Namaste and a very warm welcome to all of you in this daily live meditation session with me,

The answer.

We're meditating on Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

If I ask you,

Have you ever been hypnotized in your life?

If you go back in your memory and ask yourself when was it where you were hypnotized ever in your life?

You will quickly try to remember maybe an event,

Maybe a circus,

Maybe somewhere where there was a demonstration and for most of you,

You would say no,

You have never been hypnotized in your life.

But what if I tell you,

You've always been hypnotized in your life.

The entire life has been a hypnosis.

If you can see that,

If you can meditate over that,

A lot has to be,

A lot can be gained,

A lot can be learned,

A lot can be opened out of that.

What is this hypnosis that I am talking about?

What is this hypnosis that we are constantly going through in our life?

Let us try to understand that.

When you meet someone,

As an example,

And you are all loving,

You are all nice,

But the moment you see that person,

You are suddenly very angry.

What is that switch that happens from one state to the other when you meet a particular person or you are in a particular situation where you know deep down that you are not yourself.

You are behaving in a certain way.

It can be in a particular situation,

It can be at work,

It can be anywhere in your personal life with certain people.

You realize if you have that awareness that you are not yourself.

And how are you acting?

Why are you acting?

Why are you in that mode in which you are responding to that person,

To that situation in a completely different way,

In a foreign alien way to yourself.

And if you think about what is hypnosis,

Hypnosis is when you are acting without awareness.

When your body or your mind,

You are saying things in a way where you have no awareness of.

And when you reflect your entire life,

When you reflect your 24 hours,

How much of those 24 hours are with awareness?

Think about it.

How much of those 24 hours that you are having are with awareness?

What all actions are you doing with awareness?

And without awareness,

If that is not hypnosis,

Then what?

That program,

That conditioning that goes on functioning without awareness,

That hypnosis,

Who is doing that hypnosis?

Who is setting you up into that hypnosis?

The whole world is designed like that.

Every aspect of this world is designed like that,

That you are acting as a program,

You are acting without awareness.

You are acting in a certain hypnosis.

And not only the world,

You yourself are hypnotizing yourself.

Your own mind,

You yourself are the greatest hypnotist.

Every morning when you get up,

You come out of a beautiful deep sleep.

You don't know where you were.

You were once again far away from the world.

But the moment you wake up in the morning,

The first thing that you do is to pull in all what you were thinking last night,

All what you want to do tomorrow or today.

All this world comes back to you.

If that is not hypnosis,

Then what?

All that you have been thinking,

Your ideas,

Your plans,

Your hundred thousand thoughts,

They all come in that very first moment that you wake up.

And in that moment,

You are reminded again of your name,

Of your description,

Of your responsibilities,

Of who you are.

And the whole day you are constantly repeating those elements of hypnosis,

Those thoughts,

Those patterns,

Those programs.

You are constantly repeating the whole day which make you believe that you are that.

That make you believe that this is who you are,

This is what is the purpose of your life,

This is what makes you happy,

This is what does not make you happy.

And you are living in that hypnosis all throughout your life.

What is the breakthrough out of this hypnosis?

Meditation are those moments,

Meditation is that space where for a very few moments you break out of that hypnosis.

For very few moments,

You suddenly are awake again.

You suddenly are without any program,

You suddenly are without any name,

Any shape,

Any form,

Any thoughts.

And in that open space,

In that open awareness,

You for the very first time see who you are.

You for the very first time once again wake up to what matters.

And this window is so small that it closes again,

You go back into the world,

You go back into the hypnosis and you carry on.

Therefore the more you meditate,

This window starts opening more and more and more.

If you don't give yourself this chance,

If you don't give yourself any space,

Any moments where you can come out of this hypnosis,

You will never know that you are in this hypnosis.

So the step number one is to know that you are in a certain hypnosis all the time.

And there is a deep down feeling that tells you that,

That much awareness is needed,

That much sensitivity is needed to start in meditation,

To begin in meditation,

To let this meditation open up you,

Open you up and open your awareness up to a space that is dehypnosis.

And once you are in that space,

In and out,

Again and again and again,

This space becomes bigger and bigger and bigger and that takes over your reality of life.

What that brings is that you start doing everything in your life with awareness.

You start to let go of the patterns.

In every moment you have a fresh start.

You let go of the past in every moment.

You don't worry about the future in every moment.

You stay in the moment.

In the moment you remain fully aware.

And when you live your life moment by moment fully aware,

There is no question of unsatisfaction.

There is no question of purpose.

There are no questions left at all.

That is the message of meditation.

That is the message of yoga.

We are on the last sutra of the third chapter,

The vibhuti pada of yoga sutras of Patanjali.

We have already travelled a long journey,

A long journey of dehypnosis,

A long journey of putting all these layers of mind aside and coming to the truth,

Coming to our true self.

We are on the very last edge of this third chapter before we move into the fourth,

The kevali pada.

Let us hear what Patanjali has to say in his last sutra of vibhuti pada.

Patanjali says,

Sattva purushayo shuddhi sammya kevalyam.

When the energies attain purity equal to that of self,

There is absoluteness.

There is nothingness.

There is kevalyam.

Kevalyam is such a beautiful word.

We will look at different facets of kevalyam as we move into the sutras of the fourth chapter.

But for now,

What Patanjali here is saying in his last message on vibhuti pada,

He says,

When the energies attain purity equal to that of self,

Once again,

For those who have been meditating with me,

With Patanjali's yoga sutras,

They know that Patanjali is always referring to consciousness and energies as two different things.

And here he says,

When the energies have the purity,

As much purity as consciousness,

Consciousness is always pure.

You just cannot make the consciousness impure.

What you can do is you can put layers of mind,

Layers of dust,

Layers of conditioning,

Layers of hypnosis on top of consciousness,

But the consciousness always remains pure.

And always when you go in your silence,

In your depths,

You can always taste this purity of consciousness.

What is impure is the energies,

Is this manifestation which results in the body,

Which results in the mind,

Which results in all what is going on all the time in us.

If you call all of this as energies,

These energies,

They need to rise up in their purity.

We live a state of energies that is impure,

That is conditioned,

And there has to be a way through meditation to purify these energies.

And when these energies reach to the purity of consciousness,

Meaning when they become fully in sync with consciousness,

There is a meeting,

There is a merging,

That meeting and merging of energies and consciousness creates a revolution in your being.

That meeting and merging is known as yoga,

The union of the two.

The whole time,

From the very beginning,

From the first sutra until the very end sutra,

See where Patanjali is leading you.

Patanjali is saying that there are two,

They need to be merged into one.

There is energy,

There is consciousness.

He has been working with you to raise you to your consciousness,

To purify your energies for what?

For them to meet.

When they meet,

Then there is only nothingness,

Then there is emptiness,

Then there is nirvana,

Kevalya,

Moksha,

So many names to address the same state of liberation,

Same state of freedom.

Freedom from all hypnosis.

Freedom from all ideas.

Freedom from all thoughts.

Freedom from all desires.

Freedom from all that holds you down,

That captures you and does not let you be.

Freedom from all of that.

That is the state of liberation.

And when I talk about that state of liberation,

Even to imagine,

Even to refer to the state seems like an impossibility.

We are so much conditioned,

So much hypnotized,

So much imprisoned by the mind that the prisoner cannot even imagine that there is a freedom that is possible.

That freedom is not just for a few,

This is not just for those who are dedicating their entire life to a certain way.

This freedom of being belongs to all of us,

Each one of us.

It does not matter in which time,

In which situation of life we are,

This freedom,

This liberation is the ultimate.

There is nothing in between that is the goal of life,

That is the purpose of life.

Everything in between is a mental projection.

If you say to yourself that my goal of life is to do this only and that only,

Or my goal of life is to dedicate myself to an art or to my work or to my family or to anything,

All these are mental projections.

The purpose of life is liberation,

Is kevalya,

Is the state of moksha,

Nirvana.

This has been consistently said across all traditions,

Across all wisdoms of the world,

All those who have seen,

All those who have attained to the peak,

They all say there is only one peak and until you reach that peak,

Keep climbing,

Keep moving forward.

Do not stop,

Do not let yourself,

Your mind hypnotize you and make you stop in the middle.

Go all the way to the top.

That is the message of Patanjali as well in his last sutra.

Let us internalize this,

Let us meditate over this in our few moments of silence that we have together.

Please close your eyes.

Take a posture that is comfortable with your head,

Neck and back aligned,

Face relaxed.

I will chant Aum to purify the energies.

If you can chant along or can even just listen,

Just tune in to the vibrations of Aum.

This will allow your energies to purify,

For a silence to arise,

For an awareness to clear up.

This Aum chant will be long and with pauses in between.

Inhale.

Aum.

Bring all your energies to the sound,

To the vibrations of Aum.

Aum.

Aum.

Aum.

The vibrations of Aum reaching every cell of your body,

Bring your whole body in the vibrations of Aum,

From head to toe.

Aum.

Aum.

Allow all the hypnosis to break all patterns,

All conditionings.

To dissolve in the vibrations of Aum,

Breaking you free out of your own prison.

Aum.

Aum.

Your mind dissolving its boundaries into the vibrations of Aum,

Allowing your awareness to rise,

To expand.

Aum.

Aum.

Aum.

Aum.

Aum.

Aum.

Aum.

Aum.

Aum.

All this silence,

This settlement,

The restfulness,

In the vibrations of Aum.

Aum.

Aum.

And silence.

The soundless emptiness,

Silence that arises in your awareness.

Let your energies release.

Let your energies remain pure,

Remain in nothingness,

In emptiness.

In this silence,

You have no name.

You have no shape.

You have no role to play.

You simply are awareness,

Restful awareness.

Don't touch anything.

Don't try to change anything.

Nothing is silent emptiness.

Aum.

Aum.

No meaning to this space.

Aum.

Aum.

Aum.

Aum.

Aum.

Aum.

Free of thought.

Free of memory.

Free of all conditionings,

All hypnosis.

Aum.

Aum.

And very gently and slowly,

You may open your eyes,

Remaining connected to the awareness,

To the inner silence.

And as the world appears back in front of your eyes,

Move into this world with awareness.

Move into this world with consciousness.

Thank you very much.

Namaste.
