I want to start off by just setting the tone of why and how.
So here you are,
Taking on an opportunity to investigate your experience and see what's really going on,
Because something in you has recognized a desire for more alignment with what is real and true,
What is sincere in your human experience,
And there has been a recognition of what seems like a disconnect,
Where you see there's a possibility,
A potential,
A truth,
And something in you feels a little distant from that,
And you also recognize that there's a great healing in there somewhere.
And there's one massive misunderstanding in the human experience that makes this way more difficult than it needs to be,
And that is the assumption about what we want.
As you've probably heard me talk about many times,
There's what we think we want on the surface,
And then there's a deeper longing,
A more sincere one.
And what we want on the surface is somehow like an image or a symbol of the deeper wanting.
Like if somebody says I want a billion dollars,
That's on the surface,
But underneath that,
If we ask why,
It's because I want to relax,
I want to be at peace.
And so often as we try and navigate this journey of awakening,
We become hypnotized by those images of what we think we want.
And here's the thing about what we soulfully crave,
What we more deeply want,
Is that it's so intrinsically tied to the truth of life,
Meaning that the more you see what's really true,
Then this inner experience that you crave is a natural byproduct.
And I say that so that we don't necessarily want the inner experience.
We don't necessarily want a particular feeling.
We want where all of that comes from,
Which is to see what's true.
And what I'm pointing to here is the opportunity to look at these 10,
000 wants,
I want to feel this way,
I want to experience this and that,
And to see that all of those things,
The sincerity of what you really crave is intimately tied to just seeing what's true.
And if we can focus on that rather than seeking or hoping or wanting for a particular feeling,
Then we can put all of our faith and trust in what's true.
It's so important to see that the only thing you really want is to see what's true.
And you see how in the mind,
There's that field of chaos that thinks it wants all these different things.
And all of those become little distractions where if you want those things,
Then it's like you want them more than you want to see what's true.
Which means as you investigate what's true,
You'll have these little blocks set up because it might jeopardize the thing you think you want on the surface.
Put it this way,
Like in a relationship,
If what you want in a relationship is a particular outcome,
Then everything your partner says gets filtered through an attempt to protect the outcome.
So if they're being honest and it seems to threaten your outcome,
Then you stop listening.
Do you see how that would happen?
Yeah.
And we kind of go into this sort of control slash manipulation mode where we then start wanting them to not feel how they feel,
Not think how they think,
And bring them back to protect our outcome.
And the real opportunity of depth of connection with another human being is to fully allow them to feel how they feel,
To allow them to have their experience.
Because it's only when you fully allow it,
Then you can truly listen.
Then you can truly hold space.
And here's the miraculous part about it,
Is that in the complete allowing,
There is an opportunity for the truth to be revealed,
And it's the truth that heals.
And this is what's so wild to me,
Is that,
You know,
The classic phrase,
The truth will set you free.
But so often we're afraid of the truth,
Because then we might not get what we want,
Right?
And so this time and these moments together are really a gentle invitation to,
If only for a moment,
Surrender everything that we think we want,
And just become,
Let's say,
A casual observer that's willing to see what's deeply true about the situation,
About life,
About being human.
And then in seeing that truth,
That is going to do whatever it needs to do in order to bring you back into an alignment.
And so this invites a profound trust in the truth.
It's almost like we've exhausted ourselves in the world,
Trying to make things how we think they should be,
Trying to control ourselves,
Trying to think we know what we need,
And what we start to recognize is,
Oh,
Wow,
It's only about the truth of things.
So I can let go of all of those efforts,
All of those attempts,
And I can just put all of my resources into an openness to see what's true.
You feel that?
Okay.
