In this talk, I share why your heart is always right and how ignoring it can make you feel stuck, sick, or empty. I’ll share real-life examples from my own journey, leaving Australia to travel the world, and learning to trust my heart in relationships. Together, we’ll reflect on how to recognise your heart’s whispers, nudges, and screams, and what happens when you don't listen. By the end, you’ll feel inspired to start following your own inner guidance with clarity and confidence.

Hi,

I'm Dr.

Kim.

Today I want to talk about something that we all struggle with,

The head and the heart.

I want to show you why your heart is always right and how ignoring it can actually make you sick,

Stuck or lost.

Let's begin with a simple yet profound exercise.

Close your eyes.

I'm going to ask you a simple question.

What do you love most about the city you live in?

For most people,

The answer will come in a word or picture.

Here is something important to understand.

You are the listener.

You are the one who receives the thoughts.

There is something else inside you,

A kind of inner operating system,

That produces images,

Ideas and words.

And then you,

The awareness,

Hears them.

This means you are not your thoughts.

And this becomes very important when we start talking about the difference between your head and your heart.

Feel free to ponder this point some more later.

Now let's move onto the head or the safety brain.

Your head is designed for one main job,

Keeping you alive.

It's ancient wiring buried deep in our genetics.

It wants certainty,

Predictability,

Logic and stability.

It does not care if you're fulfilled,

Aligned,

Inspired or growing.

It just wants you to survive.

Your head will happily keep you in a job you hate,

A city you've outgrown,

A relationship that feels wrong,

As long as you're safe.

And in a way,

That's beautiful.

Our nervous systems evolved to protect us.

But there is a cost.

Because when the head is running the show,

We end up building a life based on fear.

Every time your heart pulls you towards something new,

Your head interrupts with,

What if it goes wrong?

What if I fail?

What if I lose money?

What if people judge me?

So you listen.

You stay.

And this is how we slowly,

Quietly,

Gently abandon ourselves.

Now the heart,

That's a completely different intelligence.

The heart doesn't care about safety.

It cares about your soul,

Your alignment,

Your direction,

Your meaning,

Your expansion.

Your heart is your spiritual guidance system.

And it always speaks through your intuition.

But it speaks quietly.

At first it whispers,

Then it nudges,

Then it pulls.

And if you ignore it long enough,

It starts to scream.

A scream that often shows up as burnout,

Gut issues,

Insomnia,

Anxiety,

Depression,

That dead feeling inside,

A sense of being trapped,

Or a deep,

Deep sadness.

These symptoms aren't punishment.

They're guidance.

Your body saying,

You're not living the truth.

Let me give you an example from my own life.

I knew I wanted to leave Australia for at least 10 years.

The first whisper came when I was still in university.

I was running a beauty blog,

And I felt so excited,

Imagining it becoming big enough to let me travel the world.

But I didn't listen.

My head started to talk.

I shut down the blog.

I finished my studies,

And I became a chiropractor.

Every day,

Adjusting client after client,

There was a quiet ache in my chest,

A longing to leave that never went away.

My head said,

You have a great job.

You have amazing bosses.

You have a home.

You have friends and family.

You should be so grateful.

My heart said,

You're not meant to be here.

And because I kept choosing my head,

My body started breaking down.

Gut issues,

Terrible constipation,

Burnout every two months,

Insomnia.

My skin went crazy.

And the worst part,

I felt empty,

Like there was a hole inside me that nothing could fill.

Then came the turning point.

It was 2022.

I remember sitting there,

Depressed,

Exhausted,

Done.

And I asked myself one question.

What if I'm still here in five years?

The moment that question landed,

I didn't get a word or a vision.

Instead,

My entire body reacted.

A wave of dread hit my chest.

Everything tightened.

My breath shortened.

I felt like I was sinking,

Drowning in my own room.

My nervous system said,

No,

That is not an option.

That was the day the fear of staying became bigger than the fear of leaving.

Within 24 hours,

I had decided I was going to go.

I didn't have a plan,

But I made a promise to myself.

I will find a way.

And in that moment,

I swear I felt my heart smile a little,

Like it finally exhaled.

From there,

The path opened.

I found other digital nomads online.

I read their stories.

I saw teenagers living the life I wanted.

And once I knew it was possible,

The fear softened into relief,

And then into excitement over the course of a few months.

Not because I was brave,

Not because I had everything figured out,

But because my heart finally got loud enough and my body finally got tired enough that I couldn't ignore the truth anymore.

I quit my job,

Sold everything,

Moved my business online,

And left within the same year.

I traveled the world solo and eventually fell in love with Thailand.

And now I've been here for three years.

Another example,

One almost everyone relates to,

Is relationships.

You know that feeling when you know a relationship is wrong,

But you make a pros and cons list anyway.

You gather evidence,

You rationalize,

You convince yourself to stay.

They're a good person,

We get along,

It's not that bad.

I don't want to go back into the dating scene.

But your heart already knew,

It always knows.

And what happens when you ignore it and you stay?

It's the very same thing,

The emptiness.

You get sick,

You lose your glow,

Your joy,

Your beauty.

All of the things I mentioned previously.

Your body reflects the truth your heart has been trying to tell you.

Now I also think it's important to remember this.

Sometimes the heart leads you to something just so you can learn that it's not for you.

I was talking to a friend who had a beautiful example.

He was called very strongly to a certain popular plant medicine ceremony,

Twice.

Both invitations were synchronous.

Both were free for him,

Facilitated by close friends.

High quality medicine,

Perfect timing.

And both times he did the ceremony,

Nothing happened.

Not even with the highest dose.

He finally realized he was called to the ceremony not to receive some huge spiritual realizations.

But to hear the message,

This path is not for you.

That's guidance two.

This is the heart leading.

Every heart led choice is the right choice.

Whether it opens a door or closes one.

Here's the truth.

Your head keeps you safe.

Your heart keeps you aligned.

Your head keeps you alive.

Your heart keeps you awake.

Your head prevents danger.

Your heart leads you home.

And when you surrender to your heart's desires without needing a plan or a guarantee,

That's alignment.

That's when life starts to flow.

If you want to explore this more,

I have a heart coherence track here on Insight Timer called Open Your Heart.

It dives deeper into listening to your body and shifting into alignment.

Before we close,

I want to leave you with a few reflections.

Take a breath.

And ask yourself,

Where in my life am I using my head to override what my heart already knows?

Feel free to share in the comments if you are comfortable.

Your heart never stops speaking.

It's just waiting for you to listen.

And when you finally do,

Life can change very,

Very quickly.

Thank you for being here with me.

I hope this helped you remember the truth.

Your heart always knows the way.
