This guided Yoga Nidra explores Aparigraha—the yogic principle of non-hoarding. As you settle into deep rest, you’ll be invited to release the need to grasp or accumulate, whether it’s possessions, thoughts, or expectations. Through gentle awareness and visualisation, this practice helps you return to simplicity, spaciousness, and the quiet truth that you already are enough.

Hello everybody and thank you for joining me for this yoga nidra session.

Today as part of the meditative journey through the eight limbs of yoga,

We're looking at the last of the Yamas,

Which is Apigraha.

And literally this means non-whoring.

So from a practical sense,

It's clinging on to things that possess us,

Our possessions.

And if you think about that word,

It has fairly negative connotations,

Doesn't it?

Possessions.

There's nothing wrong with having some wonderful,

Beautiful things in your life,

Of course.

But really,

As we all know,

The truth is about only needing what we need,

And taking what we need,

And nothing more.

And then cherishing those things that are special to us.

So you are enough and you don't need stuff to make you feel better.

The modern world,

Its materialistic perspective is saying to us that we need more constantly to feel something within ourselves.

And this is the practice of Apigraha,

His understanding that is not the truth.

The truth lies within knowing that you're enough and only taking what you need.

So with that small introduction,

I would like you to lie down in the posture of Shivasana.

And here we are invited to make ourselves comfortable and easy.

Let go of all that's happened to you today.

And some of the stuff,

Some of the thoughts that you will have accumulated,

Do you really need them?

And we all know that wonderful feeling that we get from cleaning out a cupboard,

Or cleaning out a shed,

Or something like that.

Letting go of stuff,

Of possessions that we no longer use.

So let's see if we can do that in our practice today.

Letting go of the stuff we no longer need.

And allowing the stuff that we have not to possess us.

So when we come to a Yoga Nidra practice,

The first things that we do is set a Sankalpa.

And the Sankalpa is something that you need to manifest in your life.

So if you're working with one,

Let's just stick with that.

And if you want to move through to using one that perhaps serves you well with this practice,

Something like,

I am enough.

I don't need more stuff in my life.

I have abundance.

I am happy with the person I am.

And with that,

That's going to give you a great deal of freedom to choose.

So set your Sankalpa.

Say it in the present tense.

Bring it to mind,

Repeat three times and simply let go.

Just let go.

And then we're going to take the mind through the body.

Let's just feel how the body is.

Moving our awareness slowly throughout the body.

Starting with the soles of the feet.

Feel the soles of your feet.

Feel the toes.

Feel the spaces between the toes.

Feel the top of your foot.

And the ankle bones.

Feel how your feet fall open as you relax into this.

Letting go.

Allowing the body to relax.

The back of the legs.

Soft.

Soft and easy.

Backside.

The base of the spine.

The middle of the spine.

Top of the spine.

The whole spine together.

The whole spine together.

The back of the shoulder blades.

The back of the head.

The muscles in the jaw.

Letting go of any tension.

Letting go of any clinging thoughts.

Letting go of any clinging sensations.

Melting.

And understanding.

The front of your body.

The pelvis.

The top of the legs.

All the fingers together.

The toes.

The spaces in between the fingers.

The palms.

Even the nails.

Feeling into your body.

Feeling into your body.

There's nothing you need here.

Nothing that you need.

Understanding you're enough.

You are enough.

Being grateful for the things you have received.

Letting go of stuff you no longer need.

Not collecting for the sake of it.

Letting go of your possessions.

Feel the breath.

Soft and easy.

Soft and easy.

Belly rise and belly fall.

Belly rise and belly fall.

Much deeper with the breath.

Coming down with the breath.

Coming down with the breath.

Deeper and deeper.

Bring the number 27 to mind.

Breathe in 27.

Breathe out 27.

Breathe in 26.

Breathe in 25.

Breathe out 25.

Keep the count going in that manner.

All the way down to zero.

All the way down to zero.

In your own time.

And if you happen to lose the count,

Simply come back to the number 27 and start again.

Just simply start again.

I'll leave you with that for a little while.

Just counting the body down.

Feeling the breath.

And getting deeper each time.

Deeper and deeper.

In touch with your essence.

Of who you are.

Knowing there's nothing you need.

There's nothing you need.

Let go of the count.

And be aware of the breath.

Just simply watch the body breathing.

Watching the body breathing.

Pure awareness.

You have everything you need.

Everything you need.

Pure awareness.

Imagine the excitement of buying something new.

Excited about the prospect.

Excited about the purchase.

Only to realize you didn't need it anyway.

It was disappointing.

And it's now in the cupboard.

Gathering dust.

Not necessary.

Recognize how fleeting the moment of pleasure was.

You are enough.

You are enough.

A feeling of warmth throughout the body.

A feeling of warmth throughout the body.

And now a feeling of cold.

Just imagine being cold.

Cold.

And then once again imagine being warm.

We're going from warm to cold.

And back to warm.

Beautifully warm.

Black and white.

See things black and see things white.

Black and white.

Black and white.

Take your physical eyes and gently gaze in your third eye.

Gently gaze in your third eye.

And visualize all the things you have that you don't use.

There might be clothes.

Might be tools.

Might be old games or old books perhaps.

Any clutter that you have in your house.

See the clutter.

And now see it clean and tidy.

Clean and tidy.

No clutter.

Minimalize your life.

No clutter.

No clutter.

Sitting by the ocean.

Waves lapping at the beat.

Feeling a sense of wholeness.

A sense of wholeness.

At one,

At peace,

On the beat.

Nothing to buy.

Nothing to store.

Nothing to collect.

Just you and the beauty of nature.

Staring out at the ocean.

Way,

Way over to the horizon.

The sun is setting.

The darkness is gathering.

The stars are coming out.

It's a beautiful warm evening.

The sky is filled with stars.

The abundance of our lives.

The abundance of nature.

The abundance of the universe we're part of.

Feel at one with that.

Feel at one with that.

Lying on the sand.

Looking up into the starry night.

Your loved ones are with you.

A feeling of pure bliss.

Pure love.

Pure love.

You are enough.

You are enough.

Be there.

Stay with that.

Stay with that.

In that space,

Reintroduce your sankalpa.

Exactly the same as you said at the beginning of the practice.

Repeat it three times and simply let go.

We've planted this seed in your subconscious mind.

The bed is one of gratitude.

The fertilizer and water is belief.

Simply believe and allow this to grow and manifest in your life.

Allow it to manifest in your life.

All you have to do is believe.

Rest in that knowledge.

Rest in that knowledge.

Slowly start to take some deeper breaths into the body.

Controlling the breath.

And gently coming back.

Gently coming back to this space and time.

Making some small movements.

And gently coming back.

You are of course welcome to stay exactly where you are if you wish.

However,

If you have the rest of your day to get on with,

Then we're going to make some bigger movement.

Wake the body up.

Perhaps you would like to whirl onto one side or the other.

And a little ball coming back to this space and time.

Slowly rolling yourself up into a seated posture.

Bring the hands into namaskar.

Prayer pose in front of the heart space.

Bow your head.

Namaste.

The practice of yoga nidra is finished.

Have an absolute fabulous day.

Declutter your lives.

Live simply.

Live with love.

May we have love in our hearts.

Truth in the speech.

And gratitude in the mind.

Until we get it,

Meet again.

Much love.

Needed this to help work on my grasping tendency. Ruminating over a jumper I have given to charity. My intention was to share warmth with those that need it. I have a lot of jumpers. Will listen again to keep working on my attachment to things. Thank you for your meditation. X
