A lovely meditation to do before opening into a meaningful project where you would benefit from feeling unburdened. This is a 14-minute cord-cutting visualization that begins with physical body softening, checking in with your heart, and then opens into the process of releasing unwanted cords, connections, and tethers. This was recorded live at an opening circle of a retreat. May it serve you well.

Close your eyes.

Allow yourself to land here.

Take a full breath in and as you exhale,

Feel yourself in the room that you're in.

And taking a breath in,

Notice the temperature of the room that you're in.

And then with your next breath in,

Can you send your focus from the room that you're in into your physical body?

Could you relax your physical body and soften?

Soften your shoulders.

Soften your neck.

Your beautiful,

Capable,

Healing neck.

Soften your chest.

Can you feel the weight that's been present there lately?

Soften your back body.

Relax into your hips.

Resisting the urge to fidget,

Wiggle and wriggle and stepping into mastering the body.

Allowing yourself to find physical stillness so that you may find spacious,

Mental peacefulness.

Checking in with the space of the heart.

How is your heart today in this moment?

Can you acknowledge all of the thoughts,

All the feelings that have run through your heart in preparation for this day,

For this weekend,

For this moment?

And if you're already having a release,

Don't hold back,

Just let it happen.

Sometimes just looking at the heart is so much information.

Now,

Can you begin to notice any connections,

Any cords,

Any tethers going out from your body connected to something else?

Another person,

Another thought,

A particular event in your life?

Where have you been placing your attention lately?

See them all as cords going out from your body and taking stock.

Has it been a lot?

Or are there those tried-and-true cords that you thought would be there?

And they certainly are.

Take a breath in as you exhale,

Relax further into this moment.

There is literally no tension in your body.

As you exhale,

Relax further into this moment.

There is literally nowhere else to be but here,

Nothing else to do but this.

Now,

Imagine that you look down into your hand and you see the most beautiful pair of golden scissors.

And you take them and begin to cut these cords from your body.

If scissors feels too severe,

Maybe you simply touch them and they fall away.

So much of meditation is mental imagination exercises.

So,

Let your imagination activate and craft the story within.

You always have permission to go with the first thought,

The first feeling,

The first sensation.

Take a breath in.

And as you exhale,

See,

Sense,

Feel,

Or know where the cords are and begin to cut them so that you may be free enough to enter into your work this weekend.

If the cord is going to someone who is a present player in your story,

And if the cord is quite thick with that person,

You may need to ask their permission energetically to cut the cord.

Sometimes they need a hug.

Sometimes they might want to hold the scissors to cut it from their body.

Sometimes they need a hug.

Sometimes they might want to hold the scissors to cut it from their end.

And you also cut it from your end.

And if they don't give permission,

That's okay.

You are still able to cut the cord from your end.

And then like a balloon,

You can give that person space to float out beyond your field.

It's up to them if they want to keep the cord tethered to themselves.

But you cut it from your side and begin to see all the things that you're cutting extend out past your field.

You're creating space for your intentions to be realized.

With every cord that's cut,

See the place where it was on your body and offer a loving touch in your mind's eye and your imagination to smooth the space where it lived from you.

Take a breath.

Exhale,

Sink in a little deeper.

Just giving yourself permission to land here to do this.

Trust that you'll remember whatever you need to remember from the meditation and just stay in your space with your eyes closed and your body relaxed.

If there are any other bits of information that's been drawing your attention,

Allow it to be seen and to simply walk outside of your field.

It's like a nice way to say kick it to the curb,

Get out of your space.

And then turn your attention to yourself.

And notice what you look and feel like.

When you are untethered.

Does it feel like home or perhaps it feels like a strange emptiness?

Don't worry,

You'll refill with you.

Thank yourself for showing up for yourself.

Allow yourself to take yourself seriously and offer grace to move through this weekend,

These meditations,

And this process in ways that feel really loving to you and in support of your intentions for what this healing space will do.

And when you're ready,

Give yourself a gentle bow from the inside,

An acknowledgement.

Take a series of breaths,

Slow and long.

Slow and long.

And then when you're ready,

You can open your eyes.
