Details

Are you in need of a reset, a moment to hit the pause button on life? Our 8-day France retreat takes you to the southwestern foothills of the French Pyrenees for daily movement, connection with nature, and a chance to restore in an idyllic French countryside château setting. Join us as we explore a region of France that is a true hidden gem. You’ll discover quaint French villages, stroll through traditional French markets and discover Ariégeoise craftsmanship. Each day you’ll get to move your body, immerse in nature and visit historical sites and medieval ruins unique to the mid-Pyrenees region. Invoke your inner chef through a French cooking class, learn about ancient French healing traditions through herbs, and participate in a workshop about the historically famous medieval art of dying fabrics with the local pastel plant. The whole week is steeped in little-known French history and culture - including the art of leisure at your historic château - and fueled with fresh, local and seasonal French cuisine. You’ll also have numerous optional activity add-ons such as a wine, chocolate and pastry tour, e-bikes, massages, and a long day hike.

The itinerary starts in Toulouse and finishes in Carcasson. In Toulouse, we’ll be staying in the city center, which is quite charming and small. Expect to walk a fair bit – this is the European way! Each room is equipped with WiFi, hot water, a private bathroom, comfy linens, and towels. We look for places that feel like a home away from home: genuine hospitality, warmth, cleanliness, comfort, decor and charming and gracious local hosts. One thing that travelers are sometimes surprised by in Europe: twin beds are often separated by just a few inches! Rooms are often small, and this is often the way beds and bed frames are organized in Europe, as they can make for either two twins (slightly separated) or one full bed. In our Château some of the double rooms are set up with one double bed and one twin bed. You and your roommate can sort out who gets which. Also, note that many older French and European buildings do not have elevators, including our chateau. Though the staff will do their best to help with luggage, it is expected that you’re able to carry it up the stairs yourself.

Testimonials

info

Tegan exceeded my expectations ten fold. She really knows her history and taught us so much. I love history and that was a key reason I chose this trip. Her way of explaining things made it feel very comfortable. And there is nothing I didn't love about the chateau. The grounds, the facility, the staff, the dog. Everything was perfect...I wish the trip didn't end

Liz, France

Lee was amazing and took great care of every individual. I felt very welcome and part of the community. The pilates was amazing with an eye for detail and adjusted for every level.
