This poem, Yoga of Suffering, is a lying-down meditation for helping to connect the mind and body. By allowing the words to sink in as well as using the moments of silence between to notice how it feels in your body, this poem is an invitation to open, even very slightly, to trust and surrender. When the suffering comes,

Open up just 1% more than you have before.

Trust that your body knows what to do.

If she says lie down,

Lie down.

But learn the lying down-ness of lying down.

Not a prone position for more shame and self-hatred.

Not a different physical structure for the same emotional shape.

Not unfolded on the outside,

But still corrugated on the inside.

Breathe.

Lying down fully,

Stretch the shame and guilt and sadness like dough.

Allow your intention for transformation to soak the dehydrated pain.

Allow your breath to process the acid and alkaline.

Feed the sweetness.

Allow surrender to leaven.

Inhale.

Exhale.

Allow the air bubbles to form in slow motion.

Breaking down the raw ingredients of life.

Reforming them into experience.

Disintegrate.

Reintegrate.

Pain is a raising agent.

Suffering is leavening.

An invitation to lie down.

And then,

To rise.

Namaste.
