Sometimes,
Before your eyes are even fully open,
Your mind might already be racing.
Maybe that thing you fell asleep thinking about is already greeting you.
Or maybe your to-do list is hovering before you even leave the bed.
When that happens,
Your body gets the message to start the day from a place of tension.
These five breaths are something you can keep in your back pocket,
A way to invite relief and release and to soften the tension in your body that's sending signals right back to your mind.
We don't have to fix anything right now.
We're just going to loosen the grip.
You can stay in whatever position you woke up in.
No need to move or rearrange unless you want to.
If you prefer to sit upright with some pillows supporting you,
Go ahead.
There's no right way,
Just what feels most comfortable.
We'll take five slow,
Intentional breaths together.
In between,
Just breathe naturally and listen.
Sometimes,
It helps to give your mind something gentle to focus on.
If it feels helpful,
You might picture a soft white light or a rainbow of calming colors flowing in with the inhale and something dark or heavy leaving your body on the exhale.
You don't have to visualize anything,
Just an option if it helps anchor your focus.
Let's begin.
Breathe in and as you exhale,
Begin to loosen the tightness in your hands.
Let them soften and feel weightless.
If it feels good,
Place them gently on your chest or belly to rest.
Nice and easy.
Breathe in and as you exhale,
Slowly soften the area around your eyes.
Relax the space between your eyebrows.
Allow your eyelids to just rest heavy and calm.
You're doing just fine.
Breathe in and as you exhale,
Let go of any clenching in your belly.
Soften your abdomen.
Allow the breath to move deeper now with more ease.
Feel the tension melting away.
Breathe in again.
And as you exhale,
Release the tension in your shoulders.
Let them drop away from your ears.
Imagine the muscles along the sides and back of your neck receiving a gentle mental massage.
Good.
Let it all go.
Breathe in and as you exhale,
Allow whatever weight you woke up with to float away,
Even just a little.
You don't have to figure everything out right now,
Especially not first thing in the morning.
You're safe here.
Before you move on,
Give yourself a few moments to stretch.
Move gently if that feels good.
Maybe take a sip of water or go tackle that first cup of coffee.
You've already taken a moment for yourself.
That counts.
I wish you a peaceful day.
