How do we respond to suffering in society without letting it consume us? In this talk, we explore how to turn external political stress into a practice of inner alignment. When you see a lack of justice or compassion in the world, the most powerful response is to practice those very values within your own life and relationships.

So when you hear about something going on politically that is tough emotionally,

Do these three things.

The first,

See what you can do to help.

See what you can do,

Where you have power,

Where you can donate,

Where you can contribute,

And do that thing.

Even if we're making little inroads to suffering,

That's still helpful.

So do something.

Two,

Notice what value is at stake when something feels off to you in society.

Is it justice that's at stake?

Is it compassion?

Whatever it is,

Figure out what that value is.

Is it that you are against violence and you see violence?

So step two is figure out how you can apply that very same value in your own life.

So where in your own life can you practice nonviolence?

Are you shouting at someone?

Is there a violence against yourself and against who you are and against your authenticity?

Practice that nonviolence or justice or compassion in your life in a new way in honor of that thing happening,

As a response to that thing happening,

To create more of it in the world.

And then step three is go back to living your own life.

Love the people you love,

Work,

Garden,

Eat,

Come back to your life.

Don't dwell on it because it's important that you be well.

If you think about it all the time,

It won't help.

Do step one,

Do step two,

And then let go and keep living your own life.

And if there's a new way you can help,

Help and do something about it,

But keep focusing on your own happiness.

So that's my three-part framework for politics right now.

Everything currently going on politically does get extremely overwhelming and frustrating. I'm going to practice this method in my own life. Thank you for sharing!
