It’s a common misconception in meditation that we are to simply shut off the mind, still all thoughts. Thoughts are not the enemy. The mind's sole purpose is to think and it will continue to do so. We aim to focus that thinking in a single direction. Some days that will be easier than others and that is a commonality for all of us in meditation. Whether this is your first or one-thousandth time meditating, know you are not alone in this and we are all with you.

Slowly move yourself into an easeful meditation position if you are not there already.

Use these few moments before the real work begins to prepare the body and mind for your meditation practice.

Attune the senses to your surroundings.

Use them to bring yourself into the present moment and out of whatever your day has brought so far or may bring after.

Breathe.

Even from the external to the internal,

Our focus shifts to the flow of our breath,

To the movement,

The sound,

The feel,

Even the energy it carries.

As we continue to point our focus in this direction,

Everything else becomes softer,

Outside distractions slowly dull.

We are walking our mind towards the inner quiet.

We are walking our mind towards the inner quiet.

We are walking our mind towards the inner quiet.

It's a common misconception in meditation that we are to simply shut off the mind,

Still all thoughts.

Thoughts are not the enemy.

Repeat that internally.

Thoughts are not the enemy.

The mind's sole purpose is to think and it will continue to do so.

We aim to focus that thinking in a single direction.

Some days that will be easier than others.

That is a commonality for all of us in meditation.

Whether this is your first or one-thousandth time meditating,

Know you are not alone in this,

We are all with you.

Returning to the aspect of the breath you chose to focus on earlier,

Let this be what consumes your awareness.

Let it become the loudest thought in your mind.

This is the inner quiet.

All else will return as we will to it.

All else will return as we will to it.

All else will return as we will to it.

All else will return as we will to it.

All else will return as we will to it.

All else will return as we will to it.

All else will return as we will to it.

All else will return as we will to it.

All else will return as we will to it.

All else will return as we will to it.

All else will return as we will to it.

All else will return as we will to it.

All else will return as we will to it.

All else will return as we will to it.

All else will return as we will to it.

All else will return as we will to it.

All else will return as we will to it.

Every time we sit for meditation,

It becomes easier to do so the next time.

Every time we focus the mind,

It remembers more and more each time how to do so again.

I hope to share this practice with you again soon,

For wherever we are in meditation,

We are connected.

Namaste.
