We have many misconceptions about meditation, in this talk, I am trying to pass on the ancient wisdom from my Himalayan master which shared with me during my teenage during my early stages of meditation. One is when we fighting with the mind without knowing how the mind function and the second one is, we try to concentrate during meditation.

Hi,

I cannot meditate because so many thoughts in my mind and I cannot meditate because I can't concentrate.

My mind is keep moving from one place to another place and I don't think I can meditate because I don't experience that concentration.

I don't experience that the mind is slowing down.

I hope you understand what I'm talking.

I hope we all who have started meditation went through these challenges.

I totally understand you because when I started meditation at the age of 15 and started practicing yoga with my grandfather,

Now I'm 38,

It's a long journey.

I've been passed through those stages.

I was thinking I don't think I can meditate because so many thoughts in my mind and I cannot feel that concentration is getting better because mind is keep coming with new thoughts and this thinking about meditation continued until I meet my master and I asked the same question to my master when I was 19 years old.

Why I cannot meditate because my mind is so many thoughts and he smile and told me,

Who said you have to remove all the thoughts to meditate.

Why you fighting with these thoughts?

Why you fighting with the mind?

You have to be friend of your mind.

And that's a point,

It's a turning point for me in my meditation journey because I realized I understand what he's talking.

I was keep fighting with the mind and I was keep trying to get in concentration and he told me concentration is a gift from meditation.

It's a byproduct of the meditation but meditation is not a concentration technique.

When you meditate concentration comes as a byproduct.

And with the thoughts he asked me to think about a car and I thought and he asked is it the word appear car appear in your mind?

I said no.

Then what appear in your mind?

He asked.

I told a car appeared on my mind as a picture and he said that's great to know.

Now you understand how your mind function because mind functions in pictures.

It's not coming with words.

It coming as a visual all the time.

So that's the point,

That's the moment I realized yes.

So every time when thoughts comes it's coming as a visual because I was not aware about how the mind functions.

And he educate me,

He told me,

He asked me how is your heart functions?

I told it just beats and he asked me why don't you try to control your heartbeat?

He said I cannot because it's keep pumping its own rhythm.

And he said it's the same with the mind.

The heart function involuntary action.

The same the mind also is an involuntary action.

Heart is doing its own duty of pumping the blood.

Mind is doing its own duty creating thoughts.

Everything around us we see whether it's an airplane,

Whether it's a rocket,

Whether it's a mobile phone,

Whether it's a television,

Whether it's a laptop,

Any books,

Clothes,

Buildings,

Bridges,

Anything we see.

One day somebody thought to create it,

You know,

Create it.

Somebody's it was first came to someone's mind as a visual and then is putting into the paper then they drawing a picture then is building a building construction and it's become manifested as a building.

So it started in the mind.

So thought is very important in our life.

Just imagine one day you wake up there is no thoughts in your mind.

What will be like that?

Just imagine you wake up and looking at yourself in the mirror and there is no thought is there.

Can you imagine how you feel?

It's very strange.

There is nothing.

Nothing is coming to your mind how you feel.

So mind is your friend and we have to establish a friendship with our own mind.

It can be our enemy.

It can be a friend also.

So we have to build a friendship with our own mind.

It will help you to reach that quiet stateness,

The silence,

The inner silence,

The inner stillness.

It's only possible once you become friend once we become friend with our own mind and concentration comes as a byproduct.

Proper knowledge,

Proper system and consistency together.

We all can achieve that state of inner silence and stillness.

And I personally experience in my life and I'm sharing to many people,

Many students past a decade.

I hope you gain some knowledge through this and we will talk again continuing some meditation knowledge.

Let's practice together with proper understanding and proper ancient knowledge.

My name is Vishnu.

I am from India.

I started yoga at the age of 15 with my grandfather.

Now I'm 38.

It's a long journey.

I'm 38.

It's a long journey.

And I've been sharing with a lot of people.

Whatever I gain through my journey.

This is one reason why I'm taught,

Okay,

Let's share this wisdom to many people as much as possible.

Let help everybody to reach that state of inner silence and stillness.

So talk to you soon again.

Bye.
