Join this meditation geared for those who have difficulty sleeping due to some hard truths around sleeping. In this meditation I make some suggestions as to perhaps why you are unable to fall asleep or stay asleep. I personally have used these concepts on myself and I was instantly able to sleep better. I think pinpointing the issues head on might assist in getting better quality and quantity of sleep.

I'm sorry you're having some problems with sleeping tonight.

I thought I could offer some thoughts that might help you think about maybe why that is.

It's okay to feel if you're hanging on to being awake,

Even though you know it's time to sleep.

It's okay if the reason is because maybe you're not ready to let go.

It's also okay to feel frustrated because maybe you don't even know why you can't sleep tonight.

You've been working hard accomplishing tasks all day.

You're used to knowing what's going to happen next.

Maybe you feel like sleeping is vulnerable.

Being asleep means being unconscious,

And it's hard when you don't know when you might wake up or what you might dream about.

Maybe take a moment to accept how hard it is to be unconscious for hours every single day.

Remind yourself that your bed and your home is a safe space that you've created for yourself.

Nothing can harm you here.

You have created this space so that you can safely let go and rest like all people do every single day.

Or maybe it's difficult to disconnect from the world and simply put your phone away.

This means being alone in your thoughts,

And sometimes that's harder than maintaining the connections you have with others through your phone.

Take this time to know that the connections can begin again the moment you wake up.

Give yourself this time for a break,

Trusting they will be there for you again in the morning.

It's also okay if you have a hard time with self-care.

Getting enough sleep might feel like an unnecessary luxury or a boundary with your tasks that you're not willing to set.

Maybe deep down,

You feel like you don't deserve to be comfortable.

So it's very easy to not prioritize sleeping when there are other things that might be more important to you.

Understand that sleeping is necessary for every single person.

Everyone deserves to feel comfortable throughout the day.

In fact,

Getting enough sleep will enhance your productivity.

It will help your mind be more focused and alert.

It will help your body be more active and capable.

It will help your mood be more calm and positive.

Know that sleeping is a tool to be a more powerful version of you tomorrow.

I invite you to sit in these feelings of loss of control that you might feel.

Sit with the feelings of disconnection.

Sit with the resistance to caring for yourself.

Know that despite these barriers,

This is a part of your day that will always be necessary.

You will be here again tomorrow and every single day for the rest of your life.

So I invite you to embrace tonight's unique journey today,

And this is now your purpose.

It is that time again.

You are here in this bed for a specific purpose,

And let yourself let go.

After lying awake for a long time I fell asleep in just a minute or two. I’m so grateful and will come back to this meditation often.
