In this talk in meditation we're going to explore the earth element and how it lives within you and then we'll do a meditation where we'll allow energy flow and healing within the chakra that the earth element inhabits which is the root chakra.
I'm coming specifically from the Tibetan Buddhist tradition which I know may differ slightly from other traditions.
I don't want us to get caught in details.
What's actually much more important than the visualization is your connection to your body and the felt experience within you.
The nature of earth within you is that sense of groundedness that can feel very steady and give you a sense of security and support,
A sense of safety and comfort.
It can feel very enriching.
Earth has its own deep rhythms,
A sense of depth.
It's connected to being practical and ordered.
When our earth element is balanced we can feel very stable,
Steady,
Grounded and confident.
When we have an excess of earth energy within us we can feel heavy,
Stuck,
Burdened by responsibility.
We can feel lacking in inspiration and passion,
Dull maybe even depressed.
Sometimes we may need water or fire in our systems to get things sparked up and flowing and moving again.
If we have a lack of earth energy within us we can feel a bit ungrounded with lots of thinking going on and uncontrollable excitement.
We can feel unsettled and unstable and the energy in us can feel very upward moving in your body,
Almost restless.
You could feel that there's a lack of order and structure in your life.
So can you get a sense of how the earth element lives within you?
Maybe you really resonate with it,
Maybe you feel like you have too much of it or maybe you feel like you need more earth energy.
However it is within you it's perfectly fine just as it is.
Just notice what you feel,
Allow it to be and give it space to come alive and to heal.
In the Tibetan tradition the earth element abides within the root chakra.
Its color is golden yellow.
In the meditation we'll go through the stages of deepening into ourselves,
Relaxing and grounding,
Connecting to our body.
I like to give you space to really be with your own experience.
So when you hear spaces of silence,
Use that space to really drop into your own experience and feel what is happening for you.
We will then connect to our root chakra and get a sense of the feelings and sensations within it,
Giving it space.
We'll then bring in the color golden yellow and we'll allow it to expand,
Cleanse and heal and to resonate at its ideal frequency.
Instead of silent spaces here I will gently play my root chakra crystal bowl.
As you hear it,
Let the resonance support you to allow a softening,
An opening and a healing of your root chakra.
So before we start,
Find yourself somewhere comfortable to be.
You can be seated on a meditation cushion,
You can be sitting on a chair,
As long as you're comfortable and your body can relax.
It's good to sit with your back straight and tall with fresh air coming in your lungs,
But don't be too rigid.
Allow a sense of movement within.
Let's start by bringing your awareness to your breath.
Awareness of breath within your body.
Become aware of the feelings and sensations of your lungs,
Ribs and abdomen,
Rising and falling with each breath.
And as you relax there,
Really be inquisitive of the feelings and sensations with each in-breath and each out-breath.
Take part of your awareness into the ground of your being.
The feelings and sensations of the ground or cushion pushing up from below you,
Supporting you.
The feeling and sensations of the weight of your legs or your pelvic floor.
And really allow your whole body to relax down into that sense of ground supporting you,
Holding you.
If you get distracted at any point,
Don't worry.
There's no need to judge yourself.
There's no need to push it away or try to stop it.
Just allow the distraction to arise and move through and evaporate on its own.
And then gently bring your awareness back to your breath,
Back into feelings and sensations within your body.
And then relax back down into your ground again.
As you relax into that sense of ground,
Bring your awareness up into the trunk of your body and notice any feelings and sensations within your trunk.
Whatever is there,
Give it space and allow it to be as it is.
Move as it needs to move.
As you relax and breathe.
Allow your awareness to expand to the rest of your body.
Back down into your legs,
Out to your arms,
Your neck,
Your head.
Until you become aware of feelings and sensations within your whole body.
As you relax.
If you feel yourself trying too hard or if you're distracted again,
You may notice some kind of holding or contraction within your body.
If you notice this,
Allow that part of your body to gently let go and relax again.
And gently bring your awareness back to your breath.
And then relax back down into your ground and allow your awareness to expand to feelings and sensations within your whole body.
As you rest within that space,
Bring your awareness now to your root chakra.
The root chakra can be felt somewhere at the root of your torso,
At the base of your spine,
Just in front of your coccyx.
It doesn't need to be the precise spot.
Just bring your awareness to that area and notice any feelings and sensations around there.
You become aware of a small radiant drop of golden yellow light within your root chakra.
Allow that drop of light to radiate out,
Filling your body with feelings of groundedness,
Steadiness,
Safety.
Then allow that light to gently,
Softly evaporate.
Leaving your body filled with a sense of groundedness and safety,
A sense of being held and protected.
As we finish this meditation,
You're left with a radiant drop of golden yellow light,
Resting and radiating in your root chakra.
At any point in your day,
If you feel like you really need that sense of groundedness and steadiness,
Remember that you have this energy and the golden yellow pearl of light within you at all times.
You can just connect to it and allow its radiance to shine,
Helping you to feel grounded and supported.
The earth element is one of five elements that lives within your inner and outer worlds.
The other elements are air,
Water,
Fire and space.
And there's a very natural dynamic play of the elements within you.
Some are very alive within us and we have a strong connection to,
And others we may feel we have a lack of.
If you're interested and you'd like to learn more about how each element lives within you and the dynamic play between them,
