are concrete blocks representing the stone circle there but there is a node point there and the node point is still there I spent some time at the node point and then I walked down what's called West Kennett Avenue and this avenue brought me into Avebury Stone Circle and it was suddenly there that all the stones started to make sense I could see on the map the way and the direction of the Mary and Michael energy current and as I came in off West Kennett Stone Avenue I crossed two node points and they were marked by stones and then I walked along the Mary and Michael currents that run alongside each other for a while before they veer off in different directions and I'm telling you all of this because as I've walked this extraordinary route today and I've seen the cars whizzing by that on the roads that slice through these ancient monuments I just asked the question of myself like how much have we really progressed how much have we progressed on one level we've progressed enormously you know four thousand years ago or whenever these stones were erected the thought of cars and whizzing around the countryside and being able to do a journey of a hundred miles in a couple of hours well that would have been that would have just been something people couldn't have understood so I do understand that we have made progress but then I think about the exhaust fumes the air that we breathe the rivers that are dirty the sea that has got litter in it I do ask the question of how far have we actually progressed and I also ask that question about our spiritual nourishment as well so today I'm just kind of reflecting on the question what progress have we actually made and I don't have any answers but I feel there are big holes in the progress that we've made and there is something within me that is drawn to drink heavily from the well of nature and spirituality because that is the only way I feel I can slake my thirst and find equilibrium in this world that can be quite disorientating at times
