Hello everyone and welcome to this meditation.
The Ego,
Letting go of the parts which do not serve.
Ego is the identity of the individual self that one has.
From Carl Jung's perspective,
It is the centre of your awareness and the framework of your individual being.
Whatever comes to mind when you think of yourself is your Ego.
Your ideas about yourself,
Your beliefs,
Ideologies,
Social affiliations,
Desires,
Fears and much more constitute your Ego.
Personally,
I believe having a self-identity is important and there is such thing as a healthy Ego.
Others think that we should let go of the Ego altogether.
I'll leave that for you to decide.
This meditation is focused on letting go of the parts of the Ego that do not serve our highest self.
This could be letting go of our emotional attachment to certain beliefs,
Social identity,
Ideas or desires.
Being free from these shackles can help us be free from pain and suffering,
Helping us reach a higher level of consciousness.
Putting our Ego to one side can be crucial for our growth and learning.
As Confucius said,
The man who asks a question is a fool for a minute,
The man who does not ask is a fool for life.
We'll now do an exercise to let go of five parts of the Ego that do not serve us.
Number one,
Let go of the fear of others perception of us.
This is one of the most common fears.
As Osho once said,
The greatest fear in the world is the opinion of others and the moment you are unafraid of the crowd you are no longer a sheep,
You become a lion.
A great roar arises in your heart,
The roar of freedom.
So now do three deep breaths.
As you inhale,
Imagine a great freedom going into your body and as you exhale,
Let go of the fear of others perception of you.
Once you have done the three breaths,
Suit of your soul for a minute and think about ways in your life,
You give away your true self in fear of the perception of others and how disempowering this can be.
See if you feel lighted,
Or if you feel that you are not.
Number two,
Let go of resentment.
Forgive someone who wronged you.
Sometimes our ego hangs onto something someone did or said to us.
How dare they say that thing to me?
Whilst it's healthy to let them know it's not okay,
It's also important to forgive them and obtain the wisdom that we are all flawed and students of life.
As Gandhi said,
The weak can never forgive,
Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.
Again we'll do three breaths just to start.
On the inhale,
Breathe in forgiveness and exhale any resentment.
After three breaths,
Just sit with that for a minute and try and forgive someone who wronged you.
Try and find peace within forgiveness.
That's great.
Number three now,
Let go of any dishonesty to satisfy your own ego.
Sometimes we can be dishonest even with ourself to satisfy the ego.
This might feel good in the short term,
But in the long term the truth will catch up on us all.
So again we'll do three breaths.
Inhale honesty and exhale any need to satisfy the ego.
When you've done those three breaths,
Sit with yourself and be 100% honest in the area that before you may have been lying to yourself about.
Think really deeply about this one.
James BonIM TRAIN YELL Number 4 now.
Let go of the part of the ego that tells you that you have to be right.
Generally in human psychology we want to be right about everything.
To evolve requires a constant learning and unlearning process,
So it's important to be open to the fact that we now know might be wrong.
3 breaths,
This time inhale openness to new ideas and exhale the need to be right.
And now I'd like you to sit for a minute and try to let go of your need to be right.
Last one now,
Number 5.
Let go of always wanting more and more.
Our ego can sometimes become very greedy and want more and more and more.
This is why some people will always be miserable no matter how financially abundant they become.
It is never enough.
One way to combat this is through gratitude,
Being grateful for what we have right now.
So now I'd like you to inhale a gratitude for everything that you have and on the exhale release the constant need for more.
Two more breaths of those.
Now I'd like us to finish off by thinking of three things to be grateful for.
This is a practice I like to do every morning to start the day.
Number 1,
The first thing that pops into your head.
Just sit and be grateful for that first thing that pops into your head.
Number 2,
Sit in gratitude for someone in your life that you hold dear to you.
Number 3,
Sit in gratitude for something small to help us appreciate the little things in life.
Superb.
This is a great reminder that we have everything that we need right now and anything more is a bonus.
Thank you everyone for listening to this meditation.
Stay conscious of the ego throughout the coming days and weeks.
An over or under inflated ego can be detrimental to our wellbeing.
It's a fascinating area worth reading more about so I'd encourage you all to do that.
Try to stay centred,
Good people.
Big love to you all and peace out.
