A Majority Of Our Thoughts Are Negative And Repetitive - Stay Lucid And Conscious
by Boom Shikha
Most of our thoughts are negative and repetitive. That means we are having the same negative thoughts day in and day out, day after day. No wonder most of us get stuck into patterns and never get out of them. Photo by Nathan Dumlao on Unsplash

Hello everyone!
I hope that you're doing amazing wherever you are in the world.
My name is Boomshakha and I welcome you to my channel.
As always I'm so grateful that you're listening,
Subscribing and commenting.
I really appreciate the support.
And in this video I want to speak to you a little bit more about meditation and about thinking and negative thinking and things like that.
Recently I started doing a new practice where I have this alarm that goes off every R on the R.
It's a mindfulness app basically and you just kind of like rings every R and it reminds me whenever it rings to stop for a second and pay attention to what I was thinking.
A lot of cases I'm actually just working so I'm not actually even thinking about anything I'm just kind of typing away and thinking about my work so it's okay.
But sometimes it rings or dings and all of a sudden I realize I'm thinking about something right and I'm basically just ruminating about something or deeply mired into this nonsensical thought that repeats itself over and over again in my head over and over and over again with no resolution at all right.
And so it's actually been extremely enlightening for me and that's the reason I want to share it with you because it's a really easy thing to do.
Anyone can do it.
Everyone has a smartphone and it's always next to you.
I can assure you of that.
I'm sure of it.
And so basically just have the mindfulness app.
There's many of them you can just get any mindfulness app that beeps or dings or whatever or plays a bell every R on the R or every 15 minutes however you want to do it.
Doesn't matter the time itself but as soon as it dings you stop whatever you're doing unless you're driving obviously and I mean when you're driving you could just stop anyways your thought process.
And you stop for a second and you notice what was the thought that was going on in your head at that moment in time.
The point of it is not to do it for a day or two but to do it at least for a week or so maybe even two weeks would be ideal because it will kind of give you a pattern of your thoughts and your thinking process.
You know how does it go?
What do you think about mostly?
What kind of thoughts are constantly in your head?
What are the things that you're constantly thinking about?
What patterns do you have in your thinking right?
And if you've heard of the stat you probably know that 80% of our thoughts are negative in general unless you meditate or unless you're extremely mindful and you take care of your thought processes which most of us do not.
80% of our thoughts are negative which is a really high amount actually some of them even say up to 90% of our thoughts can be negative if you're an extremely negative person it can be even higher and so that is a lot of negative thoughts in the day and if you have 50,
000 thoughts a day which is the average then that's 40,
000 negative thoughts in a single day that you're sitting around thinking over and over again.
More importantly though 95% of thoughts according to stat now I'm not an expert but that's what the stat says 90% of the thoughts 90 to 95% around that are thoughts that we've already had our repetitive thoughts our repetitive thoughts that means that we have these thoughts every single day as if by clockwork we wake up in the morning and it's exact same thing over and over again it's like being in the matrix you think that you're living a different life every single day but you're not you're in the same place doing the same thing thinking the same things having the same conversations and you think that you're living a different life every single day but you're not really right it's so scary to even think about it you you think that you need to be in the matrix no you're actually actually already in the matrix of your thoughts your negative repetitive thoughts right and so it's fascinating because I noticed for myself was that yeah I literally every single time that del dinged I was like ah right I'm thinking about the same thing and the two or three things I constantly thought about constantly is work obviously constantly think about okay what am I going to do next what's gonna come up next what am I going to do next week or next month what are my goals constantly thinking about this over and over again right repetitively as if that's gonna change anything what's the point the other thing that I thought about a lot was going back to check my you know I'm like oh when do I get to go back to check my what am I gonna do when I get to check my and so of course that's that's not something that repeats has been repeating for the last few months but doesn't necessarily all happen all the time or maybe it does I'll have to watch that and of course the third repetitive thought that happens a lot is thoughts about my family right so anxious thoughts about my family are they okay things like that especially when I'm far away from them I think about them a lot when I'm here I'm also thinking about them because you know we might have had some conversations that came up and so that causes me to have repetitive thoughts about that now as I said please if you have the time or the patience or the inclination do this experiment on yourself because as I said it'll be so enlightening because all of a sudden you realize yeah you know you assume oh no I'm not I don't think about the same things over and over again no I'm different everyone thinks that and then you actually do this experiment on yourself and you realize wow I think the same things over and over again I am NOT a creative person at all I am a boring person who thinks about the same things over and over again and I can't believe that I thought that I was a creative human being that I was a unique creative being I was not right now again I'm not saying this because I want to put myself down I wanted to do this experiment because I wanted to become more aware of it so that awareness could lead to change right and so now as I said whenever I know is myself thinking the same things over and over again I'll stop myself or I'll try at least to stop myself or at least be like aware of it yeah you know what you're thinking the same thing again and that in itself is a powerful thing because as soon as you become aware of something as I said you can change it or try to change it or move it around or tweak it or whatever you can do with it right and so as I said very simple thing to do and very important because it's not necessarily that you can completely eliminate the repetitive thoughts obviously but it is possible that if you realize that you're thinking about the same things over and over again that if you realize again I'm thinking about this particular conversation I had with this boss of mine two weeks ago and I keep on thinking about her every single time the bell dings it's the same conversation that comes up in my head then you can start thinking about it how can I resolve this how can I get over this how can I get closure from this how can I fix this so I don't constantly think about it and maybe that would mean having that difficult conversation with your boss yeah it's difficult but at least you won't be torturing yourself with these repetitive negative thoughts over and over and over again right aren't they repetitive positive thoughts can happen too you know you might have a situation where you're you know you succeeded on something and constantly whenever you catch yourself you're thinking about something really nice and you're like oh my god I'm so happy that this happened that can be a good thing as well maybe you just got married and whenever you catch yourself you're thinking about the fact that you got married to your best friend great awesome you know that you don't have to change but it's nice to be aware of the fact that you're so happy about it that you're such a positive person or that you are able to have these positive thoughts about your newly acquired relationship or marriage or whatever it might be a new baby a new job right it's again the whole point isn't to to have another tool so we can torture ourselves and say you're a terrible person how dare you think you're creative you are such a nonsensical human being you shouldn't be you wouldn't be allowed to live you know things like that and thought so that we can put ourselves down we have many other tools to do that we don't need another one but again is to become aware that yeah you know what actually there's a lot of repetitive thoughts in my head and the minute I become aware of it is the minute that I can start moving towards resolving all of those now as I said you will never be able to resolve it completely I want I don't think unless you're enlightened perhaps or a Buddhist monk who meditates 20 hours a day but eventually little by little you'll be able to slow down the repetitive repetitiveness so you'll be able to perhaps eliminate a lot of the repetitiveness you might still have repetitive thoughts not as many and also you'll be able to notice your negative thoughts a little bit more and perhaps resolve them as well and then have less negative thoughts maybe have just less thoughts in general that's the ultimate goal of course with the meditation is right complete silence silencing of the mind but that takes years and years of practice so I don't know if that's necessarily what we're going for but we are going for with this exercise to realize to become aware that yeah I have a lot of negative thoughts and yeah I have a lot of repetitive negative thoughts and so what can I do to fix them what can I do to resolve them what can I do to get closure from them what can I do so I can get past that and move on and perhaps have some different thoughts because if your brain doesn't have any space for any other thoughts because you're constantly thinking about the same things over and over again then how are you gonna bring any new thoughts into it you know how are you gonna bring anything other other than the thoughts you've been thinking already there's no space for anything else right as you create space in your life by decluttering and things like that the same thing has to be done for your mind as well you declutter your mind you remove all the garbage all the nonsensical negative repetitive thoughts and then that creates space for something positive something new something beautiful perhaps to come into it right but otherwise if you don't do that if you don't do that we decluttering if you just keep on hoarding those negative thoughts then they're just gonna sit there and they're gonna take up space and they're not gonna leave any space for anything else to come into it right I hope this makes sense I I thought it was really important for me to discover this fact and so I thought that I'd share that with you again if you have been doing this exercise or you have done it in the past let me know how that went for you I'd really love to hear how what your thoughts were and how your experience was again thank you so much for being on my channel I really appreciate your support and I shall see you the next time around bye for now
