Shine Your Light (Diwali)
by InnerSpace
Diwali is a celebration relevant to all souls of the world. During Diwali, people light lamps, set off fireworks, clean their homes, open new business accounts, and share sweets. For many, these activities have just become rituals where no one knows the meaning behind them. Traditional lamps are made out of clay, just as the body is made of clay. Within the lamp is the flame. Within the body, there is “I” the soul - the living flame of consciousness.

Om Shanti,
Welcome,
Good evening.
This is Rose from Glasgow Inner Space and we're looking at Soul to Soul and we're going to look at a very beautiful programme.
It's what we all focus on actually when we do Raja Yoga meditation,
Shine your light.
So we're celebrating tonight this festival,
It's a yearly festival of Diwali.
It's a celebration that's relevant for all souls of the world.
So during this festival people light lamps and they set off fireworks and they clean their homes.
Also it's very auspicious so they open new business accounts and they also share sweets.
And for many these activities have just become rituals for no one knows the actual meaning behind them and traditionally the lamps are made out of clay just as the body is made of the elements.
So the body is also made out of the elements of matter and within the lamp there's the flame.
So the flame is I,
The soul,
The living flame of consciousness.
So lighting lamps reminds us of sparkling souls,
That I am the soul,
I am the light within this physical body.
And then I can bring that light into the world when I remember that I am the light,
The lamp.
I am the living lamp.
I can bring that light into the world.
And then awareness of the true being is enlightenment.
I am light.
So the supreme soul reminds me of my true identity as a soul.
And so this very beautiful festival very beautiful festival reminds us of victory over negativity or of evil.
So victory over negativity really.
But it's not really an external bad force that we have to conquer because I'm cleaning out my inner world and I'm making sure I support my own positive self.
So when I look through the eyes of Raja Yoga meditation I can see that we are igniting the light of our beautiful inner qualities and they've been hidden for a long time but they remain alive within us and that is the qualities of purest energy,
Peace,
Love,
Happiness and strength.
Power,
Purity,
Peace,
Love and happiness.
People clean every corner of their homes for this festival of Diwali because there is power in cleanliness.
Especially when it's active in our thoughts and actions.
Clean thoughts and clean actions.
And when starting new business accounts and wearing new clothes people aim to forget any old bitter relationships and they create new positive relationships like past is past.
Let's forget that and be friends again.
And also exchanging sweets at this festival inspires us to think sweet thoughts and speak sweet words.
So it's very nice actually to be very positive and loving to others.
So every day can be like the festival of lights when I remember I'm a soul.
Festivals give us time to reflect and refresh our aims.
What is it?
Why am I doing this meditation?
What is it all about?
What is really valuable in life?
Am I living in tune with these living values?
Am I doing this?
So shine your light today.
Celebrate each day as a true festival.
Celebrate each day as a true festival of lights.
So it's really rather lovely to think like this if I can remember and I can remember more and more when I practice meditation.
A festival of inner light is to keep remembering that I am the soul and the world really needs each one to get back to our natural goodness.
To live in harmony by remaining aware of what we actually really are.
We're all peaceful,
Loving beings.
Beings of energy who understand that we are the light and that everyone around us is actually a soul and so we are all peaceful beings,
All children of the one supreme,
The one above.
So when I practice meditation more and more it becomes firmer and firmer within me that I am the energy that lives in this body and more and more my true qualities emerge.
I do change.
I feel myself become more loving,
More thoughtful,
More kind and actually more energized and more forgiving.
So if I could understand what I am doing now,
What I am doing now,
What I am doing now,
What I am doing now,
So if I could understand that it's the festival itself which is only for a day but it symbolizes victory over negativity but it's actually to look at the negativity inside because I'm cleaning out my inner world and I'm making sure I support my own self,
My positive self.
I become more accurate in my actions and this power of where they clean every corner of their homes is a very good quality because cleanliness actually is a safety.
If we think about it,
It saves us in many ways from that power of negativity and especially if I have cleanliness in my thoughts and my words and my deeds and I find that with meditation you can begin to understand when something not so useful starts to come to the surface of our mind and we can put a stop to that.
We think no don't do that,
Don't go there.
So they start new business accounts,
It's like a new year and they look at their accounts and start anew and also everyone has new clothes.
So it's fresh,
It's like everything's new,
Wear new clothes,
Invite all your family,
Celebrate,
Share food,
Share sweets,
Let the past be past,
Everything's back to being nice again and so we start off a new year with that kind of attitude.
So it's very healthy,
Very healthy.
So that's what happens physically and so emotionally when I practice Raja Yoga I can practice that every day.
So more and more cleanliness in my thoughts,
More and more friendliness in my attitudes,
More and more accuracy in the things that I do,
Watching that I don't have thoughts that are not useful to others or myself and so you can celebrate each day as a true festival of lights because it's the inner light of the soul and actually we're so valuable to the world that the world really needs each one of us to go back to our natural nature and we must be like a boost of fresh energy to the world because there's thousands and thousands of people who are practicing Raja Yoga meditation and those thousands upon thousands are making a difference.
So if I think like that,
To encourage myself to live in harmony by remaining aware over and over of who I am and who others around me are so we can more and more live in harmony as peaceful beings.
So it actually is a wonder especially when I see that everyone around me,
Whatever they do,
Wherever they're coming from,
Is a child of the one above,
A child of the divine and so even if we practice this a little we're doing something rather wonderful and it will grow and accumulate but for that particular day,
This day of the festival of lights,
It's a very splendid occasion where there are lights everywhere,
Everyone lighting lamps and candles and lights,
Very beautiful but go back to the meaning of who I am,
I am the light,
I am the living light and so I make sure that I'm cleaning out my inner world and making sure I'm supporting my positive self.
I am a soul,
I am a light,
A light for the world.
I'm chanting.
You said that the battle,
The victory,
It's not over an external force of evil or negativity but it's recognizing the negativity in the self.
So what kind of things would be like this?
What kind of things can I get victory over?
I can get victory over my attitudes to other people,
I can get victory over anger,
Anxiety,
Fear,
Hopelessness,
Depression,
Worry,
These kind of energies that come up in the self because I can understand that I am the light and I can teach myself not to be anxious,
I can teach myself not to worry and it's also teach myself not to react so quickly to other people that make me angry,
Make me defensive,
Make me want to prove myself right or whatever it is that's there.
You mentioned as well that I can bring that light into the world and sometimes it seems that you have to be quite advanced to be able to feel like you're able to be someone who brings great light into the world.
You have to be a real long-term intense meditation expert to be able to do that or can anybody even a beginner feel that they're sharing with the world?
Anyone can do this because all of us have these wonderful qualities inside and all of us if we want to practice meditation why do we want to practice meditation?
It's because there's something inside us that wants to be more calm and peaceful and there's something inside us that longing for harmony in relationships because it's our natural nature and that's what we would like to have but we didn't know how before but when I start to practice meditation I begin to see it's possible so even I begin to stop from reacting so much even I begin to not get angry if possible even I only get half ways angry and I stop myself it's a wonder it's amazing even if I talk to myself to not be anxious that is amazing and soothes my own energy so that I become more calm feel that everything is okay and when I know there are thousands and thousands of people doing this I'm not alone I have support all those energies are supporting the world they're supporting me as well I mean it's a it's a really good analogy like you know the lamp is made of clay and the flame is the living being so it's like the soul in the body and on one level that's really simple to understand but if you sit just even for a few minutes and really think about that it's totally incredible to think that the body is just made of matter but actually the living being is something else that I am not that's a call yeah because we're so used to just see it what we see in the mirror so how do you sort of carry on with normal life with this mind blowing information that you are consciousness that you're the soul I think you have to practice your meditation but also on top of this wonder we also have karmic accounts which means we have habits that are very quick and very fast and half the time you won't even know you're having the habit because it's become very natural the habit of displeasure annoyance fed up hopelessness what's the point this isn't working it can appear that things are not working because it's not instant and yet it is instant but to see the results I myself have to keep focusing and seeing that this actually is better than it used to be it is working okay good thank you okay so we'll do some meditation and we'll sit upright and focus on the center of our forehead and we'll see ourselves as the living light in the center of the forehead I am the soul the soul is a beautiful energy we are originally the most beautiful beings with thoughts that are the most beautiful thoughts and with energy that is supportive of the world and so Raja is saying go back to that this is what makes you happy content fulfilled courageous strong calm peaceful loving appreciative forgiving everything that we ever wished for is within I the soul the soul I am a being of living life energy in the center of my forehead I'm looking at my inner world and I'm making sure that I support my positive self and the one above reminds me of my true identity as a soul I am the light I am peace I am still silent steady strong a being of light a being of value to the entire world I am a soul I remain still and steady and steady peaceful with the awareness that I am the light the peace the beauty and I'm sending that vibration into the world and I remember the one above and that remembrance gives me the strength the steadiness to remain a light and peaceful and loving and content and powerful I am a soul a child of the one above so oh Om Chan Tu you you
