Relaxed Vs. Productive Days - A Mental Tweak To Help You Recharge Better
by Boom Shikha
When we are working, we dream about resting. When we are resting, we dream about working. In neither situation are we able to do the activity wholeheartedly. That's the main issue with humanity's relationship with work and rest. Photo by WillSpirit SBLN on Unsplash

Hello everyone!
I hope that you're doing amazing wherever you are in the world.
My name is Bhoomshakha and I welcome you to my channel.
As always I'm so grateful that you're listening,
Subscribing and commenting.
I really appreciate the support.
In this one I wanted to speak to you about this thing that people have about being productive on certain days and then wasting certain other days.
We have this notion in our head that this is a productive day,
That we've done a lot,
We've accomplished a lot,
So we are productive.
It's a productive day so we label it as such.
Then we go to another extreme where we have wasted days,
Where the complete day was a waste.
We didn't do anything,
We just relaxed or chilled out or wedged out,
Watched Netflix or chilled or ate a lot of ramen,
Whatever it might be,
Whatever your idea of a non-productive day might be.
We kind of labeled that as a non-productive day.
We have productive days and then we have wasted days where it's completely wasted and we just go to bed thinking,
Oh my god I can't believe I wasted this day,
I'm a terrible person,
I really need to push myself tomorrow,
I really need to do a lot of stuff because otherwise I'm just gonna waste my life away and what's the point of me being alive and things like that.
I'm saying all this because I have those thoughts in my head as well.
I wanted to share with you a perspective that I've changed the way I kind of look at it a little bit.
I've just done a tiny tweak to it and that's really changed the way I look at my wasted days versus my productive days.
I'm sure you're all doing this kind of as well but I really want to share it with you because I found it very useful for me.
Of course the problem isn't that with the productive days,
We love our productive days,
We're very happy with our productive days,
We're very very accomplished and we feel good about ourselves and we feel validated and we feel like we're not a waste of space and we're actually here on the planet contributing in a manner that makes sense.
We're great,
You know the productive days don't even matter to us,
We don't care that much.
So it's fine,
I'm not even gonna talk about that that much.
But it's the wasted days that we really lament about and that we really berate ourselves for.
We put ourselves down for it,
We don't even enjoy the wasted days.
So we're in the middle of wasting our days and today we might be like ah I don't feel like doing anything I just want to be lazy and so we're like all right I'm just gonna waste the whole day I'm just gonna chill out and I'm gonna relax.
And instead of being like all right I've actually decided consciously that I'm gonna waste this day instead of being like all right let's just waste the day and just enjoy it let's just really get into it and let's just chill out completely.
Let's just really really be into it.
Instead of that we kind of go back and forth between oh my god I'm a terrible person I'm wasting my day I shouldn't be doing this and then wasting our day and then just feeling terrible the whole time that we're doing it so that we're not even able to enjoy the fact that we're wasting the day.
Do you know what I'm saying?
Instead of actually being like all right fine I've decided I'm gonna waste today I'm just going to forget about it I'm gonna forget about all my work for today I'm just gonna really enjoy it I'm just really gonna get into it I'm really gonna eat a lot of ramen and I'm just gonna read a lot of manga and I'm just going to completely not move a single muscle for the entire day.
Instead of just letting go and just being in it just just relaxing with it like a cat would you've seen cats the way they're able to relax their muscles when they're lying down on the ground they're chilling out they're actually extremely relaxed like every muscle in the body is just like water.
So I wish that all of us could do that like instead of making that difference perspective in perspective being like all right this is a wasted day and I'm just gonna not enjoy it at all how about we like be we go into the day thinking okay so today I don't feel that good or I feel a little bit exhausted from my other productive days I had a bunch of really great productive days awesome I'm I'm great I'm awesome I'm I'm accomplished so come you know great for me but today I don't feel like doing anything today I just feel like lazing about I just don't feel like doing anything and so sometimes I will wake up like that and a lot of you guys ask me you know what would you work every single day lala mostly I do but some days I will wake up today I woke up like this you know I was like hmm I don't feel like doing that much I just want to do a couple of videos a little bit of writing and that's it I just want to afterwards chill out the real reason why I'm able to chill out very easily is because I know that I've done all my work properly so it's not like oh my god if I don't do this thing today then everything's gonna fall apart I know that my schedule is is on par I'm on track with everything I haven't procrastinated on anything I haven't let anything go so that it's gonna blow up in my face everything is on par I everything is good to go and so tonight to not this afternoon sorry I will take the afternoon just to relax and I do this quite often where I will do I will take maybe one or two afternoons a week where I'll just be like alright cool so the morning I finished everything that I needed to do and I've gotten everything done and now it's time for me to chill out so after I have my dinner my lunch sorry after like noon or after 1 p.
M.
That's it after that I don't do any work at all and for the rest of the day I'll just sit and I'll read mangas or I'll read my books and I'll chill out I'll go for a walk I'll do a little bit of knitting I might just spend some time my family or I'll just do nothing whatever I want to do I'll just relax not think about work at all and so I really have tried I know it's kind of weird but I'm like really trying to make sure that at least one or two afternoons a week I will make sure in my head that I have those kind of not scheduled necessarily because I want to make sure that I kind of follow my body's rhythm but one or two afternoons a week definitely I'll have a moment where I'm like hmm yeah you know what today I don't actually want to do that much work so this afternoon I'm going to leave it free and I do it very consciously so I'll go into it being like all right cool now boom it's time for you to waste your time yeah and I literally say this to myself I literally be like this is a delineation I worked work worked whatever in the morning I did whatever I needed to do and now I'll sit down and be like all right now we're gonna waste our time and so once I have that conscious like proclamation I guess being like all right cool now it's time to waste our time yeah we're just gonna relax and do nothing and so once I have that I don't feel guilty about it anymore because I'm like well yeah of course this is time for me I am wasting it I've actually done all my work there's nothing to worry about this is time for me to just chill acts and relax and I'm going to take this time and so while I'm wasting my time wasting my time I while I'm relaxing I should say I'm not being guilty about it right so I'm not taking away from my relaxing time because I think that's a problem with a lot of people is that when they're relaxing they're doing it half relaxing half guilt half of them is thinking oh my god I should really work half of them is like oh I should really relax and because of that they need extra time to relax because they're not able to really completely go into it right they're not completely able to relax and be like ah this is nice I'm just gonna chill out today no they're like oh my god I want to relax but I'm not gonna relax because I have to do some work but I really want to relax oh I want to relax but I'm not gonna do it because I you know I'm saying it goes back and forth you're pendulating and you're not really able to let go and chill out because I allow myself those afternoons of relaxation time I'm able to go into work every single day with a gung-ho attitude because I know I have my relaxation time coming and I don't feel like oh my god I haven't gotten any time to relax at all but previously when I did go into the situation when you know I get up some mornings I'm like I don't want to work today I wouldn't allow myself that time and if I did not do any work I would feel guilty the whole time and so instead of actually completely relaxing and letting go and just being happy in the moment that I'm I have this time to myself I would feel guilty the whole time it was a complete waste of time because not only was that was I not relaxing but I was not able to completely do it guilt-free of course but I wasn't even doing anything I wasn't being productive and I wasn't relaxing properly so it was a complete actual complete waste of time right so I really do recommend that you kind of make that switch in your head first of all as human beings we have to it's necessary for us to relax not only sleep sleep is necessary for sure every single day but not only sleep but we need other forms of relaxation as well I read an article recently and it was fascinating because she said there's seven types of relaxation that an individual needs seven types I do recommend that you go and check that article out if I remember I'll put a link to it but just google seven types of relaxation and so obviously there's spiritual relaxation there's actually like rest relaxation very relaxed and there's many other kinds of relaxation that we need in order to feel completely relaxed right and so it's not just the fact that we're kind of giving ourselves this time to recuperate but we need it as human as individuals as beings on this planet everyone needs relaxation time human beings are the only people on this planet I would imagine who don't allow themselves this time every other creature on the planet gives themselves time to rest even the bees and the ants that are always constantly working I'm sure they have time to relax as well all right and so it's not conducive to your work I do notice that when I don't give myself enough time to relax my work isn't that great yeah I do the work but I'm not really into it and the quality of my work suffers and my creative work definitely suffers because you need a balance of creativity and downtime in order to be really creative it's extremely important for so many different reasons for us to have this relaxation time it's not a waste of time if you really think about it in fact makes you more productive on your productive dates if you can really relax on your relaxing days so you really need to allow yourself that time to just chill out just be relaxed just being the moment and just take your time you know just take your time and be just do whatever you want to do right and so I really do recommend that you make that switch like that switch in your head is very important it's important for you to relax and it's important for you to consciously do it it's important for you to relax in a way where you're not feeling guilty it's important for you to relax in a way where you're doing it on a regular basis and it's very very very important for us to relax in a way where we can do it in a way where we're not berating ourselves for it you know it's very important for us to be like all right this is relaxation time it's important I need it it's it's important for my life for my health for my productivity right so once you make that switch I think it would perhaps help you as it has helped me now I'm not saying I'm perfect at it yet but I'm getting much better much better than I was before I hope this was useful I hope that this is helpful in a way if you have any questions about it please do comment below and I shall do a follow-up video I would love to hear your ways of relaxing how do you guys relax like what do you do in order to relax gardening or going for a walk in nature or spending time with your dogs or with your kids what do you do I'd love to hear from you thank you so much for your support and I shall see you the next time around bye for now
