We also are noticing how the mind can settle.
If we focus our awareness onto our breathing,
We are giving our minds a rest and we can be present with the physical body and all its parts.
We're going to get ready for toning the OM in the traditional way.
Also we just want to pay or give a little bit of respect towards that sound that inherits all sounds.
Every sound that we can possibly imagine.
If you now open your ears and wherever you are,
Recognize the sounds around you,
Imagine the sounds or the sounds you've ever heard from fridges to mowers to animals to humans.
All those sounds are sucked in to the OM,
The one sound,
Which is a very sacred sound in India.
So we want to try and pursue to work with the OM sound in a way that can really unfold something within us that we might not have yet discovered in our voices.
So let's try to start.
What we want to do,
We want to have a relaxed attitude in our bodies and also in our faces.
We're going to breathe in and we're going to go straight into the OM.
So we don't want to bend or mean into the sound.
We want to create a straight sound.
I'm going to give a little example.
I'm breathing in.
So I went straight into the OM.
I didn't do I went straight into the OM and then after a while,
And you will find out when that will be.
It will come naturally to you the more you practice the OM.
We have the moment of opening and nasaling,
Opening the sound and nasaling.
If you look,
Excuse me,
If you look at the Sanskrit letter OM,
Everybody knows that sign with the half moon and the dot on top of the half moon.
The dot means nasaling in Sanskrit.
So we start to nasal at one point and then possibly 10% or 15% of your sound at the end will be the closing of the lips,
The M.
So we're going to do a couple of OM's and just be aware that when we start this practice,
It's really about repetition.
So if we do this every day,
New things will unfold.
So let's start and we're going to practice a few OM's together.
Breathing in.
OM.
OM.
OM.
OM.
OM.
Let's do one more.
OM.
Let's take a deep breath and out.
So we're going to do a few more OM's and I want you just to notice and again just to discover your comfort and your discomfort and maybe where things are changing in our body the more we repeat the OM.
What is changing in the voice?
Am I having my vocal cords relaxed?
Do I get a better understanding about the vocal cords and how to perceive them?
So there's a lot we can sense and experience while we are doing the OM.
Also if we squeeze and relax the pelvic floor muscle while we are sounding the OM,
It will connect us to our inner anatomy,
To our sacred anatomy.
And also we have learned to work with our pioneer glands so you might find yourself naturally tuning into your sixth chakra or maybe the heart area,
You sense the heart area opening up.
So whatever it is,
We just become more aware.
We have the invitation to become more aware of what's going on in our bodies.
So this exercise really helps to clear our minds.
It's a beautiful warm-up exercise and the more we do this,
The more we also become aware of our mouth,
What's happening in our mouth,
How is the tongue involved in creating or co-creating sound,
What happens when we move our tongue slightly,
Especially in the OM when we are coming to the nasal part,
What's happening to your tongue?
So instead of just OMing a little bit,
OMing around a little bit,
If we become aware of the physical action that's happening,
It's very subtle but there's something happening in your mouth,
Then we can start to play with that,
We can start to experience.
Also with the OM we're going to train our ears.
Maybe we hear the overtones,
And maybe not just the overtones,
Maybe we can really significantly hear each note of the scale.
All of this comes through practice.
So let's do a few more OMs together and try to relax your mind,
Not try to become too mental about it and try to experience something.
Just stay open to whatever you're experiencing.
So let's breathe in and begin.
Ooh Ahm.
Ooh Ahm.
Ooh Ahm.
Ooh Ahm.
Ooh Ahm.
Ooh Ahm.
Let's do one more.
Ooh Ahm.
Let's take a breath in and out.
So as you might have noticed,
I've changed my pitch a little bit.
So that's also something you want to discover.
Maybe the higher pitch or lower pitch feels more comfortable.
So it's really about you finding your note,
The comfortable note within yourself in order to do this exercise.
And again,
The more we repeat,
The more we will notice,
Oh,
This one OM really felt good.
The next one,
Maybe there was a little bit of struggle or tension.
So we want to experience the comfortable OMs and where everything just flows naturally.
After trying to apply all the techniques of how to do this,
We do,
We'll find ourselves naturally OMing.
And when that happens,
Then we can move into the next aspect of OMing where we naturally open to the mystery of sound.
We might feel the invitation from our higher self to send a prayer,
Be intentive while we are OMing.
Feeling,
Having a sense of loving kindness for ourselves and the world.
Whatever's coming naturally as a prayer,
That's something really interesting to discover.
Enjoy your practice.
