Welcome to your perfect day exercise.
This exercise was created for therapists,
Helpers,
And healers in private practice.
To help you clarify not just what you want your business to look like,
But how you want your life to feel day to day.
Together we'll walk through a visualization of a perfectly typical day.
Not a fantasy day,
But one where work,
Play,
And relationships are all integrated in a nourishing and sustainable.
After this exercise,
There is a worksheet that you can find in the Therapist Hub of Insight Timer to use.
This is a tool you can come back to again and again,
Especially when you feel stuck,
Overwhelmed,
Or you hit a major milestone,
Or go through a big life change.
The goal isn't to create a perfect day by some external standard.
We're here to help you design a day that reflects your values,
Energy,
And vision.
Sometimes this exercise can stir some things up.
You might hit against some circumstantial limitations.
For example,
If you're in a season with a newborn,
A perfect day may still include waking up at 3am,
But maybe waking up with some more gentleness and support.
You might find future longing.
Maybe your perfect day includes a partner and you're currently single.
That's okay.
Imagine what's possible while honoring your now.
You might also find old programming,
Messages from family of origin,
Culture,
School,
Community whispering that you're supposed to work 50 hours a week or you can't have that.
We call this family of origin BS,
Foobs.
You get to decide which beliefs still serve you and which ones it's time to lovingly retire.
Also be mindful of minimizing your dream.
If you say your perfect day includes 20 clients a week,
Really challenge yourself.
Is that the number that brings you joy and fulfillment?
Or is it just what you think you're supposed to want?
This is a time to dream,
Not settle.
So give yourself a few moments to be honest and curious.
And if you're co-creating life with others,
You might choose to share what comes up with you in this exercise with your partner or your loved ones.
And then you can see where your visions align.
So let's get started.
Take a moment to find a quiet,
Comfortable space,
Closing your eyes if that feels good,
Taking a deep breath in and out,
Continuing with that pattern in and out through the mouth with a sigh,
One more time in through the nose,
Out through the mouth,
Letting your breath return to its normal rate and rhythm.
Just taking a moment and tapping into your heart,
Asking it to open and to soften to possibilities,
Asking your mind to just suspend disbelief for a moment,
Asking your body for its presence during this exercise and calling in your spirit,
Welcoming its creativity as it shows you what you seek to create.
Breathing that in,
Now imagine yourself waking up in your perfectly typical day,
A day that includes work,
Rest,
Joy,
Connection.
Let's start at the beginning of the day.
What time do you wake up?
When you wake up and you look around the room,
Where are you?
What do you see,
Hear,
Smell,
Or taste?
How does your body feel?
What's your first movement or action?
Is there anyone there with you?
What is your morning rhythm like?
Just taking time to dream without judgment,
Without disbelief.
After your morning,
You're moving into the afternoon.
What are you doing with this time?
How are you nourishing yourself physically,
Emotionally,
And spiritually?
Who are you spending time with?
Who are you talking to?
Who are you connecting to?
Notice when you decide to step into your work.
How does it feel in your energy,
Your body,
Your heart?
How many clients are you seeing,
If any?
What kind of work are you doing with them?
Where are you doing this work?
What does that space feel like to you?
How do you feel before,
During,
And after each session?
How do the clients respond to working with you?
What are the types of transformation that you are seeing?
Taking some time to dream,
Allowing your spirit to show you what your craft,
Your work can look like.
As you move into the rest of your day,
When do you stop working?
How do you transition back into your life?
How are your energy levels throughout the day?
What are you doing that feels like play or joy?
As the day winds down,
How do you transition into the evening?
Is there a routine or ritual?
How do you connect with yourself,
Others,
Nature,
Or spirit?
As you reflect on your perfect,
Typical day,
What do you feel proud of?
What do you feel grateful for?
Then as you prepare for bed,
Notice what time it is.
Notice what you do with your time to wind down.
Notice how your body feels.
What your mind is showing you with its thoughts.
What emotions fill your heart.
How your spirit feels as it has created today.
What helps you sleep deeply and wake up restored.
Breathing that in.
Taking a few moments to reflect on a full day of life and work,
Of connection with self and others.
Exhaling fully on this last breath here.
Thank your inner wisdom for showing you what's possible.
Now it's time to translate this vision into words.
Go to your worksheet and jot down what stood out to you.
Linger in those details.
Who you're with,
The pace of your day,
How your body feels,
What lights you up.
You might be surprised,
You might be delighted,
You might be terrified,
Whatever surfaces honor it.
And then ask yourself,
What's one small thing I can do differently today to move closer to this vision?
And know that once you reach your version of a perfectly typical day,
You get to revisit this again and again and ask,
What more can I create?
Thanks for being here.
