I won't tell you why I didn't pay attention to eating with the seasons before I became Wiccan,

Because that will get both of us nowhere and possibly frustrated.

What I want to share with you now is how eating with the seasons has benefited me.

Please understand that no part of this talk is meant to give medical advice in any way,

Shape or form.

Plus,

I am speaking from the standpoint of someone who lives in the Northern Hemisphere.

Simply put,

Wicca is a nature-based spirituality,

And eating with the seasons is just one of many ways that we,

The Wicca,

Connect with the cycles of nature.

When you choose to dine out,

You might observe a seasonal menu from time to time.

For example,

Eating oysters only during months with the letter R in them has recently found to be a 4,

000 year old practice.

Why?

Take a walk outdoors.

As you're taking this walk outdoors,

Observe what's blooming and what isn't.

What's blooming is in season.

Roots are typically harvested in summer months.

Root vegetables in fall or winter.

Notice how a roast simmering on the stove smells in winter.

Notice how refreshed you feel by consuming berries and juices in summer.

Eating with the seasons is possibly one of the best ways to acquaint ourselves with the wheel of the year,

As is growing our own food.

In my experience,

Having a patio garden has been quite rewarding.

It was never meant to sustain us solely,

But it does give me a precise understanding of what is in season and how the wheel of the year is turning.

I invite you to take a short meditation with me right now.

Be positioned comfortably and allow your shoulders and neck to relax as you focus on your breath.

Take a few moments to realize how you are very much a part of nature.

Do not force bloom your personal plants,

Whatever those might be.

Allow yourself to bud and flower new fruits,

Vegetables,

And flowers with each season,

All the while knowing that you are incapable of making any errors.

Notice on how we naturally rise with the energy of the summer solstice,

How we take a time of rest at the winter solstice.

Allow your body to be receptive of these seasonal changes as part of your self-care.

When you are ready,

Invite subtle movements into your fingers and toes.

Allow your eyes to soften as you fix your gaze upon something pleasing to you.

Keep your focus on your breath.

Relax.

Breathe.

As we appreciate,

Admire,

And embrace the changing seasons,

Even when someone else thinks you should be running forward into summer while you're still enjoying winter,

Cling to the season that gives you the most peace.

And don't forget to give yourself a hug along the way.

The crow flies from me to thee to send the message,

Blessed Be.

Namaste.
