Inspired by Wayne Dyer’s timeless teaching, “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." This practice invites you to soften your vision + open your heart. Together we’ll choose one situation, person or experience that has been bothering us + gently explore it from new angles. Through mindful breath + visualization, we re-write the story we’ve been telling, allowing compassion + understanding to replace resistance. As the meditation closes, you’ll rest in the new story, knowing you can return to this practice any time you need to see life through softer eyes. perfect for: letting go, emotional healing, perspective shifts + cultivating inner peace

Hello,

Sweet beings,

And welcome once again to the space together.

I want you to take a moment before we begin our practice to take in these words.

It's a quote that Wayne Dyer used to use quite often that says,

When you change the way you look at things,

The things you look at change.

When you change the way you look at things,

The things you look at change.

And we're going to use those words as the foundation of our practice today.

And so take a moment to get comfortable,

To rearrange your body in a way that feels good.

And then seated or lying down,

Maybe eyes closed or soft gaze,

Release your fists,

Soften your toes,

Unclench your jaw,

And then take a great big breath in with me.

Let's draw in a big inhale and full exhale.

And just begin by paying attention to your breath.

Let that be the core of your practice today,

Just breathing.

And if at any point you get overwhelmed in the mind or the body,

Coming back to the breath can be a really powerful tool.

Now as you're here inviting relaxation into the body and directing your attention to your breath,

I want you to bring to mind something that is troubling you lately,

Something that is bringing discord to your heart.

This might be a person,

It may be a job,

It might be a very specific experience or circumstance.

It might be something within your home,

Your car.

Bring this into your mind's eye and see it as vividly as you can.

And then I want you to try something and I want you to take that image and try flipping it upside down,

Turn it all the way on its head.

And maybe it is someone's head,

Maybe a person turns completely upside down,

But maybe it is that experience or thing or something happening within your community.

Turn it upside down and just view it from that perspective for a moment.

And just like a small child getting curious about an object,

I want you to take this item in your mind and turn it onto its side.

And almost as if you could use the hands of your mind to turn it onto its other side.

Take a moment to turn it backward.

And forward.

And then bring it back to its natural state.

And as we remember that we can always look at an object from many different perspectives,

Many different views,

I want you to begin to do this,

But not in the physical sense.

I want you to bring to mind other ways that you might be able to view this situation,

To view this person,

To view this experience.

We are always making up stories in the mind about the things that we experience.

And so I want you to take a moment here to make up a new story,

To see if other words could fit,

Even if they're not something that you completely believe.

See if there is a little wiggle room around this specific thing.

Try it again.

And perhaps again.

Looking and finding new ways to view this very specific thing.

And sometimes just giving ourselves permission to do so can absolutely change that experience.

As you start to rewrite stories about this specific thing in your mind,

I want you to notice if one of those stories helps to soften your heart toward this thing that is bothering you.

I want you to notice when there's a little more compassion or understanding or love or gratitude toward this person or experience or item in your mind.

And if you come across that story that works to soften the heart,

I want you to stick with it for a few breaths.

I want you to breathe that softness,

That tenderness into that experience.

And notice how that would feel to soften the edges of your heart toward this thing.

Even if it only lasts a few more breaths or a few more moments.

Notice that within your body,

Within your mind,

Within your heart.

And then I want you to take another deep breath in with me.

Big inhale through the nose.

Big sigh out of the mouth.

And this troubling thing in your mind,

I want you to take a moment to wish it well.

In whatever way feels best in your own body.

And then try returning to your space with a small smile on your face.

I want you to return to this meditation a million times if needed with a million different people or experiences or items or objects.

Return to the space of softening the heart a million times if you need.

It will be here waiting.

From my heart directly to yours.

Namaste.
