In this short talk taken from an InsightTimer live event, Elliott is asked about the different ways to meditate. Meditation is not something you do, but rather a quality of being, presence, & awareness. No ending bell.

You're asking because of different ways that you've experienced being mindful,
Breathing at work,
Sitting,
Enjoying reality,
Walking.
Absolutely,
Daryl.
I think you've hit across something really important that I was talking about as well,
Is there's so many different ways to experience meditation and just quite literally to be meditative.
Meditation isn't an activity.
I want everyone to know this.
Meditation is not something that you're gonna do.
Meditation is a way that you interact with life and you can either be available with it,
To it or not.
If you ask a plant,
If you were to able to ask a plant and the plant would be able to talk back to you,
You ask it,
Hey do you want to meditate today?
The plant would be like,
Bro I'm always meditating.
Look at me.
I am meditation incarnated.
I'm meditation as I am.
Because meditation is a quality of being.
It's a quality of presence.
It's a quality of awareness.
It's a quality of being.
And if you can be in meditation,
Then you don't have to meditate.
So you can be in meditation while driving,
But there's limitations,
Right?
You can be in meditation while walking.
There's limitations,
Right?
You can also be in meditation just enjoying life,
Like Daryl said.
But there are certain limitations about doing,
Being meditative in different ways.
So that's why traditional meditation and meditation that I'm teaching is about creating such an atmosphere,
An environment for yourself,
Both internally and externally,
So that things just naturally happen.
If you want to experience peace in your life,
Then it's going to help to arrange your room in one way,
To arrange the objects in your kitchen another way,
To arrange your bed in a certain way when you get up in the morning,
To do certain things for your body,
To practice certain mental health practices,
To create healthy loving relationships in your life,
To do all these things.
There's so many things that involve being peaceful,
Because to create peace,
To create the experience of peace,
It involves a lot of things.
And to be able to do that,
It's very involved.
You have to be very involved.
You have to be committed.
If you actually want peace in your life,
If you actually want to do good in life,
If you actually want to flourish in life,
You have to do some fundamental things correctly.
Otherwise you're going to be lost going through patterns,
Going through the mistakes over and over and over,
Because there's so many things that you haven't quite dealt with,
That everything else is built upon.
If you haven't laid the right foundation for peace,
Then it's going to be very very difficult to experience peace,
Especially everlasting,
Especially,
You know,
Structural peace,
Which is,
In my language,
The building blocks for living a peaceful life.
So this is really important that we look at the foundational pieces of what we're doing,
And if we want to have the most profound meditative experience,
Then we need to cut out distractions so that we can be here within ourselves.
Because if we have alarms going off,
Or we have a baby crying,
Or we have,
You know,
Music happening,
Or we have our phones ringing and we're trying to meditate,
We're trying to be internally connected,
That's not going to work,
Because we're not setting the right stage for this play to play out.
We want to be able to,
In some way,
Alter and shift and manifest the drama that we want in life,
Because life is a drama.
Life comes from chaos.
I talked about this in my first workshop on Insight Climb earlier this,
Or last month.
Life is chaos,
But there is order within chaos,
And if you play by the rules of this order,
If you work with the forms and shapes and energies that have already been created for you,
Then that's you creating the right stage for your drama.
If you create a very bizarre,
Incongruous sort of stage for the drama that you want,
Let's say you want to create a wonderful drama of going to the beach with a loved one and just having a really good time,
But you set the stage for a trashy beach with a bunch of trash and people walking back and forth all the time and disturbing things happening here and there and huge waves coming in,
That's not the right setting,
That's not the right stage for the drama that you want to create.
And the drama that you want to create should be in touch with what is needed,
With what the situation asks for,
With what is really happening around you.
And if you do this and infuse that into your own heart,
Into your own mind,
Into your own intelligence,
Beautiful things can happen because you're playing within the constructs,
The forms,
The energies that have already been presented to you with life and you're trying to create new ways of arranging that life,
New ways of arranging that energy so that you can be sensible with life,
So that you can experience life as it was truly meant to be experienced,
Not the way that you think it should be experienced.
You're trying to create something that's aligned with life so that it naturally wants to occur,
So that it naturally blossoms,
So it naturally comes out instead of trying to force that way through life all the time,
Saying,
My way or the highway,
My way or the highway,
It's me versus the universe.
No,
It's not you versus the universe.
It should be you in collaboration with the universe,
You taking hints from the universe,
You aligning yourself with the cosmos and going,
Ah yes,
Now I see my place,
Now I know where I can take my first step in the right direction,
Because the right direction should be the direction that you want to go in consciously in communion with life.

I can truly relate to how meditation has become a source of peace in my life. As you mentioned in your thoughtful talk, it's incredible how much I can feel aligned with the universe when I take the time to connect with my Being.
