Hello,

This is A.

Le Fay of Sylvanosity and I wanted to take some time to talk to you about your thoughts about what if.

You know,

Particularly right before you're about to do something new,

You think,

What if?

And your mind runs over all the scenarios of what might happen if.

And sometimes those thoughts or worries can,

First of all,

Prevent you from relaxing and potentially falling asleep.

Also,

They can make you think of things that stress you out,

Turn your emotions into knots.

But really,

Really,

They could become something better.

Such as,

What about turning your what if into?

Couldn't that be great,

Stupendous,

Wonderful,

An opportunity to learn something new?

You see,

So much in life is not about what happens,

But how we respond to what happens.

The truth is,

What happens,

You can't really do a whole lot about.

I mean,

You could make choices.

You could think,

If I do A,

It will lead to B,

Which leads to C.

And if you make good choices,

A,

B,

And C could be something new,

Something exciting.

But the truth is,

A lot of what happens in our life,

We have no control over.

Our shoestring breaks,

Our pencil breaks,

Our teacher tells us there's going to be a pop quiz.

These things we really can't control.

But we can control how we react.

And oftentimes,

When we're waiting for something new to happen,

We think,

What if?

Yeah,

Like,

What if the teacher does have a pop quiz?

Well,

The reality is,

You can't change whether or not your teacher makes that decision.

But you can change how you react to said pop quiz.

Now,

Here's a little secret.

When you're taking a test,

If you worry about what might happen,

Your brain shrinks.

Honestly,

Truly,

I'm not lying.

It doesn't physically shrink.

That's true.

But your ability to get to the information inside your brain,

That shrinks a lot.

Now,

On the other hand,

If you go into a test or a pop quiz and say,

I can do this,

It opens your mind up,

Relaxes your thoughts,

So you can get to what you actually know.

So when you think about what might be,

Perhaps you should think about it in a positive way.

Because the more positive you are,

The more possibilities you can see.

And life really is full of possibilities.

Quick,

Look to your left,

Look to your right.

Do you see them?

Oh,

I do.

So many.

For instance,

To my left is a bookshelf full of wonderful books I could read,

Including a French dictionary.

Ooh,

Oui,

Oui.

Maybe I could learn some French.

To my right is art.

Ooh,

I love art.

The blank page is full of so many wonderful possibilities.

That you could bring out with a pen,

A pencil,

A paintbrush,

Colors.

Maybe you could make something out of clay.

That's fun.

I like that too.

You see,

Life is full of possibilities.

And oftentimes when we worry,

What if,

We're preventing ourselves from seeing those possibilities in a positive way.

So I invite you to look for the possibilities.

Put away the what ifs and bring out,

Wouldn't that be?

Because I can guarantee there are would-be's out there that you're going to love.

So the next time you're worried,

Whittle that worry down and ask yourself,

What would be great about that?

This has been a Le Fay of Sylvanosity,

And I hope this little talk has been helpful to you.

I know I've enjoyed it and I hope you'll join me again sometime soon.

Bye for now.
