And today's topic is a topic that it may seem not important for some people,

But we all have to get dressed.

We all have to deal with clothes.

And so many people are struggling with it.

And so many people don't know how to do it.

And so many people didn't have the opportunity to have someone to teach them.

Honestly,

They didn't have the opportunity to have someone to teach them how to do it.

So they are so struggling every single day,

Every single morning to just get dressed,

To just do the laundry.

It becomes a huge task.

Frustration comes,

Family conflicts,

Who is doing what,

I can't find my pair of shorts,

I want to go to the gym and I don't find my exercise equipment,

Whatever.

And it's making life so complicated,

Right?

And it doesn't have to be.

But there are a few things that you need to take into account when you are trying to find your floor,

Your closet and laundry floor.

And guys,

This is something that some people don't link,

Okay?

If you are trying to design your closet,

But you don't take into account your laundry system,

How often you do it and how you like folding things and stuff like that,

It's not going to be successful because it's not a complete system,

It's a broken system.

And that's why some people may be struggling with it and they may not have a good flow because they haven't taken into account all the steps that it takes to complete the circle.

And what is the circle?

The circle is wedding clothes,

They get dirty,

They have to go somewhere,

They need to get washed,

They need to get dried,

They need to get folded and they need to get put back in whatever place you have decided.

And ideally there is no clutter anywhere,

There are no clothes hanging around the house,

It's very defined where things go when they are dirty,

When things go when they are clean.

And you have a system on when you do it and everybody in your home understands that and hopefully everybody in your home participates in the system.

So when that happens like that,

All of a sudden your life is easy,

Simple,

Frustrations are not existent,

And then you can just go ahead and do something else rather than being wasting time and energy with your clothes,

So the idea behind this topic today is to help you just do that.

The way my mother taught me to do laundry is just too complicated.

So it's time to simplify.

Guys,

Just something that I reflected on because some of you shared that you have special clothes that require special washing,

Or maybe you don't iron things,

Or maybe,

Fetch that,

Fetch that.

I say fetch because I don't want to say the F word,

But if you don't do that,

If you are procrastinating,

Let those things go.

Simplify your closet.

My closet,

I don't iron anything,

I don't wash anything special,

And if I have something that requires that specialty,

I let it go.

I give it to someone because I don't want to have the hassle of doing that.

That's me,

Some people appreciate their clothes,

Some people are willing to put the time into that.

If that's your case,

Absolutely do it.

In my case,

I normally do one laundry.

Everything is mixed up in there,

I put it in the washing machine,

I take it out,

Done.

I don't complicate myself separating too much.

My wife does whites and colors.

Sometimes if we have enough whites,

We'll do that,

But that's it.

I don't do anything else.

So,

For some of you,

If you are struggling and procrastinating,

Taking care of things that require too much of your time,

Why are you even doing it?

So let's get into it,

So I'm going to share some of the things that you guys share with me very quickly.

So challenges that you shared,

Clothes stay mostly in the laundry basket.

Very common.

People wash their clothes,

They left them in the laundry basket,

And when they need to get dressed,

They go to the laundry basket because they didn't take the time to put them in its place.

So many times because they don't like folding.

You don't have to fold things,

And then you will discover why after.

But you don't have to fold things if you don't want to,

Okay?

The closet is too small,

And in the closet are more clothes,

But not my favorite.

Okay?

I don't know how to organize.

I tried Marie Kondo way of organizing the closet,

But it didn't work.

So shout out for Marie Kondo for shining the light on organization and for inspiring millions of people to get started in the journey.

So really honor her for that.

But like everything,

There is not a one system that fits everybody in the world.

That's just the way it is.

So sometimes you need to hear different ideas,

You need to try different approaches until you find the one that fits your needs and the one that you feel inspired to use.

I have clothes of many sizes.

Amazing.

So many people are switching sizes really fast,

And they are keeping those clothes in case,

Just in case they can fit in them.

Or maybe they are keeping them because they are feeling guilty or embarrassed because they are in a size that they don't want to be in.

And there is a lot of emotional stuff in there that is very deep and it's preventing you from actually being able to organize your closet properly.

For lots for us,

Light stacks,

Towels,

Linens.

So you have a good system,

It looks like.

A million classes work.

I'm not done yet,

So I have clothes of my mom's I kept out of sentiment and thought I might wear,

But often do not.

Sentimental items.

Gifts from people that they buy you a piece of clothes and you feel guilty to let it go because you are afraid of what that person is going to feel like if you let it go.

So there is a lot of like guilt,

A lot of like expectations that are hidden but that are weighing you down.

And you just cannot be confident to let those things go.

My closet clearing has taken months.

I have a lot of clothing with very small closet size,

Seasonal and working wear just lack of space for any normal person.

So now,

The secret to that is DECLATTER.

Simplify.

Have less quantity.

Honestly,

That's the secret of that.

My dresser is packed pretty full,

Some folded,

Some not,

But all of my closet is a big tote of papers,

Miscellaneous,

Yank and shoes and etc.

Guys,

Using the closet to store something else other than clothes is something that some people do.

And sometimes it makes sense,

Sometimes it doesn't.

So every specific situation is unique.

I do not have a system when I wash,

Fold or put away laundry.

So sometimes I forget them in the washer,

I need to re-wash them.

Sometimes they stay in the dryer for several days or pile in the couch.

So that means that there is a broken system here,

Guys.

So the step by step system that you should follow for those clothes to arrive to their destination is just not happening.

And this is the way you have to shine the light on those things.

Why is it not happening?

Is it lack of time?

Is it lack of motivation?

Is it a very complicated system?

Is it too much laundry to do all at once and it's overwhelming and you don't have time?

What is it?

You have to shine the light on those things and analyze why are they happening?

Kids clothing ends up on top of the dresser often.

I also did the Maricondo technique a year or so ago.

It felt great to be organized but I was not able to maintain the habit.

The maintenance aspect is something very important.

Because you can create an amazing system that looks amazing but the maintenance may be so high that you will not keep doing it.

So that's why it's important for you to create something that you can maintain.

Create something that is simple enough that you are going to put the time every week to make sure that your closet is back to normal.

Whatever normality means to you.

Fortunately I have a uniform.

I've been wearing it daily for four years.

An item of clothing I designed that can be worn in over 50 ways.

You should sell that.

I don't know if you guys have heard of the Project 333 or the capsule wardrobe.

That's just techniques that will allow you to utilize very fewer pieces of clothing for a very long amount of time.

The Project 333 is based on using 33 pieces of clothing over 3 months.

So you are wearing the exact same 33 pieces of clothing for 3 months and you are just switching how they look like.

So you can get inspired and motivation online.

You can get ideas from other people if that's something that resonates with you.

But yeah,

Tell us more about that in the circle.

That would be interesting.

Okay,

So those are work clothes.

Work clothes are hanging hangers in one bedroom closet.

It's a small closet.

I have not been using the work clothes.

So guys,

I noticed a lot of stuff,

Okay?

Resistance.

And the biggest thing is having too much stuff and too many options.

So having too much stuff and too many options.

It's causing decision overwhelm each time I open the wardrobe.

Too much stuff clattered in the wardrobe that I wouldn't even consider a real option for wearing.

So that means that you have a lot of stuff in your closet that you don't like,

You don't need.

But there is something that is not letting you let it go.

There is something that is blocking you from being able to release those things into someone else.

Donate them,

Sell them,

Whatever you want to do.

Give them to family members.

Yeah,

Project 333.

Just type that on Google,

Guys,

When you are done with this session and you will find a lot of inspiration.

That's one idea,

But I can find or access my favorites or real options for wearing easily.

And then some frustration is like the seasonal clothing.

Guys,

You need to change from summer to winter,

All that stuff,

But you don't have a clear system for that.

So before getting started,

I just want to let you know one thing.

So when you are trying to organize your closet,

You are facing resistance,

Okay?

You are facing emotional attachment to things.

You are facing feeling guilty with some pieces because maybe someone gave them to you.

You are feeling,

Maybe feeling guilty because you spent a lot of money on those clothes and you don't want to let them go because it feels wrong.

You may be aware of like what's going to happen with these clothes.

If I let them go,

I don't want them to go to the trash.

So I want someone else to use them.

So you just keep cutting that emotional cycle.

Maybe it's just overwhelming to even get started because you have so much volume that you don't even know where to get started.

Maybe you don't have a clear understanding on how much you need,

Right?

Maybe you don't have a clear understanding on how many pair of shorts,

How many pair of pants,

How many shirts do I really need?

And we're going to dive into the system after,

Okay?

Yeah,

Decision fatigue.

Someone said that in the challenges.

Decision fatigue is real.

You just shut the closet and there are so many options in there that you just close it.

Honestly,

Because when you open the door,

It's like a hundred people are shouting at you all at once.

Where me?

Where me?

I'm here.

Wow.

And then you are just like,

Whoa.

And then you just shut the door because it's just so intense.

Okay?

So that happens.

That happens to me,

Guys.

And that's why I have a very minimalist closet and that's why I normally put the closet when I wear the next day in my chair by the bed.

Because I'm not a morning person.

I don't like making decisions first thing in the morning.

So for me,

I will choose what am I going to wear tomorrow.

Okay,

This white shirt with my pair of shorts.

I put them there.

And when I get up,

I'm just crooked.

I just put them on.

Wash my face,

Comb my hair,

Drink some water.

I'm set for the day.

I don't have to think.

I don't have to open the drawer,

Decide what color I want to wear.

That's not for me.

Some people enjoy that.

Some people say,

I love getting up,

Opening my closet and having 300 choices to make.

And spending half an hour going through what am I going to wear today and this top goes with this bottom.

And if that's something that you enjoy,

Guys,

Go ahead and do it.

If that's something that you don't enjoy,

You have to simplify.

Okay,

So that resistance is there.

Okay,

That resistance is going to always be there.

And the only way for you to beat that resistance is to set a strong intention.

So before even getting started touching your things,

You have to have a strong intention.

So,

What if your clothes are self-expression?

Sense of style,

Clear,

There is nothing wrong with that.

But if that's the case,

Why aren't you allowing enough time for that to happen?

And this is something that some people face.

Clothes are important to me.

I really value what I wear.

I really like to have 100 options to wear,

Blah,

Blah,

Blah.

But then I'm not willing to put in the time to organize them.

I'm not willing to put in the time to do so much laundry.

I'm not willing to put in the time and I feel frustration every day.

If that's the case,

There is a conflict there.

Okay,

And if you are here,

More likely you are feeling some sort of frustration,

Are you?

Because if you are not,

Probably this topic will just slip your mind.

You will not be interested in spending time here with us today.

Am I right?

And this is not to be judgmental.

This is just to shine the light and see the reality.

Okay?

Some of you,

Maybe your intention is to be able to do that.

Maybe your intention is to be able to have the options and to be able to wear everything that you have.

But if it's been one year,

Two years,

One month,

Three months of you feeling frustration,

Of you not having an organized closet,

Of you not feeling a good flow,

That's a good indicator that you have to change something.

There is something that is not working for you.

Okay?

And again,

If you value your clothes,

Then you have to put the time.

There is nothing wrong.

Guys,

There are so many different styles.

I am the antidote of going shopping and looking for color,

Shades.

I'm really bad at that.

I don't care what I wear.

I try to be nice,

But I don't really care that much.

But some people,

They do,

It's important to them.

It's self-expression.

They are fashionistas.

And there is nothing wrong with that.

If that's your choice,

But you have to honor whatever you choose to do.

You have to honor it in spending time,

Keeping things tidy,

Doing the laundry,

Putting things back,

Having a system that is easy for you to decide what to wear and when.

So you understand what I mean?

Like the more complicated the system,

The more time you just need to invest in it.

But there is nothing wrong if you are willing to do so.

I want the options,

But don't want to put in the time to organize and have too small a space.

There is a big conflict.

God,

There is a huge conflict there.

If you don't have,

And this is something that,

So,

Once you understand the resistance that is happening,

Okay,

And how you feel and the things that are blocking you from getting what you need,

You have to be able to set a strong intention of what you really want.

What do you want?

Do you want to have a simple closet?

Do you have to want less things?

Do you want to be able to wear everything that you have easily?

But then,

In order to set that strong intention,

You have to become aware of a few things,

Okay?

So things that you have to be aware of and question yourself.

So first,

What's your goal?

Okay,

Be clear.

What are you trying to do here?

What is your desired outcome?

Like if you could do this,

And then have your closet finished,

And have a good laundry system,

How is it?

What does it look like?

Okay?

And then,

What happens if you don't do anything and you keep living the way that you are living right now?

What's the pain of that?

What is the,

What's gonna happen?

How is your life going to be minimized?

How is your life going to be like,

Frustration?

And like,

What are you not going to be able to do that you could do if you made the required changes that you are seeking?

Okay?

So the second one,

How much closet space do you have?

How big is your closet?

Because if your closet is small and you have 300 pieces of closet that don't fit,

That's not going to work.

Doesn't matter what you do,

It's not going to work.

It's just not going to work.

The relationship between how much space you have and how many clothes you have,

Just doesn't work,

Okay?

So if that's your case,

Do you have any extra storage space somewhere else in the house?

Do you have access to attic,

Access to a garage,

Access to a storage unit,

Access to another closet?

You have a spare bedroom that you can use?

So think about that.

Do you have any other extra space?

Not for the day-to-day use,

But maybe you can rotate clothes.

Maybe if you don't want to let go of everything that you have because everything is good and you fit in everything and you love it,

Don't let go of things,

But don't have everything in your closet.

Maybe you can say,

I'm going to have 15 outfits,

20 outfits,

However many outfits you need,

But the others,

I'm going to put them in the closet.

And then every few weeks,

Every few months,

When I feel inspired,

I will rotate them.

You understand what you are doing here?

You are rotating your wardrobe.

So you can have three sets of wardrobes,

But you don't have to have all your clothes in one wardrobe all the time if it's overwhelming you.

See?

That's one approach.

Okay?

My goal is to have a more professional space.

Everything around me is something I enjoy looking at.

Amazing.

That's an amazing goal.

Too much stress with it as it is.

Not big enough.

Need another space besides tiny closet?

Yes.

So you need another space,

But do you have access to another space?

That's what I'm asking.

Do you have access to another space where you can have extra clothes that you are not going to be wearing on a day to day basis?

You are just going to rotate every few weeks or every few months.

Okay?

Rotation will work plus editing now.

How often do you do laundry?

Another question.

Very important,

Guys.

How often do you do laundry or how often do you want to do laundry?

Okay?

Because the system and the amount of clothes that you are going to have,

You are going to need.

If you do laundry on a weekly basis,

It's going to be different than doing laundry on a bi-weekly basis.

It's going to be very different than doing laundry on a monthly basis.

Why?

Because if you are the kind of person that says,

I would just rather spend one full day,

Once a month doing laundry.

Guess what?

You have to dress yourself for 30 days before you wash things.

So you need 30 outfits unless you can wear the outfits a few times because that's another thing.

Do you really need to wash it?

And this is something that some people don't even think about,

But do you really need to wash it?

If I'm wearing this shirt today,

I just went for a run this morning,

I took a shower and I put this dress on.

I'm going to go throughout my day.

Most likely I'm not going to exercise anymore.

And if I don't go out a lot and I don't sweat a lot,

Guess what?

I'm going to wear this again.

I don't have to wash it.

But some people,

They take their clothes off,

They put them in the laundry.

They don't even question it.

And it's like,

Do you have to really wash it?

Because if you question yourself that way and the answer is no a few times every week for four weeks,

You are going to save a lot of clothes in the laundry.

Okay?

So just think about it.

Do you have to really wash it?

And how often do you want to do laundry?

Because if you want to do laundry on a weekly basis,

You don't need many clothes.

Just seven outfits,

Ten outfits.

That's enough.

If you do laundry every two weeks,

It's going to be 14 outfits.

Unless you can repeat some of them a few times.

If you do laundry once a month,

I don't really recommend that to a lot of people because first,

You're going to need a lot of clothes to dress yourself for 30 days before you do laundry.

Second,

You have to manage all that amount and volume of clothes.

Third,

Doing laundry is going to be an overwhelming task because you're going to have a few loads.

Probably four loads,

Five loads.

If every load takes maybe one hour in the laundry plus another hour in the dryer and you have to repeat that five,

Four,

Five,

Six times.

Guys,

How long do you need to do that?

The reality is that some people don't do it.

I work with some people that they don't reuse their clothes.

They go and buy clothes to the second-hand store,

To the shop,

Because it's easier than confronting the pile of laundry.

They cannot even see the laundry machine,

The washing machine sometimes or the dryer.

It gets to the point that it's so overwhelming that they just keep adding to the pile of a mountain and they just cannot face it.

So that's why doing laundry for us,

We do laundry once a week.

Because I don't like doing laundry,

Guys.

I don't like doing laundry.

So for me,

Doing laundry once a week is the less overwhelming task because it's just one bin,

One basket.

Normally,

It's just one basket,

Sometimes two,

But normally one is enough.

I put it in the washing machine while I'm cooking,

While I'm watching a show,

While I'm doing something else.

Then I put it in the dryer or put it outside if it's nice.

And then I would come here,

I would throw it in the bed,

And then I would put some music on or maybe a show on my phone with a tripod or something.

And I would fold things down,

Put them back,

And then it doesn't take me a long time to do it.

That's why I can do it.

If I were to do it once a month,

I can tell you that I will be overwhelmed.

I will be not liking the process.

I will be procrastinating.

And I will be unhappy.

Because it's such an overwhelming task.

Okay?

So that's a reflection piece for you.

With important questions.

Do you have delicate clothes that require a lot of care from you,

But you just don't care about them?

Or you care about them,

But you just find yourself procrastinating over and over,

And it becomes a mountain of things to do,

But you just don't do them.

Because they are too complicated.

Because they require a specific wash.

Or they require hand wash.

Or they require to be ironed three times.

Or they require to,

You have to wash them in,

You have to take them to a shop because you cannot put them in the washing machine.

So just think about it.

If you find yourself having those kind of clothes,

And you always procrastinate,

Why do you have them?

Why can't you simplify?

Why don't you just let them go?

And when you purchase clothes,

Just get something that is easy to maintain.

Something that doesn't wrinkle.

Something that you don't have to take a lot of care with.

Something that can go in the same lot with the other clothes.

Just think about it.

If you are willing to put the time,

Then have as many special clothes as you need.

But if you don't,

Just question yourself.

Why am I not doing this?

Okay?

So I think I'm putting it in the washing machine and hanging it off my garden a lot,

But after the laundry is dry,

It's stuck.

It makes me think of other things in my home that are overwhelming and procrastinating.

Yeah.

So,

Okay.

Next.

And this is so once you know how much space you have,

Once you know how often you're going to be doing laundry,

Okay,

That's the time for you to design a list.

And this list is going to have categories.

How many categories of clothes do you really need?

And some examples are some people when I work with clients and I ask them this question before even touching clothes,

Before even going into the closet,

I always ask them before we even confirm what you already have.

I want you to tell me very clearly.

What do you really need?

And I ask them,

How often do you want to do laundry?

I see the closet space.

So it can be a realistic answer,

Right?

They say,

Okay,

I have work clothes.

Some people have a uniform.

Some people have office clothes that they have to wear.

Some people have to wear a tie.

Some people have to like,

There is like an address code that they have to follow.

So for them,

Always think about what comes to mind to you.

Maybe work is one.

Maybe exercise is another one.

Maybe chilling at home,

Relaxing is another one.

Maybe working around the home,

Doing projects,

Getting dirty,

Painting stuff,

Maybe that's another one for you.

So write down the categories that you have in your life.

Okay,

Categories that make sense to you.

Once you have those categories,

I want you to write down below.

How many of each do you need?

For example,

I work with a client and they say,

Oh,

I have work clothes.

Okay,

So that's a category for me.

Work clothes.

I do laundry once a week.

So realistically,

I need to have five outfits.

If you can be done,

Probably three or four outfits is enough because I don't have to wash them every day because I am in air conditioner.

I don't sweat a lot,

So I don't really get them dirty.

So maybe four outfits a week is enough to go from Monday to Friday.

Maybe three outfits is enough.

Maybe five,

Maybe seven.

You come up with the number,

Okay?

And then how many pair of pants,

How many pair of skirts,

How many pair of shirts,

How many pair of jackets if you have to wear a jacket.

Be realistic.

How many do you really need?

Write it down.

Okay?

The same with maybe exercise clothes.

I play squash.

I play squash three times a week normally.

So I know that I need at least three to four shirts that are going to get dirty.

I need at least two pair of shorts because the shorts I normally wear them twice.

Okay?

And then I need socks.

I need underwear.

So I know how much I need for that specific activity.

So I will write it down.

Okay?

And then I know how much volume I have.

So same for you.

How many do you need?

And then casual and then again,

Go through the categories and write down what you need.

And then I just want to show you an example of a person I work with.

Okay?

And this is what she,

I don't know if you guys can see this.

This is what she came up with.

Okay?

So she made a list and then she made it pretty with a sticker and then she brought down bedroom and then she brought down goal I want.

So the goal.

I want my room to look like I want to be peaceful.

I want to be able to read a journal sitting on my bed.

And I want to have easy access to my closet and get dressed quickly and efficiently.

What's my plan of action?

So after discussing over the phone with her,

The plan of action and me seeing what she had,

This is what she brought.

I want to start behind my door.

I want to go through my boxes first.

I want to start donating and maybe.

So I want to donate the things that I know for sure I don't want.

I want to create a maybe pile with all the things that are emotional to me.

And I don't have a clear answer yet because I recommend to help to do that.

Don't get stuck with the sentimental items.

Put them on a maybe pile and forget about them for now and keep moving with everything that is easy for you.

Everything that you have an easy answer to.

Okay?

And then pull out clothes that don't fit and I don't like.

Just pull them out and just donate them.

Okay?

And then she says,

How many items do I need?

And then she said,

Pants two,

T-shirts six,

Long sleeves four,

Sweaters three,

Scarves not sure yet,

Leggings three,

Jeans four,

Hats two and work shirts six.

And then I want to do laundry once a week.

So this is what she brought here.

Okay?

This is what she shared with me.

And after doing that,

Then we got started with the process.

So I was just guiding her through the process.

I don't know if you can see,

But she was sending me photos of her process.

I was keeping her accountable.

And then she was doing some celebrations like my floor is clear.

Yeah.

And then she was she was just sharing the progress over the few days that we were working together.

And then we had a call because she was stuck with some stuff.

And then I got her through the process.

And then this was her closet after clear out the top shelf.

So she was just making slow progress.

Top of the dresser looks great.

She was so pumped about that.

And then it's just a process,

Right?

Today's the day.

She said here,

Today's the day.

That's because she was off of work and she was planning on doing the big declutter that day.

So she took everything out.

She put it in the bed and then she started making the piles like with like.

She started the easy decisions.

She started putting them aside for donation.

The sentimental items or things that she wasn't sure of.

She was putting them on the maybe pile.

And she always kept her list in front of her because I told her,

Like,

Chose the things that you love the most.

OK.

And then from the things that you love the most,

Choose the top six,

The top four,

The top two that you want to wear.

And that's what's going to go back in the closet first thing.

OK.

Once you have that in your closet,

You have a functional closet.

You have everything that you need that you say you need it.

All the rest.

It's going to be way easier for her to make the decisions because she's going to pull out and say,

I don't love it.

I can donate it because I have enough.

This one I love.

I can put it in my rotate bag because I wish she did.

She has a rotate beam.

She fill up a beam and then she put it in somewhere else.

And then every few weeks when she feels inspired,

She will go.

She will grab that beam.

She would dump it on her bed.

She will take all the stuff from the closet,

Put it in that beam,

Close the lid,

Put the beam back in the storage.

And then she will hang or use the drawer.

She'll put the new closet out.

She loves it.

Easy to function,

Easy to find things,

Fun.

Every few weeks when she feels inspired,

She rotates the closet and it feels great.

So this is one example of a process that was successful.

And then she sent me a video saying how happy she was and all the things that she was doing.

And then I shared this story on my social media channel.

But basically this is just one example of a process.

Okay?

And the process can look different for everybody of you.

I like the idea of rotation beam.

I have one of those two.

Then there is a box of clothes that need repairs that I never get to.

So what do you think?

That's a good question.

Because it's requiring a lot of time and energy from you to be able to repair those clothes.

So at the end of the day you just have to assess.

Do I have the time?

Am I willing to invest the time that is required to fix these clothes?

Or should I just let them go and start fresh?

And that's your own decision.

You are the one making that decision.

What I do with people when I'm working with them,

I keep a to-do list.

Okay?

And I would just write down,

Okay,

You have to fix that sweater.

Okay,

You have to do this.

You have to do that.

You have to take this to your sister.

You have to write down everything that you tell me you have to do.

And then I would ask you,

How long is this going to take you?

Oh,

Half an hour,

Three hours,

One hour.

How much is this going to cost you?

I don't know,

20 bucks,

30 bucks,

10 bucks,

Whatever.

I would write all those things and then at the end of the session I will show you the list.

And then the majority of the people will say,

Oh wow,

That's a lot of time.

I don't want to spend that much time doing these things.

So they will take the list and they will say,

I don't want to do this.

I don't want to do this.

I will do this.

I mean,

All of a sudden the confidence came.

They now can decide,

I want to let that go.

I want to keep this and I want to let that go.

And then all of a sudden they are moving forward way faster with more confidence than before.

So the secret is to get started,

Guys.

You have to get started.

How?

It's going to look different for everybody,

But once you go through those questions,

So you assess the space you have and then you look at the volume of clothes that you have.

You have to be realistic and then you decide how often you're going to do laundry.

Okay.

And then you decide the categories of clothing that you want to have and how many of each.

And then from that list,

You have to declutter.

Okay.

You don't have to throw things away,

Sawadi.

You don't have to throw things away.

We always donate everything.

Even the clothes that are broken,

We donate them to a place that they will use them for scrap materials to do sewing and to do stuff.

So you don't have to throw away anything.

Okay.

So once you understand the plan that you have created for yourself,

You have to declutter.

Declutter means taking everything out.

Okay.

And then assessing every piece that you have.

Do I like this?

Do I fit on it?

Do I want to keep it or not?

And having that list and having done those questions before and having a clear and strong intention,

It's going to be easier to go through the resistance that you are going to be facing.

Okay.

You're going to be facing the resistance of,

I don't have time.

I don't know how to do this.

I feel emotional.

I feel guilty because I spent money on this.

This person gave this to me as a gift and I cannot let it go.

Like all that resistance is going to show up like it or not.

But when you have a strong decision,

A strong intention,

A clear plan of attack that you have done and you feel well and motivated,

You are going to push through that easily.

If you don't have that strong intention and you haven't done the awareness piece first,

You are going to be facing the pile of clothes.

You don't know where to start and you will not have the energy to push through it.

Okay.

So,

I have done this hundreds of times.

So that's why I know what I'm talking about because I have helped a lot of people in their bedrooms do this.

And after doing this,

When you guys do something hundreds of times,

You just become good at it because repetition allows you to just be good at it because you have failed a lot of times.

You have had the opportunity to try different strategies until something worked.

And when you can repeat something that works over and over and over with different people,

That's a method.

That's something that is worth sharing with others.

And that's what I'm doing with you here.

I'm sharing this with you so that you can take what feels good to you and start moving forward.

Because this is not the right method for everybody either,

But at least you are going to be taking nuggets that feel good to you and you are going to be able to start moving forward.

OK?

OK,

So strategies to get started.

OK?

Best case scenario is taking everything out,

Going through it,

Putting only back what you need,

And then if you want to keep something extra,

Being able to put it in a bin somewhere else outside of your closet so that your closet is decluttered and then let go of the rest.

Donate it,

Sell it,

Whatever you want to do with it.

But don't keep it in the closet.

That would be the ideal case scenario.

But I know that that's daunting for some of you.

I know that you may have so much volume that that may seem scary.

OK?

That may not be the way for you to get started.

So some stuff for you to get inspired.

OK?

So a hanger.

If you are a person who likes hanging clothes,

So if you have your butt here,

A strategy that some people use is they take,

They put all the hangers the opposite way in the closet and then every time they wear something,

They will wear it and then they will just put it the regular way.

OK?

So by the end of a few,

One or two weeks,

They will see some hangers that they have worn are this way,

The normal way,

But some of these hangers are going to be like this.

So the hangers that are the opposite way,

That means that you didn't wear those things.

OK?

So that's a sign that you can maybe take that piece and donate it,

Sell it,

Give it to family members,

Whatever you have to do,

But get it out of your closet.

That's one way of start making progress.

What I do is like if I'm getting dressed and I am looking through my things and I always keep specific clothing,

When I notice that I skipped that piece of clothing two or three times,

I will take it out and I will really ask myself,

Why am I skipping wearing this?

OK?

And if I don't find a reason of why I should keep it,

I will donate it.

And I have a donation back in my closet where I will put it right away in there.

And maybe once a week,

I will just take that back out and donate it.

So two good strategies to start making progress.

Another strategy,

OK?

Go to your closet and start taking out the things that you know you don't like.

Just start taking things every day,

A few things.

OK,

What's going to happen with that?

You're going to start gaining momentum.

One day you're going to let go of two or three things.

The next day you're going to let go of another two or three things.

And then you're going to start building that muscle of decision making.

OK?

And the volume of your clothes over time is going to start reducing.

You have to be patient.

But if you are not willing to invest the time all at once,

That's another way to start carving out from that decluttering process.

Start always with the things that you know for sure you don't like.

You don't fit on it.

You don't want to keep them.

OK?

Don't have fat pants for when.

.

.

Don't you have fat pants for when you gain weight.

For the people who gain and lose weight easily,

Again,

Don't keep in your closet things that you are hoping to fit in that are going to make you feel bad every time you look at them.

If you are unsure if you are going to be able to fit on those things again,

But you have.

.

.

Maybe it's an option.

Have a bin,

Have a place where you will keep them,

Just in case.

OK?

Unless you have a huge closet.

If you have a huge closet and space is not a problem,

You can keep everything in there.

That's fine.

But if you notice that you are having frustration,

That's a sign that you need to change your system.

OK?

For those of you who are switching sides really easily very often,

You have to create a system that you feel comfortable with.

A system that facilitates the lifestyle that you want to have.

If you open your closet and you feel guilty every time you look at those sizes that you don't fit in anymore,

Guess what?

Take them out of your closet.

Put them somewhere else.

You are not letting them go.

But you are not having them in front of your face every single day and making you feel bad.

Right?

Why do you want to make yourself feel bad?

Some people feel inspired by looking at them and they say,

Wow,

I'm looking at them and it's a motivation for me to lose weight,

To do whatever.

If that's your case,

Then leave them there.

OK?

There is no right or wrong here.

It's about reflection,

Self-reflection,

And really understanding what you need and how you function.

Or skinny clothes for when you lose weight.

OK.

Versatile clothing is great for people whose weight fluctuates.

Yeah,

Amazing.

So,

I want to share with you some visuals now.

What is this?

I guess you know what this is,

Right?

This is from my daughter.

So,

My daughter has a bedroom.

Her own bedroom.

OK?

But she doesn't have a very big closet.

But honestly,

Guys,

I was,

When she was born,

We were just flooded with things.

People were giving us bags,

Boxes with clothes.

I was very grateful,

But I am a professional organizer and I remember being overwhelmed.

I was in the living room.

My wife was dumping boxes on top of me.

I have photos of that.

And I was thinking,

Like,

I don't know what to do.

Colors,

Sizes,

Different shapes,

Pants,

Dresses,

T-shirts.

It's like,

I don't even know how to dress my daughter.

OK?

So,

For me and for my wife,

It was,

We cannot do this anymore.

This is too overwhelming.

This is just too much.

So,

We did the process.

How much space do we have in the closet for clothes?

How much space?

So,

That's how much space she had in the closet.

We just put this on the shelves and she has a hanging bar.

Guys,

On Friday,

I'm going to give a tour of my home in the live session.

So,

You will be able to see everything I'm talking about.

OK?

But,

Once she started,

She's now two and a half.

When she was like 18,

19 months,

She was curious about clothing.

She was curious about putting laundry away.

So,

We created a system for her to be able to participate.

So,

We created fan labels that she colored and she likes.

And then,

These are socks,

These are underwears,

These are shirts.

And then,

She has like probably 12.

We came up with that we need 10.

We do laundry,

10 shirts is enough.

We have around 12.

She doesn't wear them all,

But that's the amount of shirts that we have for her.

Same with pants.

OK?

So,

You can have the same idea for yourself.

You can have.

.

.

You can have bins like that.

You can use different sizes of bins depending on what you are trying to store.

Socks or underwear or shirts.

And you can fold them that way so that you can see them easily.

That's one way of doing it.

Some people hang everything.

OK?

Some people will hang everything because they enjoy hanging.

And they hang t-shirts,

They hang pants,

They hang dresses.

Everything is hanging.

And that's the way how they operate best.

Some people use shelves.

They love having things on shelves.

Some people use drawers.

I myself use a drawer right now and I'm going to show it to you.

It's my dresser drawer.

You must think I'm crazy,

But I just want you to see this.

OK?

So this is my dresser drawer.

OK?

So what do you see here?

I have rows.

So I open the drawer from here and I have underpants.

I have socks.

I have working t-shirts.

I have out of season socks.

Because in the winter I wear thick socks and in the summer I wear this kind of socks.

So I have space here to rotate the two kinds.

OK?

I have t-shirts that I wear casual with nice t-shirts.

And then in here,

Let me see if I can see you.

In here I have exercise stuff.

So I have shorts,

I have my bathing suit and I have shirts that I wear for the gym.

And in here I have extra socks that are white.

I have headbands for when I play squash.

And I have little towels to dry my sweat when I'm playing squash.

OK?

So this is pretty much all my clothes.

Then I do have one shelf.

I have one shelf in the closet that you will see on Friday.

One shelf where I have sweaters,

Long sleeve sweaters.

I have pants,

Working pants and I have dress pants.

OK?

And then I have a lot of shirts in there.

Like cargo pants,

I have three or four pairs of that.

And then I have a hanging bar where I have shirts,

I have sweaters that are with the zipper.

And then in the winter I have my jackets in there.

So the only thing that I rotate is I have a bin on top of my closet on a shelf that I built.

I have my winter coats,

My mittens,

Scarves,

Hats,

All that stuff that I only wear in the winter.

I don't keep it in my closet on a day to day in the summer because it's not necessary.

So I will put that in a bin and that will be my out of season clothing.

OK?

And then when the winter comes I will take that down and then I will put back summer stuff that I won't use in the winter.

And I will put it in that bin.

But it's just one bin and it fits in there.

If you have a really good big closet,

You can have all the four seasons.

If you have four seasons,

All there,

Right?

And you can have a section for winter,

Autumn,

Spring and summer if you want.

Or some people have a combination of.

.

.

They just have layers.

So they can wear the same things in the winter or in the summer.

The only thing that they do,

They add layers or remove layers.

That's another strategy.

Again,

You can do this.

Another thing that you can do is you can use these kind of solutions.

This one is from IKEA for example.

But this is kind of like a little pocket that fits in a drawer.

And you can use this for maybe socks.

You can use this for underwears.

You can use this for little towels.

And if you don't use it you can just store them like this.

This is another solution that you can use in your closet for shoes or for something else.

Optimize your vertical space.

Another thing that you can use is hooks,

Guys.

You can use.

We use this.

.

I use this every time I do a session with people.

Majority of the times I use something like this.

Sometimes I use this one that goes with two screws.

And it's like 1,

You know how much stuff you can fit in here?

It's amazing.

And normally this goes behind the doors.

Sometimes we put this inside the closet.

And sometimes we use this for like belts,

Bags.

For anything really.

And if you don't want to make holes,

You can use the ones that hook from the door.

So you could hook this in the back of the door.

Okay?

Something like this.

It hooks there.

And then all of a sudden you open up a lot of vertical space that otherwise you will not find.

These guys,

I buy them at the dollar store here.

It depends where you live.

Just have a peek of the different hardware stores that you may have accessible.

And then you may find different options,

But.

These are like.

Honestly,

The amount of versatility that you get for $3,

Sometimes we use nails.

Okay?

We just put nails where we need them.

And then all of a sudden you can hang bags from there.

You can hang belts.

You can hang stuff like that.

Sometimes we use hooks like these.

These ones are the ones that we normally use in garages,

When we are organizing garages.

But yeah,

Like.

.

Sometimes you can use like a strip of wood like this and then you can have different kinds of hooks that you can find at the dollar store or at the hardware store.

And then depending what you are using it for,

There are different kinds,

Different shapes.

There are broom clips for things with handles that allow you to hang things very easily.

And this is very,

Very practical,

Very inexpensive,

And very functional.

And for some people,

They may think,

Oh,

That looks really ugly.

Guys,

When you are organizing,

For me,

The first goal is functionality.

Second one is making it look good.

Okay?

Beautified.

That's fine.

But I prioritize functionality over visuals.

Because sometimes,

Visually speaking,

You cannot find what you need,

But you can make something that is going to be the perfect solution for your specific needs,

But maybe it's not as glamorous as the other one.

But if you get caught on the visual only,

But you don't think about the functionality,

Then you will not have an efficient system.

So make sure that whatever you get,

First,

Declare everything,

Not the volume of things that you need to store.

And once you know what you are storing,

If you require some extra solutions like this one,

That's when you can go out and buy them.

But don't buy anything yet,

Because the majority of the times when we are doing a session with a client,

First,

They have way less than they expected.

Second,

They have a lot of organizing solutions that they are not using,

So we shop from that pile.

And then third,

Oh,

My wife is here and she just got a haircut.

Someone was asking,

What is my wife?

What do you think?

I think it looks great.

I've got tons of stuff.

So she really wanted to shave her head and then she did that now her hair grows really slowly,

But she just went.

Don't shop before you declutter.

Yeah,

I'm trying to tell them that.

So don't go shopping before you declutter because the majority of the times,

You may try to find the perfect solution for your problems,

But the perfect solution for your problems,

Guys,

And I'm telling you this after doing over 300 sessions one-on-one in people's homes,

The most efficient way of organizing is decluttering.

Decluttering.

What does decluttering mean?

Assessing everything that you have really prioritizing the things that you want to keep questioning why you are keeping those things,

Thinking about the lifestyle that you want to have and then looking at your physical surroundings and creating a physical surrounding that facilitates that thing.

If you don't set a strong intention,

Okay,

An intention that is inspiring to you,

Motivating to you,

Align with your needs,

Align with what you want in life,

If you don't do that,

All the resistance is going to eat you alive.

All the emotions,

Sentiments of guilt,

Lack of time,

All that stuff is going to just take your time and your energy and you will not be able to move forward.

That's why you have to get strong,

You have to do your reps,

You have to really get clear on what you want and why,

And you have to put that in a place that you can see it,

And then you push through the actual physical decluttering with that intention.

So what else do I have here to show you?

Yeah,

For hooks,

There are also the individual versions that look like this.

Sometimes you just need one hook.

So you can find things like this very easily,

Pretty much in any hardware.

And they are very.

This one is like $2 and $3.

So very inexpensive solutions that you can use for those specific needs.

Sometimes it's like,

Oh,

I have a bag that I always like to have in the closet,

But I don't have a hook for it.

So that can be the solution for you to make your closet amazing.

When you are feeling overwhelmed,

Just think about it.

First,

Why are you feeling overwhelmed?

What's overwhelming you?

Shine the light on that.

And then,

You don't have to do it alone.

Sometimes,

How long have you been trying to do this by yourself?

Just think about it.

How much time have you been trying to do this by yourself?

How long?

It's been months,

It's been years,

It's been weeks.

How long?

It's been weeks.

How long?

And then,

How much is costing you this problem?

How much is this problem costing you in your life?

Because when you can put a price tag on something,

It's easy for you to really value the pain that you are suffering right now and get started making changes,

Right?

I still have no vision and no plans,

But holidays ahead,

And I hope to find some time there to find my vision,

And then I will start to declutter.

Run out of steam,

Leaving mess in room.

Yeah.

So for those of you,

If you are not able to block off enough time to do the whole thing all at once,

Don't just try to do the whole thing all at once.

You have to do it in stages.

But that's why I feel that use some of the methods that I share on how to get started,

Like making a little bit of progress slowly,

If you know.

But don't forget that you can get help,

You can get help.

And sometimes getting help is the answer that you need to make progress.

Like this person I shared the story,

She was struggling with this problem for over two years.

She tried several times,

And every day she was frustrated,

Every day she was overwhelmed,

Every day she was having a hard time.

We had a call,

She was open to new ideas.

We did that in a span of two weeks.

She was able to carve out a few hours here,

A few hours there,

And then she solved the problem that she was struggling with for two years because she had help,

She had guidance,

And she had motivation.

She had someone taking on her.

And then she moved forward through that.

And then it's slow,

Sometimes slow progress that is necessary to be able to accomplish the whole task.

That's why sometimes it's just helpful to just take one step at a time,

Just remember,

Guys,

Become aware of your specific situation,

Okay?

How much space you have,

How many clothes you are trying to fit in there,

Try to find the happy balance,

And then create that list of things that you really need.

How many do you need of each category of clothing that you are wearing,

And then how often do you want to do laundry?

And then with those factors in mind,

You can then come up with the list with confidence of how many things you want to keep of each kind.

Once you have that list of your top priorities,

Go to the pile and then select the ones that you love the most and put them back in the closet.

And all the rest,

If you don't have the time to sort through all of them,

Put them in a corner and then just get going through that pile slowly.

I think the priority should be that your closet is finished and functional.

If you can have a space,

A spare bedroom,

A corner,

Bins,

Boxes,

Temporary boxes to put all the other stuff in there,

Put it in there and then get going through that slowly after.

And if you can get help,

Then get help.

Get extra hands to help you.

Professional organizers in your area may be willing to help you in your home if that's what you need,

Or I can do a video call with you and I can help you with motivation,

With clarity,

With all the resistance that may show up for you,

With strategies and tips that you can try.

And the most important piece is the accountability and the motivation,

Having someone checking on you,

Having someone cheering you through the process.
